@@theillmeister Here's their statment: "Here's a fun one. Back in 2005, we were invited to perform on the legendary Top of the Pops television show. Growing up in the UK, it was always one of those shows that you'd watch every week with your family and friends to check out the charts and catch some new music, and of course whoever was Number One at the time. It was always one of those things where, if you told people that you were 'in a band' back then - you'd often be asked (in a sarcastic tone) 'Ooooh. Have you been on Top Of The Pops yet??'. Well yeah, that one time - we were 😆 No matter how much we accomplished, how many records we sold or how many countries we toured in - the fact that we were on TOTP was the thing that made our friends and family back home really perceive us as "making it". Such holidays in the sun don't come without sacrifices though (name that tune) - and, as per every other performer on TOTP, we had to play along to a backing track. Yup - miming. I should clarify - the band/instruments were on track, but Matt and G were allowed to sing. It's all about it sounding good at home, you see. I guess there's too much room for error when performannces are going out LIVE on prime time to millions of homes. That's just how it was. We did wrestle with that for a minute, but decided it was too good an opportunity to pass up. And it sure was fun, and nice thing to have on the resume. Anyway, enjoy the tightest and best sounding FFAF performance of all time 😆 Fun fact - also on this show was the debut TV appearance from a young fella named James Blunt, with his breakthrough single 'You're Beautiful'. You don't have to watch that, though. Over and out."
This is surreal. To all the people saying they are posers. Sometimes bands sign contracts. Sometimes they might include agreements with advertisement. Perhaps they had to follow these rules. It's Top Of The Pops and it's music. Who really gives a shit if it was a one off. Nobody was ripped off of a live show.
dude, i've seen this band live and they can nail this song (any of their songs) no problem. i don't see them as posers at all. i'm sure there were reasons for switching live audio tracks with pre-recorded, but it doesn't take away from their performance capabilities as a band. you're sounding like a poser for discrediting the band over 1 performance you dislike.
Just because you know 1 person who played on it and lip sync'd doesn't mean everyone else does ;) Plus hardly anyone would go on knowing they're telling them all to lip sync. And the vocals are obviously live on this tbh
The guitars are definatly not being played live. At 56 seconds in when the guitarist is playign the finger tapping lead part he then goes straight into the rythm guitar. However the note he played before hand stays ringing regardless of the fact that he is not playing it anymore.
it would help if the drums and guitar amps were mic'ed up for a start, the vocals are live, but im afraid the intruments are not. ive been to a similar top of the pops thing and its all pre recorded apart from the vocals, sorry to disapoint
@TeaPips "wtf are they doing on TOTP?" Being better than all the other crap that was usually on there ;) The only reason TOTP died was people stopped buying music that was this damn good. I mean, as soon as R&B, Rap and Dance became the norm in the pop chart it became nearly impossible for TOTP to stay as good as it was in terms of showcasing acts that are great live, and only those that are popular on CDs
this was for Top of The Pops, it's a pre recorded, heavily edited pop show for tweens. Nirvana played it once and got told to lip sync - look it up, it's pretty funny!
i'm saying you don't have the slightest idea why they chose to use a backing track. it could've been forced by the show. you ever thought about that? he's really singing live, so your ashley simpson comparison doesn't even apply here. i still have no idea why they would be considered posers by you if you've seen them perform all this shit live 7 times.
Ahh.... the good old days when actual bands & Musicians performed on TOTP. none of that rap, hip-hop, r'n'b & garage stuff, I have no idea why UK music trended towards those genre's some hip-hop & r n'b is pretty good though but garage music.....why??
The band just shared this on their FB page, with a nice story, in case anyone was curious about how it happened.
Awesome!!

great performance.
The moment of the hand claps always gives me goosebump.

Top of the pops always had backing track to a live singer or mime. It's just the way it was. Bands has to agree to appear.
Vocals are live.

the fangirls just scream when signs the bassist !!
Garath Davis. I don't think he's in the band anymore though
@@MrDeadhead83 He was and still is, but he's playing guitar now.
das antigas!
From the sound of it the girls are really into Garath
...didnt know these were around when top of the pops was last on, when did that stop coming on tele?
it would help if the drums and guitar amps were mic'ed up for a start, the vocals are live, but im afraid the intruments are not. ive been to a similar top of the pops thing and its all pre recorded apart from the vocals, sorry to disapoint
@DakkstarDarkling manics did it too with you love us. check out nicky wire licking james's guitar and sean leaning on his kit...

i think its somewhere around that time when Hours was released
Well yeah as this song is from hours! 🙄
lol Slipknot were on ToTP too xD I tihnk they did Duality.
for those who think the music is live.. amps turned off, drum kit's not mic'd, all i need to say!
1:03
i think matt dont need to lip sync or even back track ;)
FFAF 4EVER!
Man, they cut the intro right in half. People get bored after 3 minutes apparently.
this was for Top of The Pops, it's a pre recorded, heavily edited pop show for tweens. Nirvana played it once and got told to lip sync - look it up, it's pretty funny!
I think you mean outro, but yes, TOTP was a bizarre show looking back on it.
i'm saying you don't have the slightest idea why they chose to use a backing track. it could've been forced by the show. you ever thought about that? he's really singing live, so your ashley simpson comparison doesn't even apply here.

1:12 Failure of epic proportions.
What failure?
You mean the happy clapper? 😂
My thoughts exactly! =|
looks like a recorded performance, except for the vocals of course ^_^
Ahh.... the good old days when actual bands & Musicians performed on TOTP. none of that rap, hip-hop, r'n'b & garage stuff, I have no idea why UK music trended towards those genre's some hip-hop & r n'b is pretty good though but garage music.....why??
Oh my god I agree with everything in this comment.. Great minds Huh
