    I use a solar wax melter that my hubby made. Black box, screen that filters the wax. Plexus across the top of the box. I melt the wax into a few inches of water in a pan below the screen. Wax can just be gathered from the top of the water

    My old kiln was 'cobbled up' out of a retail fridge unit thrown out of a local shop - perfect as it was well insulated and had a double glazed door. 3 filters, 1/8 inch wire cloth, very fine perforate zinc fly screen and finally a double layer fine cotton cloth. It worked very well. just keep adding any hive waste and let the sun and gravity do the work.

    I have seen videos that they used a solar cooker which is a foil lined box with a windowpane for the lid and the sun produces the heat to melt the wax. Pretty much on the same aspect that you are using only smaller. So, it should work like you want only may take longer as you said. Really enjoy your videos.

    I have a backyard greenhouse & do much the same thing. I cut a hole in the bottom of an old metal flower planter and put a screen across the hole. Then a 5 gallon bucket below. Once it's hot enough to melt it falls down and cools in the plastic bucket, which keeps it from overheating and turning brown. Hopefully your plastic tub will hold the heat without getting too hot.

    • @greg5105
      @greg5105 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHoneystead oh and I find it helps to put a piece of plexy glass over the planter, just so it holds the heat that much closer to the wax. Your kiln may not need it. I really like your idea of using the cheese cloth too, will have to try that next time

    In the uk we have just got a tv program on the Discovery channel called Bee Cezr or something like that and they have a same solar kiln which just holds their wax tote and they use it successfully to render their wax down and I think that it’s amazing to bee 🐝 able to use they natural products being the sun to melt the wax down so saving some fossil fuel even though it’s only a small amount of fossil fuel it’s the thought that it was made by nature in the last few years and rendered by today’s nature to give use a natural product that was naturally made and there’s not much made like that today. You show us so much that we take for granted so a big big thank you to you and your lovely mother.

    Depending on the sugar and oil content of your honeycomb, it should begin to soften and liquefy when your drying shed reaches 140°F - 150°F.

    Always heard the more propolis the bees have the healthier they are. I know it's gets messy in on the frames and really glues them down but i try to leave all i can in the box. Great video and nice way to melt wax .❤️🐝

    I once saw "MacGyver" bring his very expensive mountain bike into a bike shop in Brentwood to have a flat tire repaired......(for the uninitiated, any decent mountain biker in those days before tubeless tires - early 1990's) was fixing flats on a regular basis and it's easier to fix than the time it would take to go the the shop)

    Your local Metal Recycle Center will have a supply of old Ovens / Stoves coming in on a continuous bases... You can harvest the glass window from the oven door with very simple hand tools.... I used a tube of 100% silicone calk to seat the glass onto my melter box's door which i cut a large square hole in to allow the sun shine through and to do its work.
    Silk Screening companies have sheets of aluminum large enough to cover the lid of a hive,,
    once they finish a job, the sheets are set aside as used and recycled later.

    Completely off topic but I work maintenance at some apartments in hattiesburg ms.... We've got a hive of honey bees ina wall I've asked and asked people to come get them.... Would there be a way to bait them out or something? Owner and our renters want it gone but I have no one to get them so my option is poison.... I would definitely like to get them gone but not kill

    • @brigittemiller5073

      There probably is a way to get them with a colony cut out but it does not go with out saying that there can be significant cosmetic damage to the room or even the building in even doing a minor cut out….it does depend where the colony has settled in on and of course finding out where they are getting in. Most of the cutouts that we have done have at least needed drywall repaired or replaced and of course repainting.
