I just started vlogging for almost a month now and I really need this kind of tutorials, tips, advices etc. and by watching this video, I am tempting to dig in to your videos about these kind of information that will help me grow not only by vlogging but also as a knowledgable videographer or photographer someday. I just bought a Go Pro 9 and was super disappointed with the footage but it's also partially my issue because It's my first ever Go Pro and i'm just tryin to figure out what settings etc I have to use and then the other half is editing :)) You always expect to immediately capture the quality of footage you see on the adverts haha

I noticed you did the exposure tap lock on your video do you think it would have come out better if you let the camera do it or would you still have gone with what you said with locking on more onto the buildings? Cant wait to give this a go. Thanks for the great tutorial!

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not exposure lock. It‘s spot metering on the building, which means auto exposure measured in a certain area.

      - Frame your shots so that you don't see it (keep straight lines and the horizon away from the edges)
      - Use a 21:9 aspect ratio or cinematic bars to cut the top and bottom off
      - Film in Linear mode
      - Use a plugin like Alex4D to get rid of the look in post

    How would you you recommend me record an 8 hour time lapse of me painting art work on this camera? What settings do you think would be best?
    Can I record time lapses whilst still having it charging at the same time? I’ve read that this camera gets hot very quickly.
    I’m also a bit confused because I’ve read that you can’t keep the camera recording whilst charging the battery.
    Can I export this much footage to my iPhone XR and edit them on there? If I can, how does that effect the quality?
    Sorry that these are poorly asked question but any help would be appreciated! Thank you :)

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can charge it while recording the timelapse. Just use the normal timelapse mode either with photo or video depending on what quality you want. If it's photo timelapse, you can't send to phone but with a video file it should work.

      That is correct. Raw means it reads the full raw sensor data. Linear crops and adds lens corrections to the image. So that wouldn’t be raw anymore. No worries, you can still create a linear effect in post and you don’t lose quality as the camera would do the same.

    Hi, great video! Have you had any issues with dew/frost on the lens while recording timelapses? Have you tried it out in the freezing temperatures? Condensation is a real issue with timelapses and I'm wondering how it will turn out especially in the cold enviroments, as I'm planning to buy GP10 to use it in such conditions. With my primary camera it's always mandatory to use a heater strip on the lens and I'm not sure if it's possible (if needed) with GP. Maybe strap the whole GP with the heater strip? :D

    Perfect Pascal. Do you have an advice to achieve this with the Osmo Pocket? Because as far as I know you can set shutterspeed and iso either manual or both auto right? I always enjoy watching your tutorials. Thank you

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the light is consistent over the day, better use manual and changing light, better to use automatic. I never shot a normal time-lapse with OP (and I don't have one anymore). So I can't say much about that unfortunately. You will likely get more flicker with the OP.

    • @clausstahl5166

      I’ve been using my OP for capturing motion timelapse and must say that the gimbal achieve the pan during the timelapse very well. Only thing is supplying constant power to the OP for multi hour timelapses. Even with a power bank connected, after a 3 hour timelapse the OP showed that its battery is at a very low charge level

  • @psoon04286
    @psoon04286 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve been considering the Osmo Action. Do you know if it too has similar capabilities for timelapses.
    Another question, if you don’t mind. Do you leave your camera mounted like that on a tripod overnight? Have you a tent nearby so that you can keep an eye on your equipment? Thanks so much for sharing👍😊

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never used the Osmo Action, but I'm sure it has a photo time-lapse mode. Not sure, though if it handles flicker so well. I didn't use a tent yet. Always got up very early (4:15 for that one) and then drove to a viewpoint. Of course, depending on the conditions it makes sense to set up a tent. But I wouldn't leave it out there over night. Better to set an alarm at the time you want to start and then set it up and start manually. You never know who comes along and needs a GoPro ;-)

    Hi Pascal, I tried filming a nightlapse in my garden but it turned out completely dark till the sun rised. What did I do wrong?
    I used the following settings: raw photo, 20s interval, shutter auto, iso min 100, iso max 200, ev comp -0,5.
    i checked the output photos, it used shutter time 10sec and iso 200 for all the images during the night ... That was probably not enough to get a fairly bright image. - Why didnt it go higher in shutter time? How can I improve this?
    (I didnt use the use spot metering, should I? Does this also get applied even when I shedule my timelaps and turn the gopro off?)
    thanks for any help on this.

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try 30s then for intervall. Or if there is no light at all and clouds, it could be normal that you don’t see much.

    • @JeyPii1801
      @JeyPii1801 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pascalbasel many thanks for the answer! Actually, if i boost the brightness extremely high in post, i start to see the milkyway ... so it should have captured at least something.
      I was wondering, why it used 10s shutter time in auto (resulting in dark frames) instead of a higher value...
      Anyways, you think cranking up the interval should do the trick? Would it potentially give better results to place the spot metering in the field of interest? Would you recommend that for doing timelapses in genereal?
