    The reveal of "Husker" went unnoticed. Husker was Bill Adama's call sign when he was a viper pilot. The name "Husker" was also the name on the Mk II viper gifted to Adama by the flight crew just before the attack in episode 1.
    I watched RAZOR in release order. I didn't have much choice at the time. Anyone who was watching the series should have worked out who was what by that stage of the game.
    Its the "when" reveals of "who is what" is the best. Trust me when I say "The best is yet to come".

    Razor puts a HUGE change of context on the Pegasus-Six and Admiral Kanes relationship in the earlier seasons. They used to be a couple in an intimate relationship. Kane found out 6 was a Cylon and put her in a room to be repeated assaulted by the crew. That's pretty effed up. Kinda changes the perspective/motivations on Pegasus-Six nuking abuncha ships at New Caprica too.

    All Razor showed me about Cain was that she was a coward who spent her commend after the Cylon attack trying to over compensate for leaving her sister behind by ordering the actions she took. Contrary to her 'the best defence is a good offense ' statement it heavily suggests that after getting a load of her pilots killed refusing to try and jump away from a trap Pegasus didn't actually DO anything until they met up with Galactica.

    The thing about the "spoilers" of this movie is that the whole conversation could color how you view Starbuck in Season 3, leading to unintended conclusions. Not sure if it's ideal or not. That's why I say to save it for release order, despite usually being a chronological guy.
    That said, the *Second* film , "The Plan" I wholeheartedly think you should watch after episode 15 or 16 of Season 4 and not after the finale, cause it's not a great epilogue to the show and it's not got any spoilers for the final episodes of the series.
    At one point, Syfy had on their podcast page the recording of the writers pitching the movie to Ronald D. Moore on their site, which was an interesting listen. Talking about pulling out the Pegasus sets because they took them down to make room for the Cylon Baseship set, and Moore suggesting they do something to make the film relevant to it's release in between seasons 3 and 4, and suggesting word-for-word "Kara Thrace is the Harbinger of Death, she will lead them all to their end" line.
    It was also nice to get some First Cylon War action, and see those old ships and designs a bit updated. Nice as the modern Centurions are, I kinda prefer that classic look. Wish we saw them more.
    Watching Season 4 with you guys should prove veeery interesting.
    Oh yeah, the 7, now 6 refers to the fact that D'anna was... or will be Boxed. I'm not sure if the writers lost track of their timeline, or if that's the hybrid's mind being temporally fluid. Anyways, we know the 7 cylons. Although I like the idea of an unknown Cylon beyond the 5, that'd be some intriguing addition to the lore, but I dunno if they'd have enough room in the one season they have left to do anything with that.

    I found it interesting how the actor for the First Hybrid (Campbell Lane) also played a fairly similar character in 1999's video game Homeworld. There he voices the Bentusi, a race of aliens similarly integrated with their spaceships as the Cylon Hybrids are.

    I watched the series when it first came out, so everything was seen in order. I love Razor, its one of my favorite BSG lore episodes. It gives you a new perspective on Cain and the crews actions, why they are who they are. Tough situations turned them into razors. You understand why Cain has such a hatred towards the Cylons, starting from her childhood only to suffer the ultimate betrayal in her adult life when her lover was a skin job. Kendra was awesome. You see her start off as a simple individual who used her time in the service as an advancement only to become hardened by what happen with the fall of the Twelve Colonies and basically became Cain's protege.

  • @jacquelinejacobson6789
    @jacquelinejacobson6789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Cain didn't have to execute a close officer for refusal to follow and order. Im sure she realized that humanity's left over population was bare thread low. She could have locked him up in the brig. She also wasn't forced to pillage, execute and abandon defenseless civilians. Razor shows just how degraded she had become. Imo, she makes Baltar look like a guardian angel!

    • @mitchellmelkin4078
      @mitchellmelkin4078 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jacquelinejacobson6789, She might have chosen differently, but I believe the XO made an error in judgment, even though he tried to voice his objection relatively quietly by crossing over to her side of the island. However, the order wasn't an illegal one, just potentially greatly foolish and harmful. After stating his concerns, as he had already done, he should have just resigned his post, removed his sidearm on his own, and asked the Sergeant of the Guards to take him to the brig. By doing something like that, he might have defused Cain's carrying out her object lesson.
      The bottom line is that the decision wasn't his to make, especially during a dire state of wartime, and making his reservations known, should have fully satisfied his duty and conscience, without taking it further once it was clear Cain wasn't going to be swayed.

      @mitchellmelkin4078 ปีที่แล้ว

      @donpietruk1517 , Materially, I don't disagree with you. As I said, Belzen might have chosen to recognize that reality and commenced the process of turning himself in to be incarcerated.
      I'm not saying at all that Cain's action was justified by any military standards, our own, or those of our ancestors.
      Simply, as a practical matter, though, in the moment, the XO overestimated the bond he had forged with Cain (even after the war began), whatever mutual understanding he thought they had reached about dealing with such a tactical scenario (as he mentioned to her in the scene), and most importantly, how the stress of such an imminent and gravely threatening one would only likely harden Cain's already implacable resolve, beyond any limits.

    • @donpietruk1517
      @donpietruk1517 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mitchellmelkin4078 I can deal with that take on it. Cain had clearly passed the point of rational military thinking into an unhealthy "if you're not with me you're against me and are a threat that must be eliminated" mentality. The best commanders use their XO's as a sounding board and if there are objections this strong it usually should give pause. Her personal trauma, betrayal by 6, and war PTSD had basically made her decision making toxic at this point.

      @donpietruk1517 , You're on the mark!!!
      I wonder what you make of Starbuck's public valedictory remarks about Cain? Do you think she was being on the level in the seeming praise? Perhaps, though one wouldn't expect of it from Starbuck, she was being political in deferring from uttering any negatively critical impressions for the benefit of the Pegasus' crew who remained steadfast in their positive regard for Cain.

    When we, being fans of the original BSG, saw the "First War" Cylon Raiders, Centurions, Basestars and Mark 1 Vipers, the room erupted in cheers of happiness and "no way! No frakkin' way!" since we never expected to see the original designs in this show,...aside from the one Centurion we saw in the museum case on Galactica's starboard flight pod (when she was being decommissioned in the pilot for this series).

    When I heard that Australian voice I was pretty sure it was Stephany Jacobsen then was confirmed when we got a straight shot of her face. She is a one of a kind on American television, an Australasian. There are plenty of Australasians in Australia, but to my knowledge she's the only one to make it here as an actor. She is fantastic at playing fanatical hardass officers.
    She also played one on season 2 of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Which would be a great show for you to watch. There are a bunch of people you might recognize: Lena Headey from GOT as Sarah, Summer Glau from Firefly as the good Terminator, Brian Austin Green as Derek (Kyle's brother) Reese, Dean Winters from OZ, SVU, and a bunch of commercials appear in season two along with Shirley Manson and her flaming red hair from Garbage.
    They also use a contortionist to great effect in one episode, I won't spoil it, you will know it when you see it.
    Highly recommended, and it only runs 31 episodes because it was a victim of the 2008 writer's strike.

    It was fun to watch your reaction video. It's been years since I saw Razor and so have forgotten a few things. What stood out seeing it again was the poetic riddles uttered by the hybrids in the show. Their verses are strange, but in the context of the show they are emphasizing the actual philosophical arc of the series. And it is unwise to take their terms literally. The phrase "Kara is the Herald of the Apocalypse" and again calling her the "Harbinger of Death" means different things depending on the circumstances.
    I think people who have not paid attention to these moments get irritated at the end of the series. To me, the end of Battlestar Galactica encapsulates everything ever said by the Hybrids, just not in the exact way we expect. Because we've identified the humans in this show as "us" here and now. But that is not true.

    I think one of the really important scenes in Razor that often gets overlooked is the short but important conversation between Gaius and Six during the inspection of the downed Cylon Raider. Six gives important context on why the cylons gave themselves biological human bodies. It was actually never about infiltration. It was about getting closer to god. Understanding what god propably wants them to be and to do. Ascension.

      Yeah, I think Cavil and Helo are the two stand outs on the good/bad spectrum. But to make a case for Cavil. You hear in his final speech what he wants and how it hurts him not to have it. He hates his human body. That's not an evil motivation. It's how he's dealt with that pain that has led him to do evil things. The root of his badness is insecurity and weakness.

    The disk Raiders are based on the classic Raiders from the 1978 series. What bummed me about this version is that they *still had 2 pilots!!* Why?
    Galactica & Pegasus teaming up in an assault against a Cylon stronghold is a plot borrowed from the classic episode "The Living Legend," which introduced the legendary Commander Cain & his daughter Lt. Sheba. Cain wanted to attack the munitions dump on the enslaved planet Gamoray. To their surprise, their attack caught the Cylon Imperious Leader on the surface!
    Obviously, a lot is different between the two series, even the origin of the Cylons & nature of the war. This new version added a lot to the overall story as well as the mythos of the reboot.
    I saw the original version when it aired, & asked for the DVD for Christmas. They had both versions on the DVD: the aired one & the Extended one. The Extended one gives a lot more insight into Cain's backstory. I like it better.
    When you finish with the series, don't forget the second movie: Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. It follows young William Adama on his first mission as a pilot. It's another glimpse of the First Cylon War.

    For the TOP reaction couple (at least I've ever seen), you didn't say so directly here, but what was your opinion of Stephanie Jacobsen's performance as Kendra Shaw? Do you think the movie was really pretty much just as much her story, as it was Cain's? I found the actor was compelling in this role. She hasn't had a career arc that's brought her wide recognition, but she's been in a helluva lot of genre films and shows.
    Also, why do you think the Hybrid jammed communications to Pegasus, hence not allowing Shaw to transmit the entirety of his warning? Obviously, we can fathom an apparent and straightforward reason driving the storyline, but in-universe what makes sense to you, as to his sudden about face?
    By the way, get better soon, you two!!!

These moments are actually better viewed as "forshadowing" about Kara because you don't quite understand the context of the story regarding the Harbringer of death at that early point of S2, to really peace together what he is talking about and there for it adds more of a suprising element and a mystery to the series. Also the scenes in this movie are more relevent to Season 2's pegesus arc with the added hint for things to come. That is just my opinion, some BSG fans might back me up on that.

      I didn't realize it was such a divisive subject, but I agree with you. I liked Razor a lot the first time it aired, but it felt weird jumping back to late season 2 at that point. It already felt like a lost episode that got aired too late somehow, so I think it plays way better where it fits in the timeline. That's where I put it when I rewatch the series, and I always recommend that to friends watching the show for the first time. the tank tops are standard military issue for everyone. No matter which branch you serve, whether pilot of bridge officer or even deck hand it's a standard top. Even Tyrol wears one and so does Admiral Adama. They wear it because A) it's standard military and B) the don't really have much choice. There's not "real" market that fabricates clothing. There may be something small and handmade in the civilian market, but there's no factory that pumps out unlimited new clothes. whatever clothing they have is washed very frequently. I'd say the fleet has a laundry service on pretty much each ship and that they coordinate for the ships that don't; like say the Tillium processing ship or the ship that processes their food and water. I doubt THOSE ships have the facilities so there's likely a pickup and delivery system in place for laundry. I mean I doubt the military or Government people do their own laundry every single day.

    The old-school Cylon Raiders and Basestars are almost exact replicas of the ones from the original show, except that they all used lasers, not bullets. The old-school Cylons on the other hand, are quite a bit more mechanical than the originals. The original Cylons were played by performers in costume, which was basically a black suit, with the helmet, chest plate, backpack and some arm/leg armor added on top of it. It looked decent enough in low lighting, but when they showed them in bright light in an episode of Galactica 1980 (HORRIBLE series!), they looked pretty bad.
