    Awesome post on how to repair faulty fuel gauge. I did this procedure on my 2014 Hilux and it worked perfectly. So thank you so much for the post. Saved me $$$ from purchasing a new instrument cluster. I live in Costa Rica and Toyota parts are very expensive if you can even get it.

      That's great. I bet there's a good market for a repair shop there!

    Excellent informative video. This fix works perfectly. Well done and thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    At the best case scenario, your video saves $100 on labor fees. At the worst, I dont know the cost of a new cluster plus labour which would do the same exact problem at around 100k miles. Especially in hot countries logically would come up faster.
    Blessed you!!! and Thank You!!!!

    Thank you it work well for me even after the Toyota dealership workshop could not fix it. They recommended replacing the entire cluster Board. Its a pity. Anywhere J thankyou for the huge savings.

      Good stuff! Dealerships will never be willing to invest in a setup to repair stuff at this level. Plenty of companies out there making good coin on it though.

    Well these stepper motors are smart enough to re-adjust their starting point.
    What I usually do is, place the needles facing upwards and turn them to zero (C and E for the temp and fuel).
    Make sure you turn them at the direction they move. Turning in reverse direction will mess up everything.

    Well done, the cluster lives again!.
    I can't imagine how much a new one would have been, not cheap i expect.
    As you showed the crack-idge i wondered if we can blame lead free solder for the failures.
    I'm no lover of lead free crap, can you tell lol.
    jeffescortlx is a pro at ill clusters, always interesting to see what died lol.

    • @JonnyFix

      I blame lead free as well. Can you believe some places charge almost $400 for this basic repair! I really should take this up full time.

      @@JonnyFix If you do that, you will need spares and an exercising control to make sure its working ok.
      Go and watch jeffescortlx, he is a nice bloke 😀
      He doesnt mind giving information away to help people.
      And if you already watch him, watch him harder.. oow that sounds odd 😀
      Ok ill leave you in pieces lol.

    You don't need to pull any of the front off. Just the 2 screws and the white cover on the back.

    Great video. Is there a way of testing with a multimeter prior to soldering?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may be able to test between the pad on one side to the pad on the other, if the joint is high resistance it will add on to the resistors value. I think some are 220ohm so if you measured it at say 4.2k ohm you'd know the joint was bad. Note some of these are connected in parallel so be aware of what your expected total resistance should be before measuring (eg t = 1/(1/220+1/220+1/220) and be careful probing the pad that you don't touch or mush solder into the resistor and make it good again, probe elsewhere on the pcb that leads to same connection.

    Absolutely great video! I need to repair mine as well. Wondering what type of solder you used : lead-free or leaded?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Leaded, always 😄

    • @rikvanmoll
      @rikvanmoll 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JonnyFix thanks! I was just checking as I am not an expert here on solder and read somewhere that both types would not go together well, e.g. reparing soldered joints with the opposite type of solder than the original. Again: great video that helps a lot of ‘gauge problem victims’. Keep going👍👍

      @@rikvanmoll All good mate. Never had a problem mixing them. You're only adding lead to unleaded to make semi-leaded haha. If you want to be really sure you can use wick to remove the old stuff first.

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Because that wasn't the cause of the fault in your case. Check the sender unit in the tank, the connection to the gauge etc.

    This bloke must do it for a living..he's taking the needlessly long method..
    Just undo the 2 screws on the back and white cover comes off.
