    Rebuilding my old .15 tmaxx now. Haven't ran it in 15 years. Bought it back in 1999. You shoulda seen the look on the peoples faces when I brought it to the same hobby store I bought it at 22 years ago. Total blast from the past.

    Great job! Just bought a used T-maxx and am in the process of rebuilding... I'm a pure amateur at this stuff these videos are THE best I have found on the interwebs - you are extremely thorough which helps a ton! thanks!

    Hey thanks for the breakdown. Thought I was going to have to take it to my local hobby shop. They can’t touch it for two months. Seeing this I’ll gladly tackle getting my old t max x back up and running.

    I have a truck for many years. I honestly don't think it has 10 hours of play time on it. I had children and I put it away. He it is 16 or so years later well I think I would change over to all electric. I think that the electric car etc have come a long way. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

      Electric tech has most definitely come a very long way in 16 years. From NiCd to NiMh to now having high capacity LiPo batteries, and from brushed to brushless motors, it is a whole new world out there.

  • @kasnitch
    @kasnitch 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job again Tony. It lives again.... soon. The truck look likes it's chomping at the bit to get outside at the end lol. Is that a trim adjust you need to do?

    Love your motor rebuild. I was just given a t-maxx 2.5 r without a remote control from my brother-n-law. I plan to rebuild the motor using this video. Do you have any ideas about how to obtain a new remote control. Thanks

    Thanks for these well documented videos on the T-Maxx! What year is ir? Any good resources on it or a link to the original manual online somewhere? I got a box of old truck gear given to me from a friend including this exact t-maxx but he didn't have much info on it. He was trying to convert it to brushless after he bought it but then gave up, now I'm looking to rebuild it since the original parts are in great shape, just totally disassembled.

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the manual and I can only find diagrams online. If you can, come over to www.Rc-Help.com and post a thread and I will try and help you out in any way I can. Rebuilding these is fun, but can also be stressful. Be sure to post some pictures of what you have now so we can get an idea of where you are in the build. Hope to see you there soon.

    Emery cloth is a little excessive on the crank! Use a scotch bright pad at the most. Now your engine will leak oil even worse then before. Even with a new bearing. Might take a bit but it will leak!

    Congrats man, nice work there, that motor sound like it's brand new :D

  • @robertgisthebest
    @robertgisthebest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just switched my EZ start for a pullstart. For some reason the battery would die within seconds and it would only crank the engine over slowly.
    I might buy a new motor one day and see if that solves the problem.

    • @robertgisthebest
      @robertgisthebest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated.
      I did buy a new battery for the wand and also replaced the wiring loom, but it didn't seem to make much difference, although I don't have a way to verify that the charger I'm using is actually charging the battery, so went the pullstart route as it was cheaper than going through the elimination process.
      Eventually I will buy a decent battery charger, switch out the motor and as a last resort I'll replace the wand.
      Cool site, I'll keep an eye out for that article regarding the T-Maxx starter.

      If an engine sits around for a long time, it will seem to lock up. It's just the oil getting very thick. Use some WD40 down the carb and down the glow plug hole and work the engine for a while. You can use the electric start to do this if you want as long as you can spin the engine over by hand. The WD will help to loosen the oil up. And also, Traxxas says to use WD after running it as well. Better than after run oil, and will not cause a lock up issue. Hope this helps.

    I prefer to soak and clean the parts in ether. It lifts oil and dries immediately. I find WD-40, even the WD-40 white grease attracts a lot of dust.
    Awesome video though. I learned a lot. Thanks.

    the brass piece inside if the needle snapped, and i bought a new tmaxx 2.5 on ebay, it is very nice, only ran a half gallon of fuel through it but i was going to put the batteries in the battery box, and the pack where you clip the batteries in, and the pack is gone, i was hoping you could make a video of how to change the packs between trucks, i was going to take the one off my other truck but i dont know how, if you could make a tutorial, that would be great thanks again, bigmom lol (im a guy)

  • @TraxxasGemini3.3
    @TraxxasGemini3.3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also another cleaner u can use that works very well.. if u have any old or contaminated nitro/glow fuel it'll work fine and removes paint too (higher nitro contents work better than lower ones.. old 20% nitro is fine, 30 is even better!)... but for after run maintenance DO NOT use WD-40 (it may work ok for short term but long term it's terrible.. WD-40 has kerosene in it and will evaporate too.. ALWAYS use after run oil and I hear also a 50/50 mixture of Automatic Trans Fluid and Marvel Mystery Oil works as an after run oil which I never tried but heard Adam Drake does with good success.. personally I use actual after run oil.. shame Prather after run oil isn't made anymore, wonderful stuff!)

    • @RcHelpDotCom
      @RcHelpDotCom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I always try to use actual after run oil when I can. Back when I made this video, these engines never sat long enough to have any harm from WD-40, but yes, for anything over about a week, definitely use the real thing. Thanks for the comment Aaron! www.Rc-Help.com

    hey, i fixed to the new truck, me and my buddy who knows more than me at this, worked on it, and we got it working. i stripped the wires down on the headlight power wire, and the receiver wire, we didnt know which was which, and he gave me a pack from another buggy so we power tested, and found it. anyways, its fixed and im going to use the old truck for parts, it turns out it was a .15, not a 2.5, mistake! but i havnt ran it yet, and it was my birthday yesterday so im eatin my cheesecake, Thnx!
