It’s one thing if the Dodgers went “OMG, I can’t believe our luck!”. It’s entirely another thing if they KNEW it was just a matter of time before Yankees self destruct at some point. That’s so humiliating.

Girardi wasn't a "friend manager". He was exactly the kind of manager you are describing but the Yankees as a team still had these issues. Almost like it is a systemic problem in the Yankees organization, not a managerial one. I will tell you your problem. Hal isn't George. George loved baseball and HATED to lose. He wouldn't tolerate anyone in the organization who didn't think the same way. Hal doesn't particularly love baseball nor does he hate to lose. He just wants the money the Yankees generate.

Nobody is talking about the differences in the two teams on running to first base in Game Five. Yes, the Yankees made a mistake in not covering first, but Mookie ran through first base, and got there in time. With two outs, and the Yankees having a chance to score, Jazz slid into first base on a close play. If he runs through the base, like everyone who has ever played Little League knows is faster, he might get there in time. The Yankees would have gotten runs out of that play. Something as simple as just running through first base. That isn't a baserunning skill issue. That is a mental error.

They don’t use it to scout the opposition and apply it to defenseive positioning. They don’t steal bases fucking ever. They cannot hit lefties. The manager is like a chaperone and apparently has no capacity to teach the game to the players. My buddy and I got into a huge argument in the middle of a padres game last year cuz i commented that Soto takes bad angles and doesn’t track balls well. The play in question was right in front of us in left field. He thought I was crazy, he even played some pro ball with the nationals years ago, and I watched many other similar plays. He does have a strong arm but imo it’s really like he loses focus and gets distracted between pitches.

About priorities, it just means they didn’t do their homework on the Dodgers. Because if they did, they’d know that Dodger bats chase less than other teams. So, they should have known that chances are, the ball is gonna be in play and they can’t rely on strikeouts. If their management had foresight, they’d know that once they get to the WS, they’d most likely face the Dodgers. Enough time to impress upon the players to clean up their fielding and positioning.

Seriously think about that…..then realize that team won a leading 98 games and the WS. The depth in the rotation, bullpen, and lineup is otherworldly. Both NY teams need to realize(the Mets do by all accounts) that Soto is just one important piece. You need to improve the lineup DRAMATICALLY, the bullpen DRAMATICALLY, the rotation DRAMATICALLY. Yes, you can take a series against a better team…..but neither team with their abundance of resources should take the good plus lucky approach.

Already made a comment. You guys can analyze this to death, but however you cut it, the Yankees do not play good fundemental baseball. Period. They're good enough to over power mediocre teams, but once the going gets tough, they're usually outplayed. In the pressure cooker of the playoffs and Series, good pitching and power hitting will rarely if ever overcome otherwise equal teams that field better, run better, have more patience at the plate, are better coached and play as a cohesive unit. As a NYer it pains me to say this, but the Dodgers were a far superior team on all levels, it was clear from the first pitch.

Michael mentioned the key detail around 3:25……this team has dominated the central for many years, including throughout the entire Boone era. Then they run into a fellow Eastern team like the Rays/Sox or draw the Astros from the West and its lights out. Nothing has changed. It just so happened that the divisional round was composed of 3 central teams plus Yanks. So they did what they always do and made the WS. They didn’t do it because they improved, they did because the competition was sufficiently mediocre. Then they drew a top end club and they lost, as they always do. That’s the reality……2024 was no different than previous years. Unfortunately Hal and Cash will use the WS appearance as an excuse for more of the same.

Bootom line Yankees have no one to blame but themselves. Those fundamentals situation should’ve been discussed and practiced by Boone with pitchers and first basemen during spring training and season . Boone also give up Game 1 due to stupid mistakes of using injured Nector Cortes who hasn’t pitched 37 days for high leverage situations. Boone should be Fire 🔥 no championship now 7 years and counting. Cashman should be Fire 🔥 no championship 15 years and counting.
