Phantom does an exceptional job of reaching into the heart and soul through music and presentation. If DCI would add a "They just get it" judging category, Phantom would win every time. Thank you to the staff and members for GETTING IT again.
They were at the first Drum Corps Competition I went to. I still remember hearing the impact at 1:20 and being completely blown away. I instantly fell in love with Phantom (more than I already was). This performance motivated me to switch to brass and I'll always remember it for that
I was and am you, saying that very same thing about their 2003 harmonic journey show beginning to the BREATHTAKING end which I only saw on the internet. ✌️👀👽💦✌️😎
such control of the brass sound..and those mellophones are killer!!!! Loved the Mozart... what impresses me the most is that they stand with their horns up for the entire performance...wish my band had the discipline they have
THIS VIDEO. I had no idea what a drum and bugle corps was. I just thought it meant drumline. Then I found THIS VIDEO. I still didn’t realize they marched but I heard something like nothing I’d ever heard before at the hit in Elsa’s Procession and I was instantly bound to this activity. It has changed my life and I haven’t even marched yet.
Part of me wishes I was born a bit earlier and exposed to this stuff before so I could have seen all of these amazing shows live. Phantom and BD 2011 are by far my favorite shows, and it’s a shame I will never be able to see them.
wow the music is amazing and well picked. sure it might be early right now but this show has potential. the drum line really suprised me even though Paul Rennick is not drum caption head anymore, they already sound clean! great camera audio as well. :)
@euphmmx 1. Phantom did not swap Rennick for Gwaltney. Paul Rennick left to go to Santa Clara Vanguard and the whole drumline went with him. 2. The uniforms were designed specifically for this production.
One of the best things about seeing a show this early in the season is watching it progress with time! Sure there may be some balance and intonation issues here and there, but that goes with EVER corps this early in the game :). So much has changed JUST since their spring kickoff. Having the chance to play East of Eden with them was one of the most memorable musical experiences I have at this time, until I (hopefully) make PR next summer :) and as for the pit, let them express their love for PR!
Agreed with @CanyonBassCaptain. This is going to amazing come August. Had chills just about the whole time throughout this early season video. Incidentally, the audio quality on this camera is really good.
Man, I can't wait to the this show live this summer! Definitely, going to the at the New Meadowlands Stadium in August. I think I will have to get tickets for DCI East as well.
I'll be seeing them in Stockton on Sunday, and I can't wait to hear the Mozart Requiem arrangement in person. I got big chills on that first "Dies Irae" hit! Go, Phantom!
@srb30a They use the bounce to keep time. Practically every good pit does it to stay with each other. So either be distracted by the human metronomes or be distracted by the tears that can and will be caused without it.
@tRev14863 Actually heres the show...the opener is from the soundtrack of East of Eden. Besides the theme from Nino Rota's score from romeo and juliet, a good portion of the show is from Mozart's Requiem, namely the lacrimosa and confutatis.
audition for both, and see how it goes. It's so worth the weekend camp no matter what your plans. there are several Cali people in Phantom, btw. Good luck!
I was so excited to finally hear this show, even though its about 10 days to the start of the DCI 2011 season. Just imagine how much it will grow all the way until Finals! It'll be a great show nontheless.
I have been listening to this every evening for the past several month and it still give me goosebumps every time time (headphones are best). Now, can one of you smart DCI folks tell me why the 4 snare drummers in that front row appear to stop "rocking" or "counting cadence" of whatever you call it at about 9:36? Musically, I do not hear anything different happening..
@NSIvanhoe well euphonium but yes. First time performing in public and everyone was used to knowing their entrances based on the drill, not dozens of measures. Inexcusable but understandable

Phantom Regiment - The leading cause of goosebumps/chills
Listening a decade later and being used to the finals version, I liked this transition into the closer better. It flowed way smoother.
This is the one show I WISH I saw live
The way this show grew and evolved over the season into what it became is nothing short of miraculous. It really was an underrated masterpiece.

I'm so glad they changed the sectional solis at 7:35.
The change made them so much more effective.
I wish I could have watched this show live. I feel I might have cried like a baby

My three year old just walked in the room and said "I like your music."
Obviously she has great taste!
They changed the show a LOT from the early season to finals. The finals video sounds so much different
I have a feeling this will become one of Phantoms "Big" shows. For being June 7th, it sounds pretty darn good! Love the uniforms Phantom!!

I got a callback, you guys!
I'm new in the DCI fandom, but after seeing Phantom play at my school Friday night...They are definitely my favorite. Just amazing!
The pit really gets into the music. I love it. ^_^
I can't wait to see this live on the 26th!
Part of me wishes I was born a bit earlier and exposed to this stuff before so I could have seen all of these amazing shows live. Phantom and BD 2011 are by far my favorite shows, and it’s a shame I will never be able to see them.
I want to be part of Phantom Regiment 2012 more than anything I have ever wanted.
One thought going through the minds of the Tubas and Euphs: OWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOOOWWWW!
Wow! That Phantom sound.
I've had this stuck in my head the past week.
Carolina Crown music with that bright brass of Phantom...buzzsaw!
I play melephone for Ohio state and I have allways looked up to these guys as my motivation!

Love theme from Romeo and Juliet is so beautiful :')
I wouldn’t give up saxophone for the world… except maybe to time travel and be in this show…

I love watching the contra's slowly die as the show goes on. (I'm not hating, I'm loving cause I know Jupiters)
ALL of the corps are bringing it this year. I've never been more excited about a season until now :)
I can't wait to see the on-field interpretation. I'm so excited to see Phantom this year.
funny read this 10 years later after seeing that beautiful show 100 times on you tube
What a treat for a park concert! They could not get much better.
This is such great quality.
@ScottyNeutron Yes...thank you! Loved seeing Phantom in SLC this year.
A little Verdi's Requiem and ending with Elsa's. I'm loving this show!

I love how the battery sounds like WGI. That's some crazy stuff they're playing. The brass is amazing in the opener.
They are so musical and they put so much emotion into it , no other Corps take my breath away like phantom does
Phantom is the only world class I would ever want to march in because of the outrageous amount of feeling that they produce in their music.
Agreed with @CanyonBassCaptain. This is going to amazing come August. Had chills just about the whole time throughout this early season video.

Pink hat is rocking out at the requiem part, hahaha

beautiful.
you are very happy right now !!
Two people are BD fans who still can't get over from seeing Phantom win in '08.
So wonderfully beautiful...
The mellos note in the chord at 1:54 gave me chills.

@SunDevlFan4Life Just saw them Live in AZ as well!! It was freaking AMAZING!! :D
Antonio Cabrera hey dad
OHH MAN!! i can't wait to see them live!!!
I saw them in illinois last night and they got so loud :DDD
Gorgeous duet to start it off, I love it.
Love all the head bopping, lol
Requiem of Mozart and Romeo and Juliet. How much better can this get?!
Awsome quality!
Incredible.
@Inspadave New World Symphony probably one of my most favorite shows :D
This is one of the most beautiful ways to get someone to cry lol

This must have been so loud and amazing.
I love this show!
PLEASE upload the Concert in the Park performance from this year if you go!
audition for both, and see how it goes. It's so worth the weekend camp no matter what your plans. there are several Cali people in Phantom, btw. Good luck!
Lady in the pink hat is rocking out!!!
Saw them last night live at DCI West, fucking amazing. had goosebumps for the whole show
Interesting to hear the show before we refined it into the final product. Still a product to be proud of
Oh my god the drumline at the impact in the closer just go ham
Pretty good...Intonation was a bit all over the place at time but VERY GOOD show...I can't wait to see them in August
I was so excited to finally hear this show, even though its about 10 days to the start of the DCI 2011 season. Just imagine how much it will grow all the way until Finals! It'll be a great show nontheless.
my brother just made 2012 Cavaliers and i just can't wait to go see DCI Finals
DCI is coming to our schools field this summer...awwwwe cant wait
Crazy how much a show can change by finals! :)
Oh yes, now I can't wait to see them live :D
@euphmmx They wore black gauntlets on white uniforms in 1989. You might be familiar with that program. One of their best ever.
so glad they put contras in the front..thats the way it should be!!
@1tubachick I agree as well, as a fellow tuba player I must say that the tubas did a suburb job
Was anyone else grooving out when they heard the funky beat in the beginning of the ballad?
@Vahoovala Exactly what happened when I saw them live, except on a much grander scale.
Musically, I do not hear anything different happening..
just wow.
@gordrogb they stopped marking time meaning that in their actual show, they stop marching at that point in the music
On FIRE! Lets Go!
@NSIvanhoe well euphonium but yes. First time performing in public and everyone was used to knowing their entrances based on the drill, not dozens of measures. Inexcusable but understandable
@Smajor22 but I am digging their uni's this year
Thanks, great to know.
yeah front ensemble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
