The toolbox of a man whose done a good and honest job all his life - respect to you and thank you for sharing your invaluable knowledge and tips, much appreciated.
Thank you very much sir. I'm changing my job and becoming a plumber at 40. It's so hard to gather in a short time knowledge and experience in real world. Plumbing requires a lot of experience. Thanks for your your experience in your videos.
A lovely man, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and inspiration in plumbing, and to 'have a go' encouragement as well. Invaluable for those of us who are newbies. Much appreciated. :)
Oh Al, you are the grandeur of all occasions. You’re simply the best, better than the rest! They don’t make anymore like you! I want to meet you someday
I love videos like this! Basically, you need a ton of different tools because you never know what you might encounter. If I were going to be a plumber, he would be someone to apprentice with...
I'm a 3rd year Plumber/Gasfitter and plumbing is definitely a trade for the patient.. lol. I think video is important because as a plumber being well prepared with various tools and building materials can mean the difference between getting the job done today or tomorrow :p
great video! just what i needed..... im a qualified plumber 5 years ago and never went into the trade lol... now doing my gas course half done and planning to start plumbing while i study. got all my tools out from the shed and was scratching my head thinking how do i organise this bloody mess. got almost everything you have so will sort it out now :)
Best start collecting tools now, been doing plumbing at college for a few months now and I really like it :) Looking for an apprenticeship at the moment, no luck though :( Great video btw :)
Okay cool, I currently almost finished level 1 diploma brickwork and wanting to do plumbing, dont want to be a pest but what sort of practicle work is it that you do? Many thanks :D
I do a variety of work at the moment, making copper frames using soldered joints, compression and push fits etc, steel, sinks, toilets, just a lot of work.
I was just writing that you are such a lovely man, and realised the lady below said you are too haha.. im a female plumber and you and plumber parts are the youtube vids that help me the most..thank you so much :)
Al. There debris in my bathroom sink tap. It’s terribly slow coming out. I fixed the toilet flow, there was a load of debris in it. But the washer was also wierd so i replaced the arm. All good everywhere else. I unscrewed, the water supply and no problem with the flow. Its a mixer. But hot and cold feed are the same flow rate. Its debris as we had been messing in the attic a few weeks ago with the water tank. 😢😮😅 I squeezed the little nets out with a tweezers 😮. No good. Please do a video on that. I feel ive tried everything. Im fairly handy 🤣😂😅
Fair play buddy. I like your style. As long as you know where the tool is, who cares? Very ignorant of me for making that remark really but I will leave it on for transparency. I did enjoy the video though. Good luck with the you tubing thing. You're braver than most plumbers to put yourself out there with decent advice.
I think they call them drain cocks. ..usually on the end of radiators pipes ...in commercial plumbing they seem to put them on , under sinks on the cold & hot pipes.
Does any know the company called engineering real results? They over NVQ level 3, which will take about 3 years to achieve, I want to start this course anyone know about them or studied there?
Hi. You are highly privileged - you're the first TH-camr I've ever written to. Love the videos. Please can you help me? I have replaced the large washer on my push button cystern (I had to buy a larger one from Amazon) but it still keeps running very slowly. I've cleaned it etc. but no joy. Any ideas please? Regards Eifion. (pronounced Avion - it's Welsh)
Make sure the seat the washer sits into is clean, then make sure the ballcock is not overflowing. You may also need to trim that washer down so that it is the same size as the old one.
Hey al how are you ? i appreciate you're knowledge , inspiration and humbleness . why did you choose plumbing as a career ? did you go to school for this ? what advice would you have for a young 19 year old male like my self that is about to jump in this trade ?
+Jahi Diop Hi Jahi, I new that plumbing would never go out of date, even though I started as an apprentice back in 1967, the same basic plumbing principles still apply. I had to go to school for 4 years training before receiving my city and guilds certificate. All I can say is you will never be out of work, it is a careerer that will last a lifetime. Al.
I think I want to become a plumber, I am 16 years old and currently doing a engineering apprenticeship but I don't like it, is plumbing a good idea? Is it hard to get into?
dereton33 I have only just started my engineering apprenticeship so I think I'm going to finish that first before I start a plumbing course as I think it would look bad to a employer if they see I quit a apprenticeship so soon. Do you think that sounds like a good idea?
Jack Cooper hey, im 17 as well and working as a plumber. Dropped out of School 2 years ago and started working with a friend of my dad, who also is my fishing buddy. Don’t know what i want to do later on, but at the moment plumber is great. Really like it.
I am at a crossroads and I have been flirting with a career in Plumbing. Al, you mak eit sound so easy but would you agree [given physically fit and steady hands] that it is really complicated for bookish theorics to master the craft? in other words shouldn't one be of technical bent to be any good at plumbing? Over to you.
The thing with plumbing is you have to be technical, good at engineering and fit. Brains and brawn together, good with tools and a natural flair at problem solving. It is not for everyone.
Hi Al. What do you think of these 'temporary pipe fix' gadgets? I bought one a few years ago, but thankfully have never needed it. (Rothenberger do one as well). www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0082AKXO8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
Mark Garth A very temporary solution, but if you are in a fix, any port in a storm. Would not leave it in place for longer than a few days, until the job was done properly. Al.

I'm in my first year now and i'm in 2 days a week, level 1 diploma also but i'm doing a lot of level 2 stuff now.
Okay cool, I currently almost finished level 1 diploma brickwork and wanting to do plumbing, dont want to be a pest but what sort of practicle work is it that you do? Many thanks :D

Okay thanks for the help :)
Old Skool plumbing. Love it however hemp can't rwally be used on potable water any more, I still use it for radiator tails sometimes.
Zed Man Thanks Zed.Al.

Reminds me of the kit I carried when I worked in the water department....
The top of the box is like odds and sods but fair play good idea I would personally organise it different but very good

Yes they are fitted where dropped pipes would need draining before cutting, like just above the main stopcock in houses.
Appreciate the video, I have an apprenticeship waiting for me as soon as I graduate high school in June (:
Good luck with it.
Brilliant video mate very useful
Glad you enjoyed it

Plumbing is a great trade, hard to get into but worth the effort. You will never be out of work.

Don't need all that
+Larry Kuzmin . O but you do. This is the minimum requirement.
Looks like my junk box at home
+Larry Kuzmin . Probably has more junk than yours though. I even have a kitchen sink in mine.
Very unorganised
That`s how I like it.
