In Pokémon anime, Ash's Litten was initially raised by its foster parent Stoutland (another pokémon of species different to Litten). After Stoutland's death due to a prolonged illness, Ash took Litten in his team and raised him. Stoutland's death was heartbreaking for Litten, Ash and everyone who watched the episode.
