Maybe not wanting to play ball with the big labels? There was a massive shift in tone and quality after the hours album. Still some good tracks but it dropped off hugely after that in my opinion
@@David-nd4to Even with Hours that was due to the record company making them change to a more accessible sound. A lot of the original demos for Hours were a lot heavier than the album. Tales Don't Tell Themselves was more Matt wanting to experiment with a different sound rather than the record company (His solo stuff is more in line with that album)
I like this even more than the album version. That one always sounds far to compressed and a bit lifeless. I always want it to blow my head of when Matt comes in but the compression just makes it a let down. Still FFAF for ever.

one of the best demos/alternative tracks in the last 15 years it's odd a band this good didn't get a bigger mainstream push
