Thank you so very much for your channel. You taught me how to loom knit❤️ I have a brain injury & you are so patient💕 another thing you taught me was to “WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEO” before starting a project!! Gracias Denise ❤️
Josie - I’m ADD so I say that because, girlfriend I need to do just that or I’m lost 😆. I’m super super happy that my videos are helpful. Besos Hermana 🥰
I just wanted to add my deep appreciation for all the effort and time you have put into these awesome videos! I am also new to loom knitting and have a little bit of ADD stuff, but with your way of teaching, I am FINALLY knitting my second little hat!!! I have tried other videos but yours is the most concise and easy to understand, that is for me. Thank you for all you do for us out here in loomy land!! HUGS, Vikki
I love the appearance of the seed stitch and have made baby hats with this stitch but with a different technique. Your technique makes this hat even more adorable! I have never seen that cast off before...wish me luck. Cutest hat on the planet! Babies from all over thank you for posting this video.🍼
loom knitter here, thank you so much for this, i've recently joined a group where they are dong hats for new born babies and this is perfect. Thank you so much.
I don’t comment enough on your wonderful videos, but I watch every one! You are a great instructor, and your calm manner of teaching makes it so easy to learn the techniques. Thank you!
I started this where I did my own thing and started the hat the usual way and then did garter stitch for a few rows and then added what you did with seed stitch lol and learned a lot from that as I was taking apart the hat because I couldn’t close the hat the way you were lol. I wasn’t really trying to not follow what you were doing, I just wanted the seed stitch on the top part of the hat and was using this video to do it. So now I am following this video from beginning to end. 👍🏽
Hi-I love your understandable and I able to follow along and loom knit with you! Thank you. I made this by mistake on a 31 peg loom instead of the 24 peg loom. Would this now fit a toddler head? Please tell me how many total rows to do. The 24 loom is a total of 28 rows but not sure how many rows to do for the 31 peg loom since it is bigger. I will wait for your answer. Thank you. I have made many projects looming with you!
Hi there. Thank YOU for your kind words. I have not tested this project on a 31 peg loom so I wouldn't be able to tell you the row count. I would start with a least an additional 5 rows and see how that works out. Hope that helps some.
I do so enjoy your videos, Denise. You are precise in your instructions and you have such a soothing, calming voice that is a joy to listen to! Love this adorable little hat -- the crown is just beautiful!! I really love your "hand made" tag as well, it makes the finished hat look very upscale. Did you make that yourself?
Denise, you are such an inspiration to me; I am currently making comfort dolls in order to donate to a women and children’s shelter here in Houston. I have also made dozens of red hats for the American Heart Association’s Red Hat campaign for babies. This gives me another great pattern for more hats. I do have an off topic question, where do you get your stitch marker charms? Thanks again for all you do, you have been a blessing to me that allows me to bless others. God bless!!
Thank you for this. I never learned to knit so decided to try loom knitting. Have finished a few basic hats for practice but needed to find a cute pattern for a baby hat and a blanket. Will be using this pattern for the hat. Now to search out a cute but simple stitch for the blanket.
To Denise or anyone else who's followed this pattern already, I'm using the next loom size up (31 pegs) having followed the sizing advice on one of Denise's other videos. I hope its going to work out as the loom Denise used in this video was an even 24 pegs. Should I complete more than 29 rows using this larger loom, or stick to 29? I'm making this hat for a 4-6 month old (my new nephew who won't need a hat straight away as he's due this June). Thanks in advance. I so love this channel. I've learnt so much!!! Peace & love, Samm in Somerset, UK 🇬🇧
I used the 31 peg today and did about 50 rows for a 4 month old baby. I figure if it ends up being a little long it can always be folded up but it looks like it's going to be perfect. The # of rows likely depends on the thickness of the yarn too.
Thank you very much for the amazing video and your explanation :) I would like to do a Loom Knit baby Hat, but I´m new in this world :). So I have some questions... Can you tell me which weight and type of yarn (wool/cotton, acrylic) I should use? Thanks Letícia
When knitting this hat, when you finish row 1 and start row 2. The last peg of row one and the first peg of row 2, will have the same stitch. Is this correct?
Hello from Albuquerque NM🙋♀️ Thank you for your videos, most of my friends crochet & I just can't get it lol. Someone told me about looming!!! OMG I love it & thx again my 1st project was learned from your video👍 God bless you 👍
Thank YOU Josie for this SUPER sweet comment - I'm soooooo happy I was able to teach you something and that you took from your precious time to leave me this message.
hi, it could be that you may need to stretch your yarn, I think Denise mentions it in the video. Also, we all knit differently so it may be as I have found that mine is different than Loomahat. Lastly if you go on loomahat.com under the Hats title and you scroll down, there is a chart that gives average sizes etc. for example it states : Preemie average head circumference 12 in or 30 cm 4-5 inches long. Newborn: average head circumference14 in or 36 cm. etc., etc., hope this helps. Don't give up. I am fairly new myself, only a year in this hobby. Keep on looming!!!
Twice I tried this hat. Once I finished and took it off the loom, I attempted to pull the draw string cast on to tighten and close the crown, twice the yarn broke. Using a Bernat baby velvet size 4 (medium).
Hi Nate, it’s hard to say what is the exact issue because I’ve never used that yarn plus (in general) I don’t use baby yarn. Another thing to consider is that you may have a batch of yarn that is either old or too fragile for some projects. Wish I could be more helpful.
Hi Mia - you can just take a crochet hook or a needle to "weave in" the strand of yarn - watch this video and you will see what I mean at the end th-cam.com/video/9P1UNsftBA0/w-d-xo.html
I’m a beginner-beginner and would like to try “looming” baby hats to gift our local hospital for their newborn ward. What yarn and weight do you recommend for a baby hat? Thank you for facilitating this step-by-step video. Your suggestions are welcome. Thank you!
Sonia I use worsted weight - don't use baby yarn - it will be too thin for this loom. Also, here is an easier version of a newborn baby hat th-cam.com/video/WaU8fy_IdoY/w-d-xo.html
@@LoomaHat OMG......thank you so very much Denise. The “easier version is more up to my speed”. The hospital where I volunteer just opened a maternity department and “we, the volunteers” volunteered knitted newborn hats to welcome babies. Thanks for your many tips!
Thank you for this excellent video! It was very well done, and easy for a beginner like myself to follow. I was wondering what weight yarn you used to make this hat? In your past videos, you use 2 strands quite often, but in this video it looks like you are using only one. For the seed stitch, should one strand only be used?
I don't like to use 2 strands for babies - sometimes I only use one if I'm trying to get more stretch and a soft feel. I have to test a stitch before I can decide to use just one strand. So it depends on the stitch and the project.
Everything worked fine with the hat until the end. I did the cast off and it worked but then my cast on didn’t allow me to pull the hat closed. I’m very disappointed I spent a long time working on this and had to throw it away because the hat didn’t close.
Hi Denise! Me Again 😂...I'm going through my looms...and wondered if you thought that a 12 peg loom would be.good for a premie beanie? Thank you for all of your looming help ❤👣❤
Am I missing something regarding the cast off? I was following just fine until you skipped to the last stitches. Please show the cast off from beginning to end. I've watched your video numerous times and can't figure this out. I have the exact same loom.
I think the tube sock video goes a bit slower for the cast-on. Just keep in mind that you're starting with the yarn between pegs 1 and 24 then you're zig-zaging the WY through every other peg. When you're done with the part - you know that it's correct because there is yarn on every other peg - then just wrap the loom with the WY ( lay the yarn flat over all the pegs) but you only knit off the pegs that have 2 loops. The other pegs you will knit once you've gone around the whole loom. Then knit every peg. Here is the video th-cam.com/video/i9SAgT-l29k/w-d-xo.html
I realize this was a bit ago, i had to start over too. Here’s what I think may have happened. It’s a “drawstring cast on” so when u are at the end of row 13, and u proceed to the finish portion and casting off. That is the finished edge. The beginning of the project where u casted on the drawstring is where the hat closes. When u unknot the knob on the loom that is where u pull to cinch close. Which is the opposite to how hats are closed (typically). Sorry so late lol hopefully someone finds this useful. The other video she points to shows an image at the end which illustrates this.

This is for a very small babies head or a preemie. I sent one to my cousin who has a new born. She said it "just fit". That tells me that it should have been slightly bigger. The baby was a week old. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to make it on the loom that is one size larger??
Loom was Loops & Threads Knit Quick. The thread I'm not sure... I remember it being a soft, light weight I'm pretty sure I bought it at Micheals also. It was a lovely hat though. I'm thinking of making another one for a friend that is having a baby in the spring.
Made this and it only fits in one fist. It won’t be big enough to fit my cousin’s upcoming baby cuz he’ll be big. But I enjoyed making this and I’m think about donating it to the local hospital
Hi Tara - the hat is for a newborn and it is a rib style stitch so keep in mind that it stretches. Also adding length will not make the hat larger if the hat is for say a 1-3 month old you would need to use the big loom. .. Hope that helps 🙂
@@LoomaHat I totally understand-it’s not the circumference that was the issue for me but it was simply not long enough for the newborn size I was looking for, even with the stretching. But I definitely appreciate your videos-always well put together.
Well this one didn't turn out for me at all. Maybe because I used #5 yarn instead of #4? Way too tiny. Might fit an extremely small preemie. Also, drawstring cast on would not close all the way, a good .5" still open in the top for some reason. I usually LOVE all your videos but this one was a bust for me. Darn.
I’ve made many great hats watching your tutorials however this cast off method ruined my entire hat. Directions were NOT clear. Once my hat was off the loom as I thought I had done correctly I could not even pull it closed. Ruined!
