October 2023 - some of you have asked me to do an update tutorial, BUT I look on the latest download page and I see Holdi has done a proper series of your TH-cam tutorials. You mentioned that ED would eventually come out with a means to map/initialize controller set up (at 1:36 into your video).
Unfortunately, this issue still holds true, and is exactly why I do not play this simulation anymore. I haven't been able to do ANYTHING constructive in DCS so far!
Oh, and the Mission Editor/Olympus is infuriatingly difficult and glitchy. I have no idea how you make ME run so seamless on your videos!

I can't overstate how useful this is for DCS. Holdi, you have taken a great deal of frustration out of the little recreation time I have. Thank you very much and keep up the good work!
For anyone who has several modules and is on the fence about installing this: do it. While there will still be little airframe-specific controls this program can't account for, this handles 90% of the workload of setting up a new module and is a huge relief.

sort of ironic that when I found a noob (like myself) on the forum asking for binding advice, most answers were: 'dude, map your own bindings you'll know them better' - which is true but ppl forget the BIGGEST issue for noobs setting up Hotas controls is WE ARE AFRAID WE ARE MAKING BAD CHOICES. For eg - I barely new what 'trim' or a 'hat' even were - let alone that 99% of aircraft use the stick hat to adjust trim and that is a good place to bind it.

Usually a good place to start with bindings, is to look where the buttons are on the original design.
After a couple of aircraft, you'll ignore those details and favor the settings you learned from your first few aircraft. 😁
Looks amazing and I really hope this works as well as it seemed to for you Cap. Binding for each individual plane is an utter nightmare. Why ED couldn't have added common binds in this way is beyond me! I will try it tomorrow and hopefully be able to fly all the modules I've bought (FC3 plus all modern jets except the Jeff, and 3 WW2 props).

I've just yesterday received my new joystick. I was dreading the job of rebinding everything, this wideo and app is just in time.
This should help players greatly! Got a friend who wants to get back into DCS but can't be bothered to set up controls again (lol). I told them to backup the controls folder, but alas they wiped their drives to use them in the new PC build and lost it all...

Eagle Dynamics is the best Fighter simulator in the world. Why can't they just include a program that detects your HOTAS and automatically maps it, with a realistic military configuration? I mean what they do is some really insanse stuff. You would think that would be easy for them.
I agree ...I'm new to DCS ...binding everything took me DAYS to get it all close to right ...then out of nowhere it was all lost.
As much as I like DCS ...the second time will see me drop out of DCS ...it is far too expensive to have this performance ...& like you said ...WHY is it up to a third party to fix? I left MSFS for similar reasons. Lockheed Martins Prepared III will be my next sim if this continues.

Yep, .... I have experienced low level boredom from MFS2020 and am looking for a more exciting flight simulator at the moment. Have been a fan of DCS for many years, however, have not spent many hours on it due to hotas setup difficulties. I am once again struggling with setup issues after convincing myself to purchase the F18 Hornet. Same frustration is emerging. Thank you for your guide through the madness. I will try to be patient, study your video, and be flying soon. I enjoy your videos very much and hope to be at your level at some point in the future. Cheers!
Good points... I used to be so much into DCS til I upgraded and got a new stick .. and it just takes so much time to relearn everything it becomes frustrating.

Brilliant, this is something I really needed, just got an X52 and this will help me get back into flying...
Fyi you can migrates the controls if you rename the profiles from the old guid to the new guid. Just use explorer to FIND the old joystick guid in the controller backup folder and rename it to the new value. You'll also want to use notepad ++ find and replace in files to update the guid in the modifier files. Repeat for each joystick or controller.

then we can finally devote our time to DCS flying in stead of DCS and PC thinkering :-)

Testing this for sure. What I would like tho, is a video from you guys, doing some internal research and telling us what you pro's arrive at for control schemes, for the given standard controls.
What type of button and on which control, why. That kinda thing, so that instead of setting something up and then as I learn the game finding it works like dog shit, but its in my memory now, I get to appreciate my controls as I learn. I'm sure there is some consensus on what goes where and for what reason, and I suspect most of the reasons are not sheer preference, but also how to use the hotas to its fullest potential, given its abundance or lack of buttons and switches and what not.
As an aside and a suggestion: if you would put configuration videos behind a paywall, where you basically go over every f-ing button for a module and provide a config file for it, I'd buy that to get into it faster. I've spent money on trackir (tobii) a HOTAS (T16000set) a graphics card to run DCS like not-a-potato, and I'm not flying cuz I basically am put off by having to first spend 3 hours configuring a module because it wont do shit otherwise. So yah, there's a market I'd say as I cant be the only lazy bastard. Combined with not knowing what is efficient, I procrastinate.

Edit Update: I was mistaken the app missed up very plane, thank me for backing up my F/A-18C profiles, they are 100% completed for my Winwing devices. Old Post: hmm, using the latest greatest version I was able to somewhat figure it out using your vid Cap, but for some reason planes like the A-10A didn't map at all. I did ensure it was selected in the list of DCS aircraft. Still not bad, hours upon hours might have still been saved. I do hope the developer keeps working on it. It's a great tool for us. One I feel should have been built into DCS.

My biggest challenge is not knowing enough about what need mapping, and do I need to open joypro everytime I launch the game to use the profile. In addition, I think I found a series of videos from the joypro developer that helped. Message me if interested as I don't want to promote anyone else material on this channel

Just found your vid Cap. Great info. The one thing you didn’t show, maybe not possible but the Joypro software seems to be only for those flying jets. How do you add things like prop pitch control, mixture, etc?
I am absolutely brand new to DCS. I've been going through your videos trying to learn as much as I can. So far I have downloaded and applied your settings for my x56. Would you recommend using this instead? Or is this how you made the files available to us?

Great software. One question - is it possible to properly configure TM Warthog throttle toggle switches as well with it (assign action of flipping the switch off)?

Thank you for the video. So I can use around 50% inside the templates....cause Im flying "vintage"planes. And the templates I tried are more for jets. (e.g. only 1 engine, fire guns/cannon, drop bombs, etc) But anyway...it helps for the main things

OMG ...thanks ...I just rebuilt my rig ...I DID have things working more or less. I went with Thrustmaster ...I'm programming 6 MFD's & the new TQS. & I'm new to DCS & actually had most of the button bindings done & working. Then ...without even closing DCS ...just changing aircraft caused everything to be lost. I mean EVERYTHING! The ONLY bindings shown on the ALL the peripherals are the keyboards. I gave it up for a break & research!!!
So when you select the option for JoyPro to clear out your DCS settings, I assume that it doesn’t mess with your keyboard binds?
I just started using this app, but it definitely takes a lot longer than your demo, because I didn’t have a template with all the relations already set up.
Setting up each relation takes about 10 minutes, because I had to go thru each aircraft.
Always good that community Devs are doing this, thumbs for these guys' hard work. While I can see it being a help for those with a lot of modules, I don't really think this is going to help out a new player. It's just adding another program on top of already things like Track IR, VR etc.. The average noob is gonna get one or 2 modules to start, the complexity comes in setting up controls as a lot of the binds are jibberish until you start understanding the systems of the birds and it is this general complexity that will see a lot of people quit early on. It's unfortunately a bit of a catch 22 situation.
while of course, I think all of us would welcome making the tedious setup tasks easier and quicker, the reality is If someone is quitting DCS because of the initial hurdles more than likely they would have quit even if the keybindings were all automatic and perfect, and that because they don't have the patience currently for DCS (or any aero sim).
the app was never advertised as "being great for beginners". like Cap says in his video, especially for "dcs veterans" who have loads of modules. beginners wont learn anything with this app. the learning will still have to be done via tutorials or written guides. it DOES however, shorten the time one spends setting things up

@@Johnny641 I mean aside from the installing if people want to provide profiles to their stick, others can get as close as a 3rd party to a plug and play solution as possible. One profile for your stick loaded with 2 clicks and all your controls for all the aircraft would be set. But for that I would need to have templates and or Profiles provided by people so I can push it on the git.

Outside of the A10 as I have a Warthog I generally prefer to do my own bindings based off of chucks guide. Perhaps Chucks bindings would be a good baseline as lots ref those guides ? At least for the Warthog.
What I found out early on was I would spend more time tweaking someone's profiles than it would take me to just do my own.

As a beginner I'm having fits getting any plane odd the ground because of I'm not having any understanding of controls setup this could be fantastic if it works
Works great but I have one problem, it does not set controls for the Spitfire for me...all other aircraft it works and what a time saver

Question: Cap - why do you backup the entire Config folder? I only backup the Input folder within the Config folder. I never saw the need for the other items in Config.
I think Config has game setting etc so no harm in also backing up.
This app just makes the already complicated even MORE complicated !
One thing that I noticed is that the wheel brakes on some planes are reversed. For the F15C, for example, with the Logitech Pro Rudders, you need to have the curve inverted. For the M2000C, on the other hand, you don't invert the curve. Is this program smart enough to recognize when the axis sign flips?

Hi, i recently bought a TM Warthog and i am brand new to flight SIMs, is this software still the best method for setting up controls ( i only ask as its a year old). i have tried a few .diff.lua files but have a few issues, such as with the throttle.
Unfortunately "clean existing binds and export" does not work well, it messes up my controls, old controls are still there somehow and it ads axes which i haven't even added , for example it makes warthog throttle mini joystick(that no one uses) mapped to pitch and roll and that ruins everything. I tried other export options, and tried to export almost empty relation but nothing can erase all existing binds, it just makes a lot of mess.
can't wait to install this program and my computer just die from all the malware. lol!!!!

About to get into DCS...
Everything shown in the video still should work, however the UI has added a lot of features which a lot of new users get surprised with. One you press the none button you need to move the axis or press the button you want to map
In JoyPro I can set a button as a modifier, but then when I go down to a relation I can't hold the modifier to map the combo. It either takes the unmodified button, or the modifier itself, depending on how I hold and release them. What's the workaround for that? I use modifiers heavily.
D'oh! Found it. It's a really bad UI, but it works. You have to go to the far right where the axis setup options are and choose the modifier from the first box there.
Is there any way to bind actual keys with this program? It seems to only work with joystick/HOTAS devices.

I'm a newbie to this software but after downloading the latest version (JoyPro_WinX64_v0085, Dec 2022) I'm not getting anything as straightforward as seen in your video. Instead of a self-explanatory list of control functions in the left column, like 'pitch, rol, rudder' etc, I have a confusing list in the left column which just shows a code for each joystick button, and i have to click a separate dropdown to see what it's actual function is. It's almost as if the creator has gone out of his way to make it as user-unfriendly as possible, unless I'm doing something wrong of course. I did notice there is a dedicated template now for Cap's X-56 controls, which would be perfect for me since I've already tried configuring most of my controls to Cap's according to a previous video on this channel, but it doesn't appear to have helped much.
I need to find a more up-to-date tutorial for recent versions, but the only other one I can find (from the creator himself) is impossible to view at the video resolution he's using, and really hard to follow.
I was really hoping this would save a lot of headaches, but it's ending up more trouble than it may be worth. If anyone with an up-to-date version could give some useful pointers I'd be very grateful.

Looks incredibly helpful. We've been crying out for this for some time now. Just one thing, I can't add any relations in. No matter which one I try to add, the program just crashes out. (I know it's beta, just saying.)

Quick question, what about button modifiers? i.e. shift+ button 1 or pinkie button + button 4. I dont have VR so like to have view and trim control on the same hat switch
If you have existing ones in DCS they shouldn't be overwritten. Setting up modifiers is not >yet< possible. As I don't know how i should introduce that.Oh and if you see me it mentioning it on github i call them reformers as thats what they are called in the input Lua files
But i can focus on it, once i have some time on how to implement it :3

hey i know this is silly question but are these settings for all joysticks and will it work with Logitech x56 joystick as i have recently bought myself logitech x56 with throttle and pedals am waiting for the pedals and am currently trying to setup the throttle and joystick on dcs worlds but when am in the game it self in huey when i push the throttle farwards it moves the joystick in game.
The settings for an axis or a button you set, apply to all items within the relation. And yes x56 should work perfectly fine. Any Joystick device for that matter should work just fine with the tool :)

Is this app still relevant for programing the winwing hotas?
SimAppPro or JoyPro?? Ive heard some have performance issues with SimAppPro?
Also, if using VoiceAttack it had ability to do keypresses too, if your using that even in a limited capacity, does that make it redundant to run JoyPro or the like?
One doesn't compete with the other. As far as i see is SimAppPro the firmware software by winwing (correct me if im wrong). And Joypro lets you group several inputs from several air frames together and let them bind them in one go. Also you can keep managing you inputs in it.
When you delete all your controls, you loose all your binding. Say your F-18 has 25 binding before you delete it. Now it's deleted, do you have to rebind those 25 again? If you do, the only difference is those 25 new bindings are bound on all of your jets. Am I understanding that correctly? Cap only bound like 8 keys when he exported to DCS. Now do all the other jets only have those 8 key binds?

Will it work on modes in the X-56. Asking because I use it and partly have mode 1 for combat A2A/A2G systems, Mode 2 is Navigation and Mode 3 is for Take off and landing oriented controls.
Once i have the modifiers working, you can set the mode switches up as modifiers. Right now modifiers are not yet supported but im working to get that feature added.

@@falconflyer04 You go into the modifier Manager, create a modifier there. You assign the Main button to the bind. And to the right of it you have drop down menus in which your previously saved modifier should be. You select it there
After few days program is unable to start properly, it shows icon on taskbar like it is activated but there is no access to the window of the program(interface). For me this is unusable now, I am deleting it. Idea is good but it doesn't work. It worked for few days but it messed up my controls so bad.
Delete the \Documents\JoyPro directory. Sounds like when it wanted to save the window state that it got corrupted.
Can you use modifiers? Like I have x56 and have to set my trimmer to work with every turn of the mode switch on the throttle. Does it su that for you as well?

Sorry, Cap, but the program was unhappy on my new Windows 11 machine, alas. I was getting lots of strange graphics glitches within it. But I only fly WWII and only a subset of that (German fighters), so I can suffer a bit. All computer games require some agony akin, but not as bad, as those folks who flogged themselves during the Black Death era. [*_queues the sound of whips_*]

Setting up controls in DCS for many different aircraft is is a total nightmare.
I fly a JF and Mirage those are simple... The F/A-18C Hornet... Who designed that HOTAS setup? You have to hit a button with a button while holding a hat switch and looking in the right direction.
Will you update this with the latest version? the UI is completely different and is completely. lost.

Hey! I like your videos and have followed several of your tutorials (thererefore subscribed). But I'm also not very tech savvy. Much as I'd like to use this software that you're demonstrating, you're going way too fast for me to follow. And I don't want to make a wrong click somewhere and potentially screw up some other function on my computer - again the lack of tech knowledge makes me very cautious about "guessing" what steps to take if your directions are too quick for me to follow confidently.
Wanted to give you a perspective from an enthusiastic but tech challenged follower, in case you're able to downshift a little in later videos. Cheers.
I agree sometime he can go a little fast when he's clicking on lots of folders but if your concerned about guessing, clicking the wrong thing and screwing up another function, that's on you. You don't have to keep up or guess what he might have done, just rewind the video a few seconds or play the video at half speed. That's common sense not a lack of technology. If it was a live presentation that would be different. You also could easily find other tutorial video. This application is very basic. Excluding backing up the profiles, deleting them and binding everything, all your doing is downloading, copy, paste, run Joystick, bind keys, save, export and start DCS. The key binds needs to be done either in the game or this program, that's nothing new or special. You literally can not screw up another function on your computer because everything that's changed is within the game itself..
Probably fine, but 0.92 works very differently - can you make a video about how it works - because many more things have been added since your video. By the way, have you made a video for beginners on how to "get hold" of A/A and A/G bombs, because I can't figure it out at all
The most irritating is (for me) when use days for try to learn how things work, only for to discover (because I did not read thousands of comment first just in case) that it is wasted time because it is a bug that might be fixed with time...

Hi how are you? I am 60 with a serious illness, I am struggling with setting up DCS and my T.16000M FCS. All I want is the ability to shoot guns and missiles, with the slider as my thrust. I can not figure this out. I use to be a hard core gamer back in the 90's. I just don't have the ability to problem solve like I used to., Any advice? Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Hi 2024 here. Still nothing like this from Eagle. I've almost stopped playing this once my controls were lost. Especially if you have limited time to sim. Takes FOREVER to set up. Just put something in like IL-2. Simple and works on most planes.
Is this JoyPro is still valid for DCS as of July 2023?
I tried installing the JoyPro but it says it wants to use 114GB?! Is that correct or did I do something wrong?
Thank you all of this., it so happen that I had to reinstall my OS so upon having everything ready againg I went back the link, take in account, I had it running, everything was lit, now im on i guess at least 5-7 time trying to set it up, now on joypro start up, 1, the update notification pops up, click yes, then comes an error. its not recognizing my stick throttle, i make the drop menus are complete. originally I used johnny not really paying attention to the version. so i took and it is not 007 it 32 or something, there isnt a 007. atm i have johnny loaded because hedi wont work, i get failure error. can you help, or any for that matter. I would really be greatful
