i was looking at it earlier, you can probably do it with the engine in, however it looks like a pain in the but to swap it. up to you, to pull the engine is only easy too its 4 main bolts on the bottom. Argos are not always the easiest to work on
@muddythumper8152 thanks for the reply & your right it's no to fun to work ! Anyway the mtrs out ( 18 HP Kohler) now in thinking about buying A elect.start 18 hp one cylinder & there would be plenty of Room making things easier in the future if I had to work on it also 30 lbs+ lighter motor ! Question is this factory motor has A 1"× 6" shaft the torque converter rides on ? Is that going to be a problem changing the motor over to something else
@@martinkobert4402 are you swapping the engine or starter motor? I was going to convert my 17hp kohler to 23hp or 30 hp one day, but plans changed and im still using the 17hp. the torque converter will fit on a lot of other motors, i was thinking the princess auto engine for a swap, another one i was looking at was lifan engine i think its 27 hp
@muddythumper8152 I don't want to put that old tired motor back in when there's other ones out there smaller lighter & more HP! I just need to find one that torque converter fits on!
@@martinkobert4402 to be honest your factory torque converter will fit onto most engines, if youre in the states look up harbor freight predator engines, if youre up in canada like me, look up Pro point princess auto engine, i think its 703 cc or something close to it or type lifan 27hp engine in google. Also these machines are simple , keep in mind most Snowmobile torque converters will work too. if you think outside the box youll make it work. drop a line if you get stuck.
The tub & top... cannot be replaced & virtually impossible to repair. Pay a LOT of attention to tge front corners of the hatch for the engine. The standard winch bracket has a frame which bolts back to the chassis & it sucks. If the winch mount moves, it will Crack the upper tub at these corners. Chassis: the steel ladder chassis in the bottom. They get rusty & are again very difficult to repair. Tires: the runamuk tires are terrible. They dont swim worthva damn. Replace them with ITP Mud Lite 22x11-8. Argo wheels all leak air.. it is normal so be ready to check & pump daily. Most of the other stuff is repairable, replacable but remember, Argo parts are VERY EXPENSIVE!
@@davidbrewer7937 yup you got that right Argos are expensive , upper tubs and lowers can be swapped out. I’ve had mine separated. Lower tub is a lot of work to remove cause you have to remove the frame. I got my old 8x8 for sale now. She has mud tires on it currently .I’m happy with the 2022 model so hope the 8 wheeler gets a good home. Argos are maintenance machines that’s for sure. I drive my 6x6 more then the quad these days! $rice?
Price for what ? I ended up buying my 84 with a blown engine for 2000$ with mint tracks. New machines I’m picking up as clearance models
