if you close your eyes you can hear her (the strings) telling the story and you can feel his (the brass) passion for more. Truly a great piece of music.

I too, remember mum playing the LP on our music centre in 60s, 70s. We now play it to relax to and have the lovely memories of our childhood.

My mum`s favourite piece of music, The Young Prince & The Young Princess. She had placed her 3 daughters on the violin, hoping one day one of us would take it up, and none of us did ... hence no violin solos of Scheherazade by her daughters, only the LP on her music system.
The violin solo part made me cry....

These are only the third and fourth movements of a four-movement symphonic suite. If you like this, listen to the whole thing. Rimsky-Korsakov builds the entire work which is about 40 minutes from whole or fragments of his two leitmotifs, one for Shahrzad (Scheherazade) and one for the mentally deranged king which she brings back to sanity after 1001 nights of story telling!
