    Nice fix, Iv'e got a Pioneer SX 636 that one channel is out, this would be a lovely easy fix, but seeing other videos pointing out capacitors needing change, sounds like a Siilvertone Guitar Amp I have that needs some TLC. Good Video.

    Yep they do take a bit of adjustment.
    Making the contacts both touch at the same time and flex slightly usually does the job :-D.
    But the contact materal can play up.

    I agree with your repair. If it can be repaired with simple fix it’s worth it. I’ve some old nad 2200pe’s I’m using as mono blocks. So I have 4x speaker relays to keep in check. The ones on those models are notoriously bad. There is a fix but requires enlarging the push through holes on the board to get the new ones to fit. It is a long term solution as new relays are sealed and require no maintenance. Still one in a while I clean the contacts of the relays with brasso and paper. Gets the oxidation out. Contact cleaner is not a fix just gums them up and your back to punch through sound. Which is extremely unhealthy for the amps and speakers. Mind when operating 100% they are some damn fine sounding amplifiers that really kick ass

    The 1st thing i always check is the tape monitor outs, Immediately negates everything before that stage. Some older amps, the headphones would work at minimal output. That leaves the output.

    I have a JVC AK300 where the right channel intermittently going in and out, any ideas? It will self correct if i turn the volume up or in a couple hours it will turn on the right channel, not even the VU meter shows any output, is it in my pre amp section?

    Excellent repair as always. Relays are always trouble items in electronics but they are necessary.

      Well, always trouble if you "fix" one with glue instead of spending $4 on a replacement, I guess. ;-P

    Greetings, I have a circa 1976, Yami ca600/ct800 stack running a pair of boston acoustics A150’s which still sound f’n amazing…..
    I did have to replace the foam woofer surrounds years back and so glad I did, outstanding 3-ways IMO.
    However, I believe my relay is hosed and wound appreciate a complete omron p/n. Located in Oregon, US and mouser has 120 ‘ly2’ results to choose from, lookin for the exact replacement… thx.

    Hey m8, how do you test if a TDA 7261 ic is working? all the other channels on my 5.1 amp work apart from the subwoofer channel, i hear very faint hiss but no audio at all, as the amp is full of TDA ic's the mono sub channel is based on the 7261, cheers.

    I’m trying to hook up my center speaker, but I’m getting no sound when plugged in if I plug it into a different channel it plays if I leave the black cable in the center channel and plug the positive cable in a different channel it works. What do you think it is solely that positive channel?

    No doubt it'll be back in another six months then! That relay surely can't take too many more bodges.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the relay fails again then one will have to be ordered in, but paying 20.00 for shipping is ridicules. The US postal system really bends you guys over don't they?
      Had a VCR shipped up from the states for repair. Cost the owner 86.00 US to send to me, only cost me 59 Canadian to ship back. Something is wrong with this picture.

      Well it hasn't come e back and it has been years. It is a regular customer that i do lots of work for, so had it been a problem it would have come back but it works and continues to work.

    • @frac
      @frac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. How much money is saved when the poor owner has to bring it back in a couple of months? I don't call that "fixed", I call that "diagnosed and left broken".

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Relay is fine. If it acts up again I will have order one in but it should be just fine as the contacts are not pitted or burned.
      I looked up the original Omron part number on Mouser.com and they want 20.61 plus 20.00 shipping to Canada. So we are talking 40.61 for a stupid relay? Would you pay that? Didn't think so. The local electronics parts store closed up shop, and the one that is left has to order all the specialty parts so we are talking weeks to get anything.

    • @tlrptg
      @tlrptg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's an MX2PO Omron relay, for 12 volts. two pairs of normally open contacts. try a G2R-2A-12DC , made by Omron, it costs 3 $ in Europe, it must be a lot cheaper in Canada.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it is an LY2 series

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Owned by a friend, repaired for free. If the part was available locally that is one thing, but when it has to be shipped from the excited states, and they charge 20.00 to ship out a 10.00 part that is highway robbery.

    can you not use PIN diodes as a switch instead of using a stupid mechanical Rely.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. This relay is speaker protection to physically disconnect speakers so that no DC is presented to speakers during start up, and shut down of amp. It will also cut off is fault is detected in amp circuit.

  • @richmiller9844
    @richmiller9844 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should have replaced it to begin with.
    The fact that you band-aided it AGAIN is embarrassing. Someone paid to have it Fixed not glued or epoxied.
    Replace it and apologize to the customer.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Customer wanted it fixed for 20.00 so he could flog it on ebay. Not putting a 20.00 relay in when I am making 20.00. I can't charge him more then the limit which is what i get. I don't know what planet you are on but nobody wants to pay anything to fix old electronics.

      If you were in England I'd gladly pay you good money to look at my aiwa 8700 amp.The left channel doesn't work initially,then after about 1hr it starts working perfectly.What do you think,could it be a relay or 1 of a hundred other things?
