You said its 2023 but realize this remaster is not from 2023 its a remaster from 2019. It looks ok definitely that PS4 Xbox One half ass remaster era. Not like the remakes and reimaginings of today
Things like textures and lightning are often designed in tandem. Upscaling textures or adding support for higher resolutions shouldn't really cause problems, but changing the lighting system or adding new forms of lighting will seriously fuck with a game's visual design. Either the people handling the remaster didn't know what they were doing or weren't given enough time to make the new lighting work.
I think the moment at 3:43 about sums this remaster up for me. I went back to look at the old one and, while it is rough as heck looking after almost a decade (especially on a 4k television), you can actually SEE the cityscape from a sync point. The remastered is covered in an endless Morrowind fog that obfuscates everything in the distance. It's awful. I appreciate the convenience of life updates, but I can't believe this passed quality control. It's depressingly sloppy. The remastered edition will be the one in all anthologies in the future. People twenty years from now won't see the city stretching off into the distance, tree lines in the horizon. No, they'll see an endless fog hiding any buildings more than a hundred yards out. BLEH! If they couldn't support high resolution textures while maintaining a solid 30 FPS, then they shouldn't have added them. They should have just stuck in the PC version's best texture pack, updated the lighting, improved the draw distance for foliage, and called it a day graphics-wise. A shame.
It's not the weather system. Every single sync point I've done in this game, city or frontier, has been so "foggy" that I couldn't see the horizon or the surrounding buildings. It's absolutely awful.
The character models look worse but I don't think they downgraded anything They just reduced the ambient occlusion that hides some of the models' lack of detail
The character models look far worse, the water is noticeably far worse, the shadows and lighting are worse (excessive bloom), the colors are overly saturated. They took a perfect game and made a pointless remaster that has objectively worse graphics, and now that's the only version Ubisoft sells. Brilliant.
@@UnchainedEruption the shadows definitely look better, and the bloom does make surfaces look like they're actually lit by the bright sunlight. Both make for a more believable daylight environment. And the lightning and colors, while not to everyone's liking, resembles that in Assassin's Creed Syndicate and I think that's fine. It does lack the cold color temperature that it needed to fit the story which is a bummer, but that's less of a technical side of thing. Really the biggest effort they needed to put in but they didn't, is remastering the character's skin texture and maybe even remaking the character face models.
I have to say, i totally agree with the majority of the comments here.Who thought that blurring out textures and turning up brightness would be worth another 40 bucks? Answer: Ubisoft. Game itself is one of my favourites in the AC series though.
This may not be the best AC in peoples eyes but it is my favorite. As someone who is half Native himself it is good to see someone like me and someone I can kinda relate to in a game! That's why it is my favorite! ♥

0:10 and 0:16 this "remaster" ultimately removed the fine details and made haytham (and benjamin franklin) look 10 years younger. removing the "stress" from his face, which is an important detail from a detail-narrative perspective. the "remaster" essentially smoothened out the fine details, making them look like more like action figures or wax figures the water also took such a massive hit. it's insane how it's such a drastic downgrade. another thing is the lighting. look at 0:32 okay, sure, maybe the remaster has more "realistic" lighting, in the sense that light gradually fades as you enter the cave... BUT the original had much more "drama" and visual storytelling because the light transition IS scripted and was done from an artistic and storytelling point of view. see, this is why artistic interpretation should be given equal or more importance than technical specifications. technology SHOULD be used as a tool to tell your story and experience.
i remember loving the original one on my xbox360. i didnt even now theyre remastering it untill it appeared in my steam library (because of odessy delux edition) and i was extremely exited. now it isnt a big remastered like i expected but running around truly was fun and still is i the new one. even more fun because of 60fps.
I think lower contrast or brightness for the texture details of skins to be dark and clear instead of being blurred out by to much white thats hiding skin texture details!
Thanks for saving me some money. I just saw that the remaster is on sale so I was considering it but I remembered AC3 to already be graphically well ahead of it’s time. No reason to dish out more money for such an insignificant graphical enhancement.
It's the lighting. They layered or enhanced the lighting effect. Darker environments pop with more detail and color. However, the character models are blasted by this light's bringing out all their imperfections
original looks better the lighter remastered version takes away the dark age effect which makes the games atmosphere feel good the games an upset in my opinion. its like undressing the game and showing the core was never good its the scenery that captured the eyes and hearts of the ac players and you've left it its not good release an update fix the lighting 🤔👌
Idk why other people hate ac 3 but personally I love the way it looks. I have seen the original one a lot but never played but still, as far as I have seen, I really like the remastered. It is probably pne of the few games that I have exclaimed so many times while running around the world that how beautiful it looks. Besides the glitches and some other flaws like face textures and shadows but personally, loved and enjoyed it a lot.
I definitely bought it with ac Odyssey, got it on black Friday....those two games and ac Liberations for 30 bucks and a couple dlcs and other miscellaneous stuff. Great deal? Hell yeah.... Improvement? Barely.... Can't get %100 sync cause of a glitched mission? Hell yeah :/
Improved lighting and textures along with better shadows and smoother animations. Of course the animations could be due to frame rate improvements. That's what I see. It's a matter of if you like the changes or not. The water doesn't really look as good though.
The lighting is so much better in the remaster. The problem is all the models weren't made with this lighting in mind so they can look a bit off. There are definitely a few areas that look more impressive in the original(the sea at 2:12 for example) at the same time the high contrast is pretty awful. Notice how you can barely see detail on the ship, the original has the same problem throughout, showing anything that's remotely dark as almost completely black, like an early ue3 game. I remember playing the original and being annoyed at Charles Lee's hair being a black hole. Good trade off so we can actually see the game.
I bought the remastered version of the game since it was my first time ever playing AC III, and considering the many positive comments the game received, I can say that I completely failed to grasp and enjoy the storyline. The textures were horrible to the point that it completely distracted me from the storyline, thus making it like a chore to play. I'm really saddened and disappointed that this edition made me dislike AC III that much
for me, AC 3 remastered is the best part of the series. It doesn't come across like that in the gameplay videos, but what I like best is actually the closeness of the camera to the character. The game character is much larger than in other parts, similarly detailed movements and physics as in Unity. the shipping from the intro, this short sequence, was much more adventurous and intense than the free ship gameplay in Black Flag. Ubisoft proves its narrative qualities similar to those in Last of Us. there are horses! Free riding! and it just doesn't feel as arcade as riding in valhalla or origins. there is still a classic combat system without trails, light effects and all these unnecessary, arcade-like effects. the fight is brutal with dynamic finishers, mak in between, sometimes at the end of the fight. free choice of weapons. you can't enter shops properly and then someone stands behind the counter and you don't just shop with a floating button. it reminds me of watchdogs with the richness of detail and the nearby char camera. watchdogs 2 and 3 was much more arcade-like and the camera further away, similar to the following AC parts. the snow, blood in the snow, wildlife and hunting, Indian storyline and bow and arrow - all refreshingly new and beautiful thanks to remastered. New functions such as attracting enemies from bushes or free aiming with firearms and bows round off the remastered experience. extremely satisfied !!!
The character models and shading of the original look better, however the background, environments and lighting look better on the remaster. Not to mention the gameplay mechanics are much more fluid on the remaster and they added some features that weren't in the original. This was and still is my favorite AC game and I have been playing like crazy since getting it. I would like to know what settings are you running both these games on to showcase? Because my Remaster doesn't look as awful this video.

A shame.
Your comment is very underrated , that's a good point
You know that the weather changes right?
The weather happened to be foggy when he recorded it, mate. It isn't like that all the time from what I've seen while playing
Its the damn whether system. I hate it when it happens too.
It's not the weather system. Every single sync point I've done in this game, city or frontier, has been so "foggy" that I couldn't see the horizon or the surrounding buildings. It's absolutely awful.
I love how child Connor is mostly white instead of Native American apparently remastered means they change the ethnicity of characters 😂😂
Jarl Balgruuf sorry I’m a stromcloak😬
Connor is the first american lol half british and half native
Yeetus Confuctus facts hahaha
They also added way more black people if you didn’t notice lmao
Talk about awkward.

The character models look worse but I don't think they downgraded anything
They just reduced the ambient occlusion that hides some of the models' lack of detail
They went from good looking face textures to playdoh
My first Assassin's Creed game
Was seriously considering forking out the money for this because of the small patches they've made to the game as well but honestly, the lighting in the remastered edition just looks harsh and overall worse?
I got the game for free on PSN. Is it not free anymore?

Dude he literally looks like play dough in the remaster
Bruhhhh wtffff
Devon Minnick They just changed the direction of the lighting and made him white. Not really an improvement in my opinion.
They don't have enough shadow on people's faces in the remaster
@@naranciaghirga5711 when Connor is an adult, it's a lot easier to see how in the remaster his skintones completely changed. It's not super drastic but it's enough to notice

he was never "indian", he's native american geez, but yeah he looks weird in the remastered

i noticed that when it's just gameplay the remaster looks really great. however it looks bad when in cutscenes where there would be close-up shots to the characters. the lighting of the remaster actually looks great when gameplay and running around in the open world, but in cutscenes it just looks to overexposed.
The original one was better because the remastered has a large file and the graphics were so changed, and I can't play it because it's gonna overheat my GPU. And right now, I'll give it 1.2/10
0:17 Remastered... Sure
"Remastered"
Water: *Looks worse than 360 and PS3*
Me: "I'll just Buy the PC version of Assassin's Creed 3."
"ok. let us enhance the brightness and contrast, reduce the quality of the characters' graphics, aaaaand... here, the AC III remastered!"
really genius...
The water splashing in front of the ship looks better in the original. The characters in the remastered version have less detail in the face. Remastered version does have enhanced details that move with the environment.
Looks like they added extra lighting, sunlight, etc for the remaster. The water and pretty much everything else looks much better in the original.
3:40 and this is what they call remastered.
ubisoft:Lets add some fog so people won't see the shitty details
The weather changes
Guys,I tell you how do "remaster"DIY,go to Nvidia or Amd settings and turn all graphics settings on max
Thats it😂
it is so hard to tell which one is better, the remaster certainly has better lighting, foliage and building textures, but the character skin texture seem too plastic. water seem different, but i cant tell if it got worse or better
The changes are so amazing that i would never notice them if not for a side by side comparison.
You guys in the comments have all been fooled😂😂 he switched them - the original is really on the right - if you’ve played the remaster you can see this easily.

I see slight changes but not enough to be re-released as a remastered game.
its still good to have it on modern consoles
They just want easy money, while putting the minimum effort into their games.
@@StarvingWolff And guess what? There's one fucking mission that prevents me from getting %100 sync...That one hunting mission where you have to get like 3 feathers, they're literally not there so basically I might have to restart the whole fucking game, I've seen people with this same problem SIX years ago.... I'm tired of these half assed games....
0:10 and 0:16
this "remaster" ultimately removed the fine details and made haytham (and benjamin franklin) look 10 years younger. removing the "stress" from his face, which is an important detail from a detail-narrative perspective. the "remaster" essentially smoothened out the fine details, making them look like more like action figures or wax figures
the water also took such a massive hit. it's insane how it's such a drastic downgrade.
another thing is the lighting. look at 0:32
okay, sure, maybe the remaster has more "realistic" lighting, in the sense that light gradually fades as you enter the cave... BUT the original had much more "drama" and visual storytelling because the light transition IS scripted and was done from an artistic and storytelling point of view.
see, this is why artistic interpretation should be given equal or more importance than technical specifications. technology SHOULD be used as a tool to tell your story and experience.
Assassins Creed 3: Demastered

For real
It didn't need a remaster! The game was already ahead of its time. All bad that happened that now you won't be able to find the original anywhere.
Remember running around in this game it was very enjoyable.
i remember loving the original one on my xbox360. i didnt even now theyre remastering it untill it appeared in my steam library (because of odessy delux edition) and i was extremely exited. now it isnt a big remastered like i expected but running around truly was fun and still is i the new one. even more fun because of 60fps.
I think lower contrast or brightness for the texture details of skins to be dark and clear instead of being blurred out by to much white thats hiding skin texture details!
Your pumping out videos like a factory
4:42 what the fak is wrong with his mouth in the remastered version?
Heh
looks like a squirell
They wasted their time and money, AC 3 was perfectly fine.
What annoys me the most about the remaster is that each musician in the taverns plays a different tune and the result is a total chaos.
LOL
The original looks much better with less Bugs.
Such cash grab. For everyone who didn't get this game included as Odyssey dlc, don't buy it
I definitely bought it with ac Odyssey, got it on black Friday....those two games and ac Liberations for 30 bucks and a couple dlcs and other miscellaneous stuff. Great deal? Hell yeah.... Improvement? Barely.... Can't get %100 sync cause of a glitched mission? Hell yeah :/

people who say remastered doesnt look better are crazy ac 4- rogue looks the same as ac 1 ac 3 is the best graphics until unity
1:12 even* also, look at Charles Lee at 2:21 to see what I'm talking about.
some elements from the remastered version are great (lights at 0:44) but the original is a bit better...
but both versions cant write with a pen 1:16
Remastered was a waste of time
4:00 he is so swag with that walk
I have played both of them, original as a teen and remaster as an adult. My favourite game of all time.
I bought the remastered version of the game since it was my first time ever playing AC III, and considering the many positive comments the game received, I can say that I completely failed to grasp and enjoy the storyline. The textures were horrible to the point that it completely distracted me from the storyline, thus making it like a chore to play. I'm really saddened and disappointed that this edition made me dislike AC III that much
The new one isn't rough enough. Sometimes the older stuff looks better, see Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
So you like shitty anti-aliasing with lot of shimmering around the graphics, shitty draw distance, and flat lighting?

Environment is good on remastered version, but they forget about the characters
for me, AC 3 remastered is the best part of the series.
Original : Perfect shadows

Remaster: a $30 lighting update
The character models and shading of the original look better, however the background, environments and lighting look better on the remaster. Not to mention the gameplay mechanics are much more fluid on the remaster and they added some features that weren't in the original.
