My dad then named ‘Peter Bedford ‘was found wandering the streets . He was taken to Conisbrough and adopted. He never found out about his mother and he believes he had a sister too. He’s in his mid 80s now and called Jack Newell. If anyone knows anything please comment . Thankyou!
My mother was eight years old on the night of the Sheffield Blitz, the whole family of four spent the night in the Shelter in the garden. At one point a huge landmine dropped in the next road and shook the shelter to its foundations. When they emerged the next day all the windows of their house had been blown in, all the cups and glass bottles in the kitchen were smashed, indeed every everything except two eggs which were sat in a sugar basin with not even a crack in them! Strange old world.
Great film despite the spelling mistakes. Biggest one being that it is the Moor not Moore. There is a plaque in the window of Atkinsons there commemorating the Blitz. There is also soon to be a permanent exhibition in National Emergency Services Museum on Westbar where as a police and fire brigade station would have definitely been involved in most of the blitz events you show here.
