I did finish the swap and am getting close to editing all the footage for this truck. I will have it uploaded soon. I have a clip that shows exactly what you are talking about. I flexed out the suspension and jumped up and down on the fender to make it wiggle even more. I never had any clearance issues. It had maybe 3-4 inches of room left still in between there. I have also been wheeling with it for almost a year now with no issues. My truck is lifted though. I think the previous owner told me it was lifted 4 inches but i am not sure. If your truck is stock height, i think it would hit the front drive shaft. In that scenario, I would have just sourced a later model nv3500 with an internal slave cylinder.
The better mod but maybe more expensive is to add a gear vendors od. You can split the gears giving you a 6 speed and keep the granny low for a 7th gear.
i do not recall exactly what transfer case it was but it did just bolt right up. i didnt need any adapters. same spline count and length and bolt pattern.
@@johnrideabmx i also had a very hard time finding the trans. i planned the swap for a while before i found someone parting out an 89 gmc truck on facebook.
How people can work on equipment that has literally pounds of dirt covering it is beyond me !! the job takes twice as long just because you are constantly wiping dirt off your hands
Great video and info! Im thinking of doing this swap on my 84 K20 and getting rid of the SM465 and use a nv4500
i would highly recommend getting rid of the sm 465
Nice build! Just moved to CO and picked up my first K10. Looking to manual swap within the next month or two. Good video
thank you and good luck on your swap!
The 208 shaft was the same size off the SM 465 as the 3500 because I want to do the same swap on mine and I want to use the same transfer case
Have you had a chance to finish the swap? People say the front drive shaft has clearance issues with the bellhousing where the slave connects

What did you use to hold down the clutch fork on the pivot ball
nothing. i just grease it up and the force from the pressure plate hold it on. many clutches are set up like this
Did you use the same clutch linkage that's mounted to the frame or did you have to use 89?
i had to use the 89
How you do with the speed sensor on the new transmission
the speed sensor goes into the transfer case. I kept my existing transfer case so nothing needed to be changed.

I have heard about that but had access to the parts for the 5 speed swap so i went that route.
i believe that tranny is an HM290, basically the early versions of NV3500. Im manual swapping my 1992 C1500 and using the same tranny as you
Nv3500 to np208? If so how did they connect them I’m wanting to switch my auto 83 k5 to manual

@@myles2go. yea I’m having some real trouble finding a 5speed near me

@@myles2go. same every old thing I’ve bought with a 700 died and I can’t justify putting another one in I been one the hunt for standard stuff awhile
@@johnrideabmx unfortunately, that was my experience as well with the 700r4 trans. good luck on the search!

not sure, it never really bothered me.
This is a downgrade not an upgrade
