    A trick to break the balancer bolt loose where you dont need to hold the flywheel is to get a long breaker bar and lean it against a solid piece in the direction the engine will spin. Unplug crank sensor, crank engine and the bolt will break loose in like half a second. Also for the cam sprocket, temporarily reinstall the balancer bolt. Hold it with a wrench while you break the cam sprocket bolts loose then undo it after they are loose. Just had to take the cover off mine to access a broken tap tool inside the block. Gonna do the timing chain while I'm at it. Thought these tips might help if you get to do another one.

      forsure man thanks for the advice that was my first time doing a timing chain the second time i did exactly what your saying with the bump start it was kind of scary but worked . the car felt like it had more power. one huge thing i forgot to mention thats a maker or breaker is dont forget to prime the oil pump before you start it.

      @@treez3603 Ive been wondering the same thing about the oil pump. It sounds like I HAVE to remove it from the cover and pack it with petroleum jelly before i put it back on. Even though nothing was wrong with the engine before I took it apart besides a leak from the water pump.

      @@caayydenn if you had a good drill to turn the crank that could work you can probably do it by hand a good 10x to be safe. or you can just start it dry for a sec then upgrade your oil to a thicker viscosity forever. sorry for the late response. either way youll be good. dont forget to rtv the cover were the waterpump goes

    So did it mess up because you misaligned the balancer? Or because the fly wheel slipped? Because isnt the harmonic balancer supposed to just slip back on into the notch in the crankshaft?

  • @Frontyardauto

    Respect for admitting to mis aligning

    Hi, just wondering if you happen to be able to tell me what sort of economy difference, if any, did you get after replacing the timing chain?

    • @treez3603
      @treez3603  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It saved tons of gas rolled on 5 bucks everywhere nomatter the gas price. It felt like it had more horse power too. It was worth it. I still have tge engine going to rebuild it that's how beautiful and easy to work on this bad boy is.

      @@treez3603 thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. Would that be 5 bucks US ? As I would need to work out how much that reflects in litres for a true comparison and idea to mine. We watching the video, it still appears to have about the same slack in the new fitted chain as to mine does. So I am wondering, was it the chain or just the harmonic balance (crank sensor timing) that gave you the improvements? As a chain and gears are not cheap to replace for no guarantees to being the loss of fuel economy. Any thoughts?

      Yes 5 US dollar s thats about a gallon and a half. So prior to.doing the timing chain when I took thecover off because it was leaking, I set the engine to (TDC) top dead center. And the timing marks where slightly off, like 1/2 inch. Im talking the mark on the crank the dot. and the dot on top which is the cam mark. Buy a repair Manuel it helps a ton. Any ways I changed it because it was stretched to where it wasn't lined up. I could have relined it up would have been fine it was 45 US dollars for the chain and gear. So yeah the engine afterwards we can say was running way more on point. The slack on the right don't matter its the slack my the tension on the left that does. There's a process I have to refer back to the book. The biggest part of it is line the marks up a bit advance to when you take out tye slack with tool on the crank the marks line up exactly one over the other. Top pointing south and bottom north. I can make a video of the parts in the book?

      @@treez3603 Thanks for the feedback. Calculating then from your figures, It would be 2.5 to 3.5 mpg extra. I am experiencing a loss of more the 15 to 20 mpg loss. It could be still a contributing factor as well which I am not ruling out. Could you tell me what size is your fuel tank and how many miles would you go on a full tank ?

    • @treez3603
      @treez3603  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strange im not sure on the tank I think its a 16gal. Id get about 300mi about. Id chexk to make sure everythings good with your spark plugs, as in you dnt have a misfire. If you car is just really used like mine was and tye timing is off a half inch like mine was it could be that too. It's running to rich because its not on time. But I'd check the plugs and even fuel pump pressure b4 the timing stuff. Even when mines was off time a bit it still was fair on gas. Look around your fuel injectors as well to make sure the seals didn't give.
