If I were to say everything would be okay that would be a lie because I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but the shittier the day the easier it is for the next to be better. Everything is as good as you make it, the lower you go the higher you can reach. If you’re on a mountain top there’s nothing higher, you’ve peaked. But if you’re at the lowest part of the world then everything else is up. The end is never the end. Keep going.

  • @karenconnell7493

This was actually Hank Jr.`s way of accepting his father's music. He was order by his mother, Miss Audry, for the first 15 years of his life to play his "daddy's music", that no one wanted to listen to him, they came to see a reincarnation of Hank Sir. Can you imagine that? Your entire life being told you will never be good enough? And to top it off, by the woman who gave you life?
I can't imagine the hell he must have lived through with that woman. So when he was old enough, he broke free and played his own stuff, and found to his disappointment that his mother was right. They boo`ed him off the stage, told him to play his daddy's music. So for years he wouldn't touch his dad's stuff. He wanted his own style, his own identity. So, we get to this song. He finds this recording in an attic and does a "duet" with his dad. He finally embraces his dad's music and by doing so, earns "Song of the Year" with it, at the CMT Awards. Hank Jr. is finally able to let the ghost of his father free, and thus is able to go on with his music, proudly, without the fans of his father's putting him down. He finally has his own fan base.
Is he the most talented out there? No. But give the man an award for the most spirited and the most courageous. Y`all can cut him down with your nasty comments on TH-cam, but trust me, he has heard and read worst, much worse than any of you Hank Jr. haters could ever put out here.
Respect the man for the pain he has survived through, respect the man for the original artist that he fought so hard to become, and did, even though he had to fight a ghost to do it. Give him props for the over six decades of entertainment that he gave us, his fans, worldwide.
    KRC

This song was originally demoed by Hank Sr, then given to Bill Lister to record when he needed a beer drinking song. In 1988 Lister gave the demo to Hank Jr and he recorded it "with" his father. I'm not sure what the OP is talking about, but that's how the song got into Hank Jr.'s hand. There is an interview with Lister and Jr confirming this and is still on this site I believe.

Every Friday we would sit in his home workshop and drink a beer and when this song would come on we would both sing our hearts out to this song...... Now when I'm missing him I turn this have a beer and sing as I cry about the best drinking buddy I have ever had. Miss you Uncle Rick

I don't think about what a famous person had done that lead to their demise considering Hank Williams, Sr. died from a massive heart attack at the age of 29 in the backseat of his car that his 18-year-old chaffuer (I think I misspelled the word) was driving at midnight on New Year's Day 1953. My point is he left a great country music legacy behind. His son, Hank, Jr., started his own country singing career thanks to his mama and was singing his daddy's songs until that fateful mountain climb with a friend and his son that nearly killed him. After his full recovery, he started singing his own songs but would still pay tribute to his daddy.

Everyone with a dad, even without one, has a king for a dad in some sense. One night at the race track a drunk dude kept calling my dad a legend. He was just driving a car that was similar to some other good driver at that small track. I believe my dad is a legend in his own sense with small dirt tracks here and there, simply for existing and treating everyone with respect. However, Hank Sr was an absolute.. I don't even know.

He toured from bar to bar performing perhaps even this song here. I want to memorialize his life in the comments of this song where like-minded people may think of him. I was privileged to be able to see this song done by Hank Williams Jr. at the Del Mar County Fair I believe it was 1988 or 1989. Hank Williams Jr announced he had a special treat for us. The white projector screen came down and then he performed it! I am not sure when Hank Williams Jr released this song but I thought it might have been one of this songs first performance. Whether it was one of the first times he did this song or not, it was the first time I seen it and my wife and I felt very privileged to have been there to see it. I was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton and we didn't get it very much! So it was a special night for us. I had serious chills up and down my spine! I had my oldest son, Mark Jr on my shoulders. Wow, what a performance it was. I still get chills up and down my spine whenever I watch the video! Not even the best Dr's,knew what a lethal combination that was,let alone an Alabama Hillbilly, from the sticks! I never, ever heard anything about him losing control,of his left leg! The way he is standing,is the crouched -knee stance;it apparently alleviated, his back, that way! ;)
