      It has nothing to do with the sport, it is how you were raised or advised/educated in your journey to the top. Look at guys like Stipe, Wonderboy, Khabib. They are well behaved because they were raised well and they kept their feet on the ground when success came along. You can put guys like Conor, Jones in any sport and they will still fuck things up.

    Demetrious should've been an easy sell for the UFC. He's good at speaking and it would've been easy to sell his story. He just wasn't a jerk and wasn't into the trash talking that the UFC is known for. I feel it's partly why fighting sports gets a bad rep by people not familiar in it. This is just what I've noticed when talking to my family about it. They think of Connor McGregor immediately. I think it's getting better, but yeah, remember for awhile the face of the UFC was a guy who punched an old man in the face.

      What's crazy is that DJ actually plays the UFC games, the thing behind probably what's a larger chunk of their revenue then PPVs. They could've had him sell those just by publicising that a fucking UFC Champion plays their game but instead they fumbled who knows how much $$$ out of some dumb hang up.

    • @significantstrike-nd8cs
      @significantstrike-nd8cs ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nah, this is always the take people have about DJ, they believe UFC never boosted him because he wasnt a controversial, trash talking, heel, that he was too nice or respectful. Well, Thats bullsh**t because being a trash talker or a loudmouth scumbag or some type of heel character doesnt necessarily mean you will be an automatic superstar in the UFC or anywhere else.
      There are PLENTY of fighters who have been successful all while being respectful, professional, mild mannered athletes. If you didnt know that, then you dont really watch much mma. Its not like the UFC didnt try, they put him on ppv’s, they put him as a headliner, they put him in commercials they did a whole TUF season featuring him as the flyweight king that was going to face the best champion from other organizations but nobody cared. Why? Not because he wasnt a trash talker but in my personal opinion it was cause he was really bad at making the audience care.
      His attitude to every fight was basically “its whatever, no big deal, i dont care if i win or lose,its just another fight” and i think he had that attitude because he just didnt like working for UFC and having all the press obligations.
      DJ downplayed his fights so much that why would you expect anyone to tune in? In ONE he doesnt do much press or media and likely isnt pressured to do so, im sure thats something he really appreciates amd makes him feel its a better place for him.

    • @uriel6374

      He's a good guy and a great fighter but he doesn't know how to sell fights. I mean Dana literally tried to abandon the flyweight div until Moreno and figueoredo shows up and make the div alive again. It's unfortunate that during DJ's reign he and the other top flyweights don't know how to market themselves and their fights are not exciting for the overall viewers. So what do you do? You have one of the greatest fighter of all time that nobody cares to watch in a div that dana is about to abandon and on top of that dj is at a point in his career where he has the right to demand big money. In the end they choose to let him go and its not a loss for the UFC because moreno and figueoredo happens after that.

Massive respect for what the other man is capable if and what he's been through. This rivalry is incredible. Thank you for creating this riveting film. I know quite a few folks that only really got into MMA after McGregor-Khabib and I'll talk their ear off about how the GOAT discussion comes down to Fedor, GSP, Silva and Mighty Mouse. Far too many have never even heard of Johnson which is crazy to me since he's still fighting in a major promotion. And the fact that ONE puts fights on Prime for free when so many people already have Prime, there's no excuse to not check him out.

It was like a glimpse into the heartfelt brutal truth of the fight game, also the video for me just goes to show how one door closes and another one opens.
