WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been freed from Belmarsh Prison in London, where he has been incarcerated for the past five years, after accepting a plea deal with U.S. prosecutors. After a decade-plus of legal challenges, Assange will plead guilty to a single felony count of illegally obtaining and disclosing national security material for publishing classified documents detailing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan on WikiLeaks. The Australian publisher is expected to be sentenced to time served and allowed to return home, where he reportedly will seek a pardon. Assange’s brother Gabriel Shipton describes learning of his release as “an amazing moment.” He speaks to Democracy Now! about Assange’s case and what led up to the latest developments, as well as what he expects will happen next.

I believe the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's last talks with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken a couple of weeks ago, where he openly stated problems with human rights in the United States and demanded the release of all illegally detained, as well as interview with the BBC significantly influenced the resolution to free Julian Assange. In this dialogue, he forthrightly addressed the political underpinnings of Assange's detention and vehemently lambasted the double standards and hypocrisy of so-called Western democracies. He denounced their ostensible advocacy for freedom and human rights abroad while perpetrating acts of terror upon their citizens through police violence, unlawful detentions, coerced alterations in sexual orientation among youths, and burdening their populace with lifelong debt.

That quote is taken out of context, and, on its own, it is, ABSOLUTELY, a short-sighted falsehood. There are ABSOLUTELY Russians who are threats to Americans, just as there are ABSOLUTELY Americans who are threats to Russians. The main threats to world-peace, and to ALL decent working-class humans, are as follows:
(1)The corrupt wealthy-class knaves and their corrupt RW-politics
      AND
(2)the indecent working-class dupes who support the corrupt wealthy-class knaves and their corrupt RW-politics.
The corrupt & indecent Russians who are threats to decent Americans are the same as the corrupt & indecent Americans who are threats to decent Russians.
And the sooner that decent working-class people realize that, the sooner and better-equipped they'll be to repel (1)the corrupt wealthy-class knaves and their corrupt RW-politics, and (2)the indecent working-class dupes who support the corrupt wealthy-class knaves and their corrupt RW-politics.
I don't believe that Julian would disagree with anything I've presented(especially since I've heard him say similar things)..
      Now, moving on...
As far as Julian's caging/freedom is concerned:
This whole ordeal is just another win for the corrupt wealthy-class & their corrupt RW-politics.
Sure, Julian is no longer in a cage, but he will never truly be free again.
He'll be watched, monitored, stalked, and intimidated for the rest of his life.
His life & family have been ruined, all because he exposed (1)the corrupt wealthy-class & their corrupt RW-politics, and (2)the indecent working-class dupes who support the corrupt wealthy-class knaves and their corrupt RW-politics.
And, on top of doing the good-work of exposing that corruption & indecency, Julian is now being FORCED to admit that he was WRONG for doing that good-work.
This forced-admission is ABSOLUTELY a win for the corrupt & indecent humans who committed the corruption & indecency to begin with.
So, just because Julian has been "freed" from the cages that are owned & controlled by the corrupt wealthy-class & their corrupt RW-politics, that doesn't mean he's truly free, and it doesn't equate to a win for the decent working-class people of the world.
On the contrary, this whole ordeal has been a loss for decent working-class humans.
      ✌🤟✊🙏

You are correct. Telling the truth isn't a crime. Yet, here we are ... Julian Assange had to plead guilty to "espionage," which is absurd, to attain his freedom after more than a decade of torment. I love that Assange is getting freed. But I hate that so many are pretending his conviction is some kind of gesture of justice. It isn't. Charges never should have been filed. Charges absolutely should have been dropped. At the very least, he should have been pardoned. But millions of Americans are celebrating the conviction of this brave truth-teller. It is a bizarre and ironic turn of events.

Huge answer to persistent prayer.🙏 Praying now for Julian and Stella Assange and family- for their adjustment, reunited after a battle of many years. Have considerable respect for Gabriel Shipton- thank you for interviewing him. He seems a most dignified man, well aware of all the factors involved and grateful for each help along the way. There are other worthy cases needing attention in this world where collateral damage is far too normative - it's acceptance further corrupts each one of us. There are no purely political solutions - truth, love and freedom come at a cost. May there be a well protected period of quiet for the Assange family to recover in, may that be respected. 🙏Thank you for your program.💐

So happy that Assange will be freed. But let's not pretend that "free speech and justice has prevailed." Assange had to accept a conviction for espionage, which is ludicrous, in order to get his freedom. That is disgusting. And it leaves the door open in the future for truth tellers to be crushed by the so-called "justice system."

    • @mcallistersurprise5917
      @mcallistersurprise5917 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

you think the Azerbaijani President is the catalyst of this whole thing?
I thought it might have been the klIIing of Alexi Navalny in Russia ... What better time to pardon a political prisoner, when your enemy just proved that they cannot?
how can people like Tim Dillon make that comparison now?

The acquisition of a plea bargain for a conviction of espionage is, in this case, a travesty of justice. I fervently hope that a pardon will be granted in order to avoid having the government use the conviction against him; which I’m confident it would do if it could find a way. Sending blessings to him and his family. 🙏🏽

Let the man rest.. let him have peace. he is guilty of nothing - except agreeing to charges so that he can be free at last and live out his last days.
