Dofus on pc is what really got me into tactical games, the gameplay, the universe,it's all amazing. I wish they would mak some kind of console version or a new tactical game set in this universe. As a french boy i'm very proud of thay game
You should try watching Wakfu, it's really well made actually, and I especially recommend listening to it in the original French Dub. Also so that you'll pronounce Dofus correctly. I mean that in jest tho really happy to see some more love for a few of Ankama's games!
I started playing in 2005 on pc. I was there when Oto island launched. And when frigost launched. And my fondest memory was playing with friends from school and staying up for days on end trying to get good rolls on the cawwot dofus. My first one dropped with 15wis. I was mad. But we kept grinding. Finally got one with 38 wis and called it good. I also farmed dark Vlad till I dropped the emerald dofus and rember a guy In the guild offered me 100$ for it. Good times. Jokes on you, I got into proper turn based rpgs like that thanks to Ankamas game! First played dofus, then Dofus Touch when it released, followed it with Wakfu, and now I’m taking a liking at Fire Emblem! These three games also got me to enjoy the combat aspect of TTRPGs, so I know that these games are good, they forged my tastes :D It’s a nice sponsorship you got. Glad you’re also enjoying the game.
Two questions: - How is it monetized? You said that there's not microtransaction gating, but what do they do instead? - Does it make demands on your time? My number one criteria for a mobile game (well, this goes for any game really, but mobile games are far more likely to be a problem) is that there's no expectation that I'm going to play it regularly or at certain times or anything of that nature.
- there are microtransactions, you can buy any item in the game with cash but 1) it would be so ridiculously expensive for high levels that no one does it 2) you're better off gaining money in game which can be quite fast. Other than that MT are mostly for cosmetics and services (change class, reset stats etc which there are also free ways to do) - there are daily quests and missions but they are entirely optional. Been playing for 6 years and I only do them when I have time. You won't lose on a lot if you miss them and there are no streak bonuses (you can start one day and resume a few days later). Keep in mind that this is originally a pc mmo adapted to mobile, there is enough content not to lock you behind a paywall :)
I spend $2 a month on Dofus Touch for extra XP and Loot and it's one of the only things I use for entertainment so I'm easily one of the most frugal people ever. haha. When I was struggling to put food on the table and pay rent with little income, Dofus was there to make being happy super cheap. Also, it's nice to at least be rich in a different universe. haha
Oh cool, more ankama content ! Now is time to see, how many time will people need to understand how the the classes name were made. Pretty hard when you don't speak french... but certain classes really help, like cra. And other makes you be like "wtf", like osamodas. Eh, pretty accurate with it's ability too ig...
I was a fan of Wakfu as a horny little preteen, but I never was able to get into the rpg It always hit me as the type of game that wouldve benefitted from a tutorial that pushes you into yhe story instead of plopping you straight into the open world and saying have fun not affording these pets and cosmetics But that could also be through the rose tinted glasses of a decade ago so who knows, maybe its gotten better over time
And the wakfu animated series was produced partially by ankama, by the french national TV and zlso partially crowdfunded,netflix partially produced only a season and the ovait's not really a nerflix series.
