    I remember playing Space Harrier on Shenmue. It was amazing to play an arcade game inside a game. Inception!

      Ninja-X3 this is everything. You can also experience this idea briefly during the halftime show in “blades of steel”

    Remember playing Space Harrier in the mid-eighties at my local arcade Circuit Circus. My friends and I would walk for 45 minutes with one or two dollars of coins. Space Harrier was great, I would play it but it was 50 cents. I loved the game and really enjoyed it on the Sega Master System growing up in Canada.

    I've been watching some Space Harrier videos and I've been puzzling over how nostalgic the music is to me - even though I never played the game much. Then when I was humming it, I switched to the Blakes 7 theme in the middle. Aha! I watched the heck out of Blakes 7 though multiple rerun runs.

    I think the Space Harrier game was also inspired from the epic fantasy movie "The Neverending Story". You can hear the similarity of the musical soundtrack between the game's main theme and the movie's "Happy Flight" theme, also about the scene where our hero character rides the dragoncat Uriah in the Bonus Stages, just like Atreyu and Bastian rides Falkor in the sky.

    Wait, wait, wait...homing missle system?! What? You don't have missles in any of the original Space Harrier games. Are you saying the bullets from Harrier's gun home in on his enemies? If so how is that possible and I have never noticed them doing this before. I have been a Space Harrier player since...1987 or 1988 and I have played/owned/own them all. In all my years of playing the game I have never seen the bullets home in on anything before.
    At any rate, this was absolutely fantastic! You my friend have earned a new sub.
    Addendum- The Sega Genesis can in fact do sprite scaling. Many games were released during the Genesis's lifespan that featured all types of different tricks that were thought impossible. This was done nit by hardware but with software solutions.

    • @aprildenham5376
      @aprildenham5376 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually tell when a shot is going to home in; it makes a kind of "tink" noise.

    At my local arcade SH was right next to Tron and across from Vs. Super Mario Bros. My cousin had the NES and I wasn't that impressed because I had a C64. When I heard of this new Sega Master System I thought, "If I want SH I need a SMS because Nintendon't won't have it." Among the best decisions I made as a kid.

    No doubt about it. ELO's Twilight for the soundtrack? Rick Dom's as showcase enemies? Jetpack wearing protagonist who fires a million macross style missles at pop-culture icons in a psychedelic dreamscape?
    Yep. Space Harrier is Daicon 4.

    I would love if Planet Harriers got a port. Emulation for the Hikaru board is so bad that it even interferes with gameplay on many occasions, not to mention that the graphical quality of these games takes a nosedive. On top of that, these games are becoming harder to find because of how fragile this board is. I honestly think there's forgotten/hidden gems on the Hikaru board that are too good to be forgotten.

    • @RookerVision
      @RookerVision  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Planet Harriers deserves a home release. The Switch would be a great platform for it.
