    Today it is illegal to trap with fottrap in my nation, but when my grandparents did, he boiled the traps in water with juniper and only handled them with gloves he had hanging in the barn with the animals. If he was careless a lot of the illusive animals would not be trapped.

      I haven't managed to catch a dog on either yet but it's a bit early to make a judgement yet. I think they will work better at certain times of the year too. They seem to go off scent lures from time to time and then food lures work better. haha they like to keep you guessing.

    When using trail cams it's worth understanding the interval between photos/videos can have a lot going on that might be missed. Having a 10 sec timelapse set up on the same site showed twice m as many deer using the site as the trail cam did, and several events were totally missed. Tech is really valuable, it also usually has limitations the salesmen & Very Knowledgeable hunter types somehow overlook. Having cameras on traps provides an insight what actually happens (particularly on video). A capture will fill a card up overnight if energetic.
    Video mode reveals behaviour better if that is useful, there may be a compromise with capacity & battery life.

    • @gunfisher4661
      @gunfisher4661 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the video mode as on mine has exceptional audio recording and lets me in on the world of animal sounds.

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i like these cameras as i can have it on video mode and not worry about chewing AA batteries. I haven't had the built in batteries drop yet that I've seen. Will have to try time laps sometime. Never thought of that. Wouldn't be much good on a track where they're just walking past but might be good on a carcass pile. 👍

    • @johnmead8437
      @johnmead8437 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@intothenight1993 No idea how timelapse is like on trail cams, Plotwatcher used to make a specific one, they're now defunct. About 1Gb a day, 10 sec intervals, a month to a card, daylight only. 10 minutes standard speed/day checking "movie", could speed it up, but might miss a fast one. Was good, & as didn't need movement to set off had a much wider active field. Don't need it on a carcass, along their tracks would be ideal, think having a movie running all day & what you will see.
      Is the rifle sighted in before the sneaky trophy dog gets missed....

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha yep I updated the thermal scope which fixed some video recording issues and I re-sighted it in. it was shooting about 3inches to the left at 50m for some reason so no wonder I missed the fox... all good now though.

    do you reckon the wts lures work well and which one do you reckon works best?

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't really say yet as i haven't had much time to use them. I tried them on my dog first by putting a bit in a few spots as if i had traps set and then let him off and they worked a treat with him but i haven't managed to catch anything in a trap with it yet. Sometimes scent lures don't work if they are more interested in food so then a food lure is better. And that's what I've found here lately. Other times it's the other way round so you just have to try different things and see what works. Those two i got from WTS are just two that they recommended that are very popular so i thought I'd try them. So time will tell. Sorry i can't give you a proper answer yet. 👍

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes. I made a boo boo and got a copyright claim on the last one 🥴
      I usually try and post one video per week but sometimes i get busy and don't get time but thats life.
      The camera has a built in lithium battery which charges from the solar panel but has 4AA batteries just for back up. But it has taken a lot of videos and pictures now and the battery is still saying full so the solar panel must be working well. I paid about $140AUD for these off ebay. They call them a Campark camera but mine are copies i think. One down side to them is they don't have the black flash and if the dogs see the lights start up then they take off.

    With the explosion of ferral numbers and the pending introduction of the government funded local eradication program requiring hunters to be checked and registered, the addition of an infrared loan scope program could significantly improve kill numbers. Every single, pig, dog, fox and cat will significantly improve the survival of our precious native species.
