Hi Donovan, l'm a big Boxing fan from Ireland, I'm not a Jones fan tbh, because I don't think he fought enough quality at MW and SMW, whilst he was operating here and don't believe his excuses for not fighting Mc Clellan, at MW, and Benn, Eubank, and especially Collins and Liles at SMW, in mid 90s, when he was IBF, Champion. Liles has said, publicly, that Jones didn't want to fight him, he never liked Southpaws, and that he tried many times, and the Jones Camp eventually offered a fight, but wanted an 85-15, Split. If this is true, that tells me quite clearly that Jones didn't want to touch him then. I'd really appreciate your comments on the Jones, Liles, non Event please, cheers, take care.
@@francishegarty8087 Im a Roy Jones fan but i absolutely agree with you he bypassed the best fighters and had a BS excise for not fighting McClellan who also beat him in the amateurs. Benn, Eubank, McClellan, Liles all would have been better fights then the HBO mandatories he feasted off of in his prime.
I don't know why you're slaggin Liles off here, because Jones got the Win, 3-2. These Guys fought 4 Times as Amateurs, with 2 wins each, Jones wins, two by 3-2, Liles, 3-2 and 3-0, which included 2 knockdowns. Liles pursued Jones relentlessly, like lots of others, in the Professional Game, between 94-98, at SMW, while he held the WBA Strap, Jones was IBF Champ. This fight never happened but eventually, the Jones Camp offered Liles a Unification Shot, but wanted an 85-15 Split, if this doesn't tell you that Jones never wanted to fight him at Professional Level, I don't know what will.
@@francishegarty8087 thank you. i think jones killed pro boxing. he ducked all bad style match ups and never paid even the slight price for it. because of that we now have canelo fighting old men and uk hype jobs instead of andrade charlo or benavidez.
@@jamescaleb9676 Thanks James, your welcome my friend, I get you totally, Jones and many other Guys who blatantly ducked many other Top Lads have done this Great Sport of Boxing, no favors at all and have driven many fans away, who have turned to the UFC and other MMA Sports. Thanks again for the nice comments, Happy Holidays and best wishes to you and your family.
@@jamescaleb9676 Just to add James, I'm a Collins fan, seen him many times and met him also, I know as facts Jones ducked him also. If there had have been a Round Robin between the 4 SMW Champions, Jones IBF, Benn WBC, Collins WBO and Liles WBA, my money would be on Liles.
@@francishegarty8087 thanks and happy holidays to you, too. i think a rock paper scissors would have formed because that is what usually happens when so many styles mix. its rare that so much talent is in one division at the same time (including toney and mcclellan). that's why i'm no jones fan. i personally think he had a weak chin and knew it. and no one gets by Benn with a weak chin, or collins for that matter even though i think jones had a better chance against him.

I remember Frank Liles. I fought him at the Empire State Games in Syracuse, NY (1986).
Maurice Donovan must have been great work!
It definitely was. He was tough because he had the height and reach advantage. He knocked me down in the 2nd round. Won by decision.

Top class fight 😳👏🏾👏🏾💪👏🏾🙏🏽💯
Just to think....I was an infant when this fight took place....wow
3 to 2. Liles mum must have been one of the judges, and his dad the other one. That fight was about as close as the Earth is to the Sun

Do you guys have the Gerry payne and kenneth gould fight when they fought in the 1988 olympic trials ?
I've never seen Roy get hit so many times
you would have seen it again in the pros if roy hadn't ducked frankie

Roy ducked Frankie, along with many others, in the pros.
True but no one wants to talk about that.
