Rewatching this years later. I will never stop being amazed by how down-to-earth Richard always is. For all his fame (records, work, and knowledge) he is one of the most nice guys to have a chat with and and geek out about modular systems.
Thanks for providing these videos - really informative and interesting! I wanted to ask, what was the sampler that he discussed? I couldn't make out the name from the crowd question. _________ Devices was all I was able to make out. Thanks in advance =)
Was he using one of the Richard Devine pre-sets on the Rainmaker? I would hope so. Thanks for sharing that event! One day if I'm ever in Germany I would love to stop by for a visit!
Is it weird to say that RD's voice reminds me of Jarrod Wiggley from Gummo? Very enjoyable set, BTW. "This generative stuff" is precisely what makes modular so appealing to me. It seems misguided to even want or expect to use antiquated modular methods to produce complex chords, melodies and sequences without *a lot* of multi-tracking. It's not that it's impossible, but it hasn't been relevant or *necessary* for decades, so I think it's pointless to remark that "generative stuff is easier than making 'real music' with modulars". It's a completely moot point in an era where polysynths, MIDI and DAWs are already old hat.
Depends which modules are you using, there are loads of sequencers with quantized CV outs so getting melody and something sounding musical is extremely fast. But I reckon most people use modular because of the weirdness, otherwise they would buy regular drum machines & synths...
A jumbled mess of squelch. I would not call it a performance, he looks like he is trying to fix a problem. Fine, start off with a minute or so of sounds bumping around but then turn them into something coherent. Get your clock timing signals in order with the Antikythera Module P E A C E : )

that's the blueprint of the greats
this is absolutely amazing!
Amazing setup performance & sounds !
Does anyone know if the custom firmware used on the Braids is available?

Sure - if you're ever in Berlin, say hello! And: Sorry, we can't recall with what settings he used the rainmaker.
I call this genre Devine Wave
This is outrageous

think it is harder to get something to sound musical rather than just this generative stuff

Harder is always better and that means you'll be happier in life and you'll be successful.
Santino that’s what she said.
Interesting Q&A but underwhelming performance. Sonically very cool sounding but that’s about it for me.
good horror movie effects
Emperor has no clothes, someone had to say it, this performance is a whole bunch of nothing.
Hear, hear.

I deffo hear something interesting and worth the effort - agree its very niche.
A matter of taste. Don’t listen to it if you don’t like it
Isn‘t it hate that destroys our Earth ?
