It took me over 50 years to get to Cape Cod. That's when I first heard Patti Page's Old Cape Cod in Los Angeles and knew I wanted to go. Now I live an 1-1/2 hours away. And yes, I've finally been there and going tomorrow, too, I hope?
I was hoping i would find this..gorgeous and the scenes are breathtaking; beautiful job! and of course what can i say about Patti and "old Cape Cod" one of my all time favorites...
This song was one of my Mom's all-time favorites, and, through the years, has become mine, also. It brings back the 50's so beautifully. God Bless, Patti. wolfsky9
Very well written and very well sung. Only a handful of beautiful songs that i place in this catergory. The harmony is second to none. WOW thank you Patti Page....
On of my top favorite femal singers of the 20th Century. Thanks a lot for the one who put the song on You Tube. I can hear it over and over again. The song is a big shot in the movie Die Hard II (with Bruce Willis).
I first heard this song as a sample of a cover on a Groove Armada Remix. Later to find out they had a slower version called At the River. I fell in love with the song. Some 5 years later while watching a documentary on TV I heard a track in the background with familiar lyrics - but a much older sound, I discovered the original artist being Patti Page. Recorded half a century ago it is one of the most pleasant things to hit my ears.
Grandpa used to love Patti Page. I remember as a little boy he'd play it on the console. Record players were these big pieces of furniture back then. So imagine my surprise when I heard Groove Armada's "At the River". I was so happy. And it wasn't the fantastic MDMA I was on either. I though it was so cool that they sampled Patti Page.
This song always reminds me of President John F. Kennedy walking along the sand dunes along the beach at Cape Cod ! ( That famous photo. ) Those were the days. Thanks Patti Page. R.I.P.
I first heard this song in Bruce Willis Die Hard 2...and if i'm not mistaken in Russell Crowe A Good Year...wow i just love the old school singers.....
Wow - I'm sitting at the end of Cape Cod (Provincetown) right now, and just happened to click on this video. Cornwall is not Cape Cod, but it's sure beautiful all the same! That castle with the arial shot is breathtaking! Great vid!!
wow... i like this song but the first time i heard of it was from Groove Armada's "At the River" so my head was seeing someone loving the dessart or some middle eastern thing... Cape Cod plug, huh... crazy.
Interesting listening to this AFTER you've heard Groove Armada's 'At the River'. I wondered for a long time where those words came from - it's not the normal stuff of 90's electro music. I know its fashionable to criticize music that samples or copies earlier classics, but I think they both stand up in their own right. This is a wonderful piece of 50s close harmony. Groove Armada did something unique (solo trombone!) and created something totally new.
This song was sampled by "Grove Armada" aka the dj's in "at the river"; and includes "noise" that song i think u r not open minded person about music, if you listen carefully the music today you'll find that so many bands have greats song very similar like this talking abiut lounge, chillout, ambient, deep house.
I remember this song when I was a little girl. It STILL sounds great! By the way, Bette Midler and Anne Murray did some great versions of it. But Patti beats them all. :)
Thanks for your kind remarks Shubael1809 all the video is from Cornwall in the beautiful south west of England. thepilotinn was kind enough to put some clips together with Pattie Pages' Old Cape Cod, not so weird after all?
Lovely video, and Cornwall is indeed very beautiful, but it's not very much like Cape Cod; if you're looking for an equivalent landscape in the UK, the coast of Norfolk is quite a bit more like it.
What does this video have to do with Cape Cod? I love the video, but isn't there a song about Cornwall? Watching it just looked strange to someone who spends a lot of time on the Cape. I'd like to hear music about what I was watching, either that or pictures of the Cape while listening. Actually, I'd like to do both. Thanks for the beautiful scenery anyway..
I wish I could take the credit but that goes to thepilotinn whom was very kind to put a lovely video together (I wouldn't know where to start!) with the wonderful song Old Cape Cod by the eqaully wonderfull Patti Page.

the voice-over harmony is awesome...she may have pioneered it
This is beautiful. I take it this is Cornwall, England, yes? Lovely!
My summer camp plays this at the final dance, the hidden hollow hop. This song makes me feel like im right back there. I love you HHC!
Awesome SONG!!!
I"m from Massachusetts!! and this song...brings back memories!!
thank you!
This hit by Patti Page went to #3 on the Top 40 charts and finished at #47 for the year, 1957.
My friend and I were listening to a song by AIR and so I showed her this song and she loved it even more.
Thanks for posting one of my old favorites!
I sometimes feel sorry for the youth of today.....they haven't a clue as to what real music is!!
Very well written and very well sung. Only a handful of beautiful songs that i place in this catergory. The harmony is second to none. WOW thank you Patti Page....
The very first scene is Torcross/Slapton beach in South Devon. Another beautiful part of the world and this song suits it beautifully.
Makes me want to go there ---right now !! Bill Nix
Wow, I felt like I had a vacation on Cape Cod!
I live in Cornwall.
I love it here.

What a beautiful video and "Old Cape Cod" is one of my favorite songs...Thanks for this treat...
They did this song justice....
I hope nobody is offended, but Groove Armada made an AMAZING song with this beautiful song. It's called At the River. IT HAS LAZER GUN SOUNDS!

This song always reminds me of President John F. Kennedy walking along the sand dunes along the beach at Cape Cod ! ( That famous photo. ) Those were the days.
Thanks Patti Page. R.I.P.

Stunning! I love the place and the song. I've heard Jerry Vale's version which is also lovely.
I loved watching here TV show; that is how old I am.

素晴らしい!の一言。

yesssss i was trying to think of what the film was ! lol
wow... i like this song but the first time i heard of it was from Groove Armada's "At the River" so my head was seeing someone loving the dessart or some middle eastern thing... Cape Cod plug, huh... crazy.

Dreamy and slow. Beautiful pictures of Cornwall...but they sure dont look a thing like the Cape.
Es un tema delicioso!!!
También me lo llevo, ja!
5 *
We were wondering why Cape Cod was looking so strange until we saw that it is actually Cornhole!
I love the Groove Armada version of this song, but this is amazing
Die hard 2 is on and I just heard this, lol such a strange song for a macho movie I just had to look it up!
@eddobh Yes, this is definitely the original hit from the summer of 1957.
@salemconn : It's already said in the description. It's Cornwall in the UK.
Beautiful song. Would have been better with pictures of Cape Cod.
obrigado Patti.
inesquecível.
RIP.
this song is a soudntrack of the movie "a good year" , is great (Y)
We lost a great talent and a beautiful lady. Tim
'Im Marv, Marv, Marv. I just thought you were trying to steal my records thats all, I'm just the janitor'
Gotta love Die Hard 2!!!!
Groove Armada!
Bette Midler does an absolutely fabulous version of this on her album "Songs For The New Depression".
Best version
THAT WAS SUCH A SAD PART
I just love this song and even more when I went there. Webluke, what language is that?
This song was sampled by "Grove Armada" aka the dj's in "at the river"; and includes "noise" that song i think u r not open minded person about music, if you listen carefully the music today you'll find that so many bands have greats song very similar like this talking abiut lounge, chillout, ambient, deep house.
its great ,BUT, why cant we watch scenes of cape cod instead of cornwell . i guess it dosent really matter too much anyway
I remember this song when I was a little girl. It STILL sounds great! By the way,
Bette Midler and Anne Murray did some great versions of it.
But Patti beats them all. :)
You've obviously BEEN to the famous Atlantic House at the tip of Cape Cod. AKA Provincetown. :)
.... this song was played at president kennedys wedding to jackie...!
Thanks for your kind remarks Shubael1809 all the video is from Cornwall in the beautiful south west of England. thepilotinn was kind enough to put some clips together with Pattie Pages' Old Cape Cod, not so weird after all?
heh chicanes sand dunes, i never knew... until i too, watched die hard..lol
@feever2000 It is indeed, and also Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs"! :) Nevertheless it is a very nice part of the Country.
thats where i herd it [die hard 2] thought great sound .
They were filming in Europe somewhere???? The pictures are nice but doesn't sync w/ the song. Bad productional call.
right you are, yoda!
me too...it was marvin's record...
Lovely video, and Cornwall is indeed very beautiful, but it's not very much like Cape Cod; if you're looking for an equivalent landscape in the UK, the coast of Norfolk is quite a bit more like it.
this is not the first version of the song, right?
forgive my poor english...
Heard this in Mad Men
Love this song & lovely scenery...but it looks like southern Europe, definitely isn't the Cape!
nice! i just heard it from Mad Men s4 e3
What does this video have to do with Cape Cod? I love the video, but isn't there a song about Cornwall? Watching it just looked strange to someone who spends a lot of time on the Cape. the effect on her her voice reminds me emogen heap - hide and seek.
clovelly is in devon not cornwall
not an effect, just her harmonising with herself
Yes. Sampled by...
and you're also very funny. It was a hit in the early to mid '50's, so if you're a youngster you're excused...
Actually, maybe it was Groove Armada? I can't even remember anymore.
Maybe it would be nice to put the pictures of Cape Cod instead of other places. Just saying
Yeah too bad It's not included in Fallout 3. I learnt of this song via the movie Die Hard 2 lol.
@lodie311 same to me.
