  • In this video, I allow you to hear what these microphone preamps sound like on a vocal. In the first half of the video, I just speak through the AT4040 using each of these preamps and at the end of the video, I give you samples of both on a rap vocal.

    Dope! I haven't ventured into the 500 series units as of yet, but that AT4040 is one of my favorite mics that I've used before. Sounds extra nice through that B12.

    This video helped. I think the B12A is the winner. That low end!

    Awesome review! The B12A definitely has some low-mid range bite to it that seems to cut through a little more. That's where that extra $200 goes. I can see how both could be used in different ways.

    Idk how people can sleep so much. You put out gems. I think it’s mostly because it is comparison vids. I think a lot of people especially rappers are more into learning how to mix their own songs. Maybe you can have tutorials on how to EQ, Compress... etc. you definitely have a vast array of music equipment. You can even do tutorials that make a “ OK “ mic sound just as good or close to a “ very expensive “ mic.

    Just came to say I've been in the market for the desktop b173 or auteur. In my research I've got hip to 500 racks. Now I'm in the market for the same lindell chassis u got and the autuer 500. I didn't love the really nice compressor but I didn't hate it. 500 compressors seem to be a Lil pricy so budget might be a wave

      Gotcha! Yeah, most 500 series gear holds it’s value pretty well

    Great comparison. B12 sounds smoother, beefier... I wonder how the B12A mkII would compare to the SSL Six CH 500 strip and Cranborne Camden 500 preamp...$349 to 399...

      I know their interface isn't the greatest but I'd probably say they got the preamp game on smash. Black lion

    What would you recommend more? Im struggling between b12a or gap 73. I dont know which one would be better for rap, some rnb, and upfront clean vocal. My mic is now rode nt1a but later i think sm7b would be good for me.

    • @CLEANMUDVIDEOS
      @CLEANMUDVIDEOS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think with the thinner sound of the nt1a, the 73 style preamp would bring a bit more body and roundness to that mic.

    i used to like a lot of color and saturation... kinda dislike it now. i have a BLA B173.... gonna try out a auteur. I had the b12a mk1 but sold it for a b173. no linger like the 173
    thank you Boss!

      I want a b173 but I have no experience with color and Idk if I'd like it. I understand the autuer is the only clean preamp black lion offers. But these pieces of equipment that give that saturation and color seem to be held in very high regard

    • @CLEANMUDVIDEOS
      @CLEANMUDVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@4brotroydavis it definitely depends on the sound you desire. Color can get in the way sometimes.

    • @4brotroydavis
      @4brotroydavis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CLEANMUDVIDEOS I think I'm gonna go autuer for the clean sound for starters and see how I like that and if I desire color I'll know where to go...thanks for all ye vids bro. Whatever you decide to do with these channels and with your knowledge I'll be tuned it... authenticity over everything family

    When the artists is dope it don't matter what preamp is used. To him these are just tools. The real magic comes from your vocal.
