    I understand this is PADI curriculum… we should however teach to use the spare octo until we can recover our primary one.

      The whole point of this skill is to recover your primary one. Furthermore, the octo is a backup for kit malfunction or buddy low on air.

      Yes I know!
      In the mean time while I’m not able to breathe. There’s nothing wrong with my spare octo. Why not use the spare octo until you have recovered the primary octo. I wanted more of a discussion, now if your buddy is buddy breathing off your octo, there’s already multiple things that have failed

      Look at how RAID does it. Neutraly buoyant and with using the spare octo.
      A useful skill to learn.
