Please keep in Clair’s toasty remarks! We will LOOOVE them! Atticus is such a sweet boy, makes me miss my teenagers being babies… well little babies, they are big babies now 😂😂
On the topic about the special schools being "segregation", honestly I would've absolutely preferred if I went to a school that specialises in disabilities, actually had teachers that were trained in how to work with disabled kids. I'm autistic, even though I'm not as severe as some I was still diagnosed as level 2 autism (I don't know why it's in levels, it's so confusing. But apparently level 1 is very high functioning and level 3 is very low functioning). Unfortunately I wasn't diagnosed until later so I went to mainstream school and it was HELL. I was bullied for my differences, especially by other girls, physically bullied by a so-called friend, teachers didn't understand me, I dealt with selective mutism and extreme anxiety. Mainstream school made me very burnt out, I had autistic meltdowns often, and felt suicidal. I think segregation can be a good thing sometimes, especially when it comes to the vast array of disabilities - some being extreme and some not so extreme... But special Ed teachers are actually trained to work with us, unlike regular mainstream teachers. I pretty much failed school including my HSC because I didn't get proper help that I needed. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, I know not many people would want to read it hahaha. Thank you for always bringing a smile to my face, Isaac and Clare!! Please keep making jokes about autism, they're absolutely hilarious and it's nice to be included rather than the "woke" brigade saying "you shouldn't joke about autistic people".. I'm like "nah, please do!"
Yooo dude are you from the us or Australia? Here in the uk we have special needs schools for people who are disabled so they can be properly taken care of and not around kids who let’s be honest at that age are absolute pricks. We had a few people in my school who were disabled whether that’s physically or mentally and some definitely needed to go to special schools as like you said the school just didn’t have the proper trained staff to look after them. So I guess some just slip thru the system but I was just wondering from your comment whether schools like that exist where your from? Cos from your comment I’m Guessing no but I could be wrong so I just wanted some clarity. Also I 100% agree with what u said about him making jokes I’m trans and I love it when people make jokes about trans people that shit cracks me up 😂
@@OlegLegg oh yeah, I'm from Australia. There are special schools here, but unfortunately there wasn't much option in my small country town so I followed behind my older siblings and went to mainstream school. That and I was missed when it came to getting an early diagnosis, although my mother always knew something was "wrong" with me ever since I was born, but everyone just pushed it aside and just said that I'm "different". Very common for autistic females to be missed. I love that! People forget that jokes are jokes at the end of the day, they don't always represent the comedians true feelings about a topic!
I hear you there, I was much the same, diagnosed eventually as Asperger’s even though they seemed (to my childs understanding) to keep changing the terms and explanations… It’s why I ended up in a special distance education program run by a country Victoria high school. They had specialist teachers and MUCH smaller class sizes, where we’d go for classes one day per week, at most 10 students in the group allowing for much better student/teacher interaction and support, we’d get the same amount of class work assigned as homework as regular school curriculum students got, we were then trusted to set our own schedules and complete the work at home over the course of the week As such if we could only focus on for 20-30 mins before taking a quick break - so be it. If some just flew through it in a day, they then had a whole week to relax and recreate. It was a good midway ground for those kids who “fell through the cracks” It was called A.Y.C.E. (Access yea community education), and was run by the yea high school in “central” Victoria
New Zealand stopped all the "segregation" of "special" kids. Our son had a "special" kid in his class for 6 years. Nothing but constant disruptions. The kid would tantrum, scream, break things, constantly wandering and yelling. He wasn't even doing any of the work set out for the rest of the class. Having their own classroom or school would benefit everyone.
When I was younger there was a boy in my grade and girl one grade up... I had classes with both of them a few times, sometimes both of them the same year (split class grade 4/5 and 7/8) They did some of the same work but had a teacher in the room for them specifically and she also would take them out of class to do their own work at times.. They weren't disruptive though. They were fun and it helped teach us empathy and such. Inviting them to play and being patient.. We were truly friends with them. They were typically quiet though.. Did the child in your son's class have a teacher in the class specifically for him? They definitely need one... And depending on the child I agree that they should be in their own class or school not just because of the other kids but for themselves also... It's better to have an educator that specializes in w.e. they have or need. Even when I worked in childcare... If a child had autism or w.e.... there would be another educator in the room that is specifically for that child.
1:18 my little girl always runs into my kitchen when I have your content on the speaker when I’m cleaning and shouts “mummy is the baby on your phone can I see him!” She loves watching what he does when ur doing ur podcasts! 😂😂
I teach in a special school. It’s very hard to qualify to attend a special school, you must have an intellectual impairment and the kids who go there are in the best place for them. It would be unsafe and unfair to close special schools, it won’t happen. Most people have never set foot in a special school, those who have know how vital they are. I wish that the general public would educate themselves, glad your show teaches as well as entertains
With the slowly declining standards in the general education systems in most western countries the past 15-20 years or so…especially in current day America…be hard to tell the difference anyway Sorry, but had to make the obvious joke to try and deflect some of the tension from the seriousness of the entire issue. I myself in hindsight feel I would have benefited more from being involved in such a school, as I was considered a high achiever until grade 5/6, at which point I began to fall almost everywhere, and it was later suggested to my parents to look into secondary schooling that had teachers more suited to helping students with autism traits, (after first ADD then ADHD, was eventually settled as being Asperger’s syndrome)
Special need schools are needed. They give care and help children in all areas at a more personal level. This will also impact on the learning capability of other students if they try to dissolve these awesome schools who do a lot of good work. No to changing Australia day date.
My youngest is finally FINALLY in a special needs home school cottage with 9 other special needs kids. They each have their strengths and for the first time in Alex's 13 years of life, he's top of the class by a wide WIDE margin in maths and the self esteem boost has been phenomenal. Australia can't scrap special needs schools. It's short sighted, narrow minded and selfish all in the name of the current trend of over virtue signaling. It's wrong.
The western school education system has been declining in quality anyway the past 20 years or so…it’s gotten to a point in America at least where you wouldn’t notice any difference really…sigh
Claire, you are f@&kin Hilarious 😂, You " QUACK" me up !, you remind me of my childhood growing up in Logan ( that is NOT a bad thing, depending which side of the railway you lived, lol ), your just very down to earth & beautiful soul as is your family. ❤️ I love your show ❤️ You Guys Rock 😎!
I've worked in a classroom with intellectually moderate to severely disabled children. There were only 8 children in the class but most were non-verbal and the children who did talk had the vocabulary of a toddler. The most advanced child in the class was doing preschool level literacy (he was 10 years old at the time). The children were unable to control their emotions. When things went wrong they would jump on tables, bite their peers and teachers (one time a child launched himself at me, luckily he was only 8 so I was able to quickly put my hand on his forehead to keep myself safe from his bites until a colleague helped me, another time my coworker wasn't as fast and he had to take some time off after the child broke his skin). I've seen an 11 year old who couldn't be around objects that were small enough to put in her mouth as she would do so much like a baby would - big chocking risk. Another time when something went wrong one of the non verbal children had a tantrum in which she removed all of her clothing front of everyone right there in the classroom. By all means bring the children with physical - or even mild intellectual disabilities into the classroom there are advantages here, but unfortunately for the children with severe intellectual disabilities (i.e the 14 year old girl wearing a bib I once saw playing with a toy very similar to what Atticus had in this video) just cannot be put into mainstream schooling.
Ah Atticus is so beautiful and CHUBBY 😍 it brings back SO SOOOOOOOOO many memories of my 2 boys. They're 14 and 13 now. It's so strange, the time went by SO fast but it's a lifetime ago. ❤❤❤
30:55 beg to differ…a “flat white” means they try to minimise the amount of milk froth when adding the milk to the coffee. A “flat white” is what used to simply be referred to as a “white coffee”, back when making coffee was as simple as popping on the kettle, putting a spoon or two of brown powder into a mug, maybe a spoon of white powder, pouring in the hot water, then pouring in a preferred amount of cold milk from the bottle in the fridge Key word - “flat”…as in WITHOUT the froth. Latte is where the froth is left to mix with the milk and poured into the coffee making the entire thing have a creamier texture, Cappuccino is where they minimise the froth whilst pouring in the hot milk, then a layer of just froth over the top, upon which the coffee powder is sprinkled Experience - was a bartender at a pokies venue, and they had a barista come in to teach the bar staff how to make the “proper coffee” machine. Summary - a “flat white” is simply a “white coffee with little/no frothy stuff…

I sympathise with the autistic kid not liking the bell. I don't like the Village Roadshow theme. I get scared because of how it comes up and the sound. With Australia Day, if we want, let’s change the meaning of it slightly, like the 26th is a significant day signifying the start of Modern Australia and the ensuing ~175 years of Aboriginal oppression if I remember correctly, like have a moment in the day to recognise the past while still enjoying a public holiday (kind of like ANZAC day were we recognise the loss of thousands of Australians) and if we want a more positive Australia Day, add a new one (maybe August/September/October because that’s the best weather imo and we don’t have any national public holidays at that time) so we get 2 public holidays out of it, who doesn’t love public holidays. But, I don’t know, I’m not a politician or Aboriginal person, I’m just a random white guy. Also, the proposal to stop ‘segregation’ is stupid imo. Anyway, love this podcast of shit talk, thanks Clare and Isaac for making my day every week. (Also appreciate the longer episode)

I cant. You guys are cute.
Clare,
You operate a home-based small business with your husband and a select set of employees.

Weirdest Ninja: Creamy commercial I’ve ever seen.
Society Of The Snow is a new movie, it is dubbed but it would have to be one of the better dubbed movies, Spanish translates much better.

As long as Australia is in the Commonwealth, then Australia will be still apart ov the monarc, and unt till a treaty has been made with traditional owners, wich Australia is the only country in the world that hasn't don't this, then we can become a republic

Godzilla minus 1 was the best film of the year when it came out and was universally loved and that had subtitles sometimes buts you can be a total twat waffle.
