    Little tip to everyone. Clip the breakaway cable onto the thin part of the jockey wheel handle, this keeps it off the ground and protects against damage. Nice video Phil 👍

      Thanks Colin a good tip. I will try this out when out again. Thanks again Phil👍🙂

    A few things I do differently. I always engage the mover prior to unhitching. I also undo the breakaway cable after unhitching. Both woukd act as a brake if the handbrake failed. I also don't fully lower the jockey wheel when unclamping it. I leave it up slightly then wind it from there. Then if when you are leaving site and your car or caravan is lower than when you unhitched you have some play on it to get it lower. Might also be worth reminding people to plug in the mains cable to the caravan first then attach to the site supply rather than the other way round ... saves people walking around with a live cable!

      Hi Iain. Thanks for your comment. Yes I agree with you. I remove the Break away cable in the order shown as I had an issue with it a couple of years ago. Not lowering the jockey fully is a good tip. Yes you should always fit the EHC to the van first. I showed this in a previous video on the Caravan Electrics. Thanks very much Phil👍🙂

    Hi Phil.
    I'm just 4 months back into towing again so I'm still re-learning it all again. Your Vlogs are really welcome.
    Yesterday I tried to MotorMover the c'van into its Winter Storage (aka Mum's driveway) and I left the handbrake on...🙄

    Thanks for yet another great video Phil. I have all the instructions on a LAMINATED sheet of paper which I always keep in the caravan(hitching up on one side & unhitching on the other). Missing something could be catastrophic and having a check-list like this helps a lot.

    Hi, personally I would leave the breakaway cable till last. That way if the caravan were to roll away from the tow ball after unhitching you have half a chance of catching it (obviously doesn’t help if it rolls into your car 😂). When hitching I’d also add it first.

    • @lostweekendscaravan

    Hi Phil,your 13 pin cable looked like it was too close to the road when hitched,try looping it over the rubber bellows then back under to connect,my service guy showed me this and it has not caused any problems, also you must level side to side first,great vid.

    • @martinkitchin6204
      @martinkitchin6204 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My cable was overlong and I damaged it by allowing it to drag on the way back from The Lakes !
      My service guy is great. He shortened it by cutting the damaged section out and putting the plug back
      He also recommended looping it over the swan neck.
      So far .... so good 🤞

    Good tips there Phil. Another problem with trees in summer is sap all over the car and caravan. You could try one of those small T levels. I keep mine on the floor permanently between the door mat and cupboard. Really good to see you have a factory tow bar. Thanks for a great video. Cheers. Rob

      Then I bought a brand new Sprite Alpine 4 in 2011 and the dealer handover was very poor - basically it was none existent and I knew nothing better. ☹️. So much better at Freedom Caravans Stafford this year 👍

    Hi . We pick up our van in few weeks so great to see videos like this . Questions what is a compressed hitch and what is ALCO ?

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tom. Compressed hitch is the draw bar which has the rubber concertina section. If you remove the tow bar without this section being fully extended the hitch when released will push into your bumper causing damage/dent. Alko is the make of the hitch there are others around but this seems to the industry standard. I hope this make sense. Thanks Phil👍🙂

      Hi Kev. I hope you are well. I have the van in storage so I tend to leave it open but I always make sure the grey waste system closed to prevent something building a nest in it. I do close the drain valve just before we go away. I hope this helps. Thanks Phil🙂👍

    Nice video. Question, in your video when leveling it suggests you level front to back before side to side. I find it easier to do side to side first as we have an alko hitch and then the front to back. Is there a reason you level the way you do?

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Good point. It does depend on the type of security devices you are using. I didn't set up with my Alko as most older Vans do not have this type of lock they mainly use the Nemesis Lock. I hope the helps and explains my system. Thanks Phil👍🙂

    Great little video for beginners Phil. But I have a question! I was told I couldn’t pipe mains pressure straight into our major 4sb as there is a risk of it flooding? I use a ball cock type valve in my aqua roll, there for never forcing mains pressure into the caravan taps an fittings.
