You are 100% right about LMNT saturating the influencer space with their sponsoring. It's hard to find a video or channel that does not push their product. I found a video about mixing your own electrolytes and that's what I do. LMNT is simply too expensive for me and I'm tired of seeing the ads. Plus the maltodextrin content is concerning.
I had that ingredient wake up on sour cream. Daisy (not a sponsor lol) is simply “cultured cream”. That’s it. I almost grabbed a store brand, but noticed it had an additional 3 or 4 unnecessary ingredients as well. Sour cream is not created equal much like apparently now HWC. Always read the back! Also notorious is mayo with olive or avocado oil… there’s just enough added to say it’s there, it doesn’t replace the seed oils we’re trying to avoid.
I'm extremely sensitive to maltodextrine. For LMNT to sidestep, this is a big deal for me. It's a product that is no longer on the shelf in my home. Thank you for addressing this problem. Halloween movies For this old Nana from Montana and Pony 🐈⬛ ZOMBIELAND 1,2
@AlvinKazu my reaction to maltodextrine is to my blood sugar levels. Of all the sweetners, maltodextrine is absolutely the worst for me. LMNT does have a sweet taste, and I wondered where it came from. Reading the ingredients several times, I found no information. If LMNT had a different sweetner I would have been able to keep using it, but can't now. Being deprived of this information by the company bothers me.
@@charylliss3741 Thank you. My question was more along the lines of, have you experienced such symptoms using LMNT? I don't use the product, and I am against such products, but I'm just curious if you also noticed an issue and were curious why you were having it... I would think that you would have noticed something was up every time you drank the LMNT mixed in your water, so I figured you would have noticed something was worng.
@AlvinKazu reducing my carbohydrates even though I am not KETO means electrolytes replacement is important for me. LMNT was very good for that particular problem. I didn't specifically link any higher levels with the LMNT. I only test a couple of times a day, not after every time I eat. But knowing my levels from experiencing maltodextrine previously I just don't use any products with it in the labeling. As I said, LMNT was a product I would use if they add adifferent sweetner AND if they started more honest labeling.
I really enjoy your non-food reviews. First, I'm somewhat of a gadget freak, but mainly because you introduce me to things I never would have considered, most notably sous vide cooking and the Anova oven, which I'd be lost without. You've taught me how to properly sharpen knives, and lots of other things that may not directly relate to keto food per se, but have made me a better cook.
Love your non-food reviews. I’m in my late 70’s and have been cooking for more than 50 years. And I’m still learning great new ways to cook from your videos. Thanks, Steve, for all your videos.
Maltodextrin works like sugar in the body. Many ppl who follow keto are diabetic. I wear a CGM and while I'm not allergic to maltodextrin, I will notice a bump in my blood sugar as I'm type 2. My issue with LMNT is the lack of transparency from the beginning. They list on their website that there's no dodgy ingredients. They could have handle this better. I love the keto and non-keto reviews. Thanks.
Respect your take on LMNT. I don’t think a single partner of theirs is going to take the same stance, even though it is the more appropriate one. In this space we are already running from dishonest packaging and marketing. To find one of the largest contributors doing the same is disheartening and tears down trust.
CORRECT... I SEE A MAJOR CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT HEADING THEIR WAY.. AND RIGHTLY SO. I unsubed from every YT that is promoting lmnt.. cause they're all now tap dancing/making excuses for LMNT's deception/lie. Why? because they're making a lot of money from it. One gal actually said in her vid yesterday..that she's making enough money from LMNT to make a car payment... wow.. and she's a fairly small audience channel.. compared to most of the others. Bottom line it disgusts me that these people would put raking in the money, and willing to make excuses for a product that blatantly lied to it customers. DISGUSTING
As far as heavy whipping cream goes…I only use organic heavy whipping cream. It doesn’t have carrageenan in it which upsets my stomach. I don’t even buy dog food that contains it because it upsets their stomachs also. It also doesn’t have anything else in it but another kind of stabilizer. But the LMNT thing alarmed me. I’ve been using a long time. I have a lot of food allergies and sometimes I get a reaction and I don’t know what I ate that caused it. I’m going to stop drinking it for a while to see if is a possibility.
Thank you for the reminder to look at heavy cream ingredients! I’ve been paying attention to the soaring prices and kind of forgot about the back of the container! Re LMNT, I became a subscriber about 2 years ago. I have been disappointed by this maltodextrin thing and especially the way it’s been handled. My trust has been broken. I’m not sure I’ll go as far as returning my remaining packets for a refund, but I won’t be ordering again and will be letting them know why. Have a great week, Steve!
Contact them. I did. Told them I canceled subscription and they are sending me the unflavored and some of the LMNT sparkling which nether contents maltodextrin. If enough of us voice our concerns hopefully they will fix the problem and find an alternative ingredient.
RE LMNT: I canceled my subscription and told them I wouldn’t have ordered had I known the actual amount of Maltodextrin. They refunded me for my last order of 4 boxes. Maltodextrin also has a higher glycemic index of (105-110) than table sugar (80) in addition to the allergy potential for some people.
Oh Steve! I am so excited about more meat videos! One of the main reasons I won't buy a share of a cow is that I would not know what to do with anything other than steak or hamburger. Really looking forward to unique cuts and what you do with them!
I enjoy your non-food reviews! Cooking is a BIG part of the Keto lifestyle, and I appreciate you sharing your experiences with products that I might be considering. I don’t have money to waste, being on a fixed income, so if you’re not impressed with a product,it saves me from wasting money on that item.
I had a terrible reaction to LMNT but didn’t know what it was. Even if it had maltodextrin listed in the ingredients ( which it sounds like it should have!) I wouldn’t have known that’s what caused the problem. I’m so glad you covered this because now I’ll know to pay attention to that ingredient to better understand if this is what caused my issue.
OMG, Steve! I bought the same HWC! I was in a hurry, the store was out of every other brand, and I really didn't want to stop anywhere else. So, in to the cart it went. I was so mad when I got home and saw all those ingredients. I feel a little bit better knowing someone else had the same problem. I love your non-keto videos! I've purchased (or not purchased) many things because of your reviews! Lastly, yay meat videos!! We also buy 1/4-1/2 cows, and I struggle with what to do with some of the cuts. I'm really looking forward to this new content. Thanks for all you do!!
At only halfway through this video I am horrified that heavy whipping cream should be sold with anything in the ingredients but cream. I live in New Zealand where milk and cream are just that, no additives unless as sold as flavoured milk. I have a dairy allergy so never consume cows milk or cream and buy coconut cream and coconut yoghurt instead, but always read the labels first as added ingredients are starting to creep into everything. As for LMNT, avoid all the adds, and eat salt on my meals and either bathe in epsom salts bath or take 400mgs of magnesium before I go to sleep. Never got keto flu, and pretty healthy for my age, 88 yesterday. Keep up the good work Steve, you have an intelligent enquiring mind, plus a big thankyou for such clear speech. Your podcasts are a pleasure.
It is going to be so fun to see what you come up with for these different cuts of meat. I do enjoy the product reviews, and also hearing what you think about things.
I enjoy all your content. The good thing about TH-cam is we don't have to click on every video we see, so there isn't a reason for anyone to complain. I am sure anyone who has an issue is more than able to start their own channel and create the content they want to see.
I so enjoy these podcasts, Steve, it’s the highlight of my Monday (or whatever day) morning. Thank YOU for continuing them. I enjoy all of your videos, cooking or non-cooking gadget videos. I’ve learned so much from watching these past years. 😊
Steve I want to thank you for making this video! As a type 2 who is controlling/reversing my diabetes, maltodextrin sends my blood sugar through the roof. It IS infuriating that these companies can get away with this! It could LITERALLY kill someone especially if they are super allergic! It used to be illegal to omit things from food labels. I wonder if that has changed? I appreciate your channel so much and the way you go in depth with so many things. I totally and completely agree with you on the integrity issue. I also know that maltodextrin can and will add weight if you consume enough of it. I wonder how many people who are trying to be all in Keto and are gaining weight and can't figure out why. I won't even get started on the inflammation it can cause. It's kind of hard to do the right thing when you are being lied too about what is or isn't in a food product. Again, thank you so much for addressing all of this. Have a wonderful week!
I see Serious Keto as a cooking channel. Knives are a part of cooking. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with you sharing various cooking gadgets with your viewers. I am excited to see what you do with all the meat you have in your freezer!
I am continually amazed at the fact that some people will actually complain about content that they receive 100% for free. You can do whatever you want with your channel. It’s YOUR channel. Personally, I very much enjoy the non-keto content you include. Don’t let the miserable people get you down. The rest of us love what you do, and are grateful! P.S. While they are not classics, my favorite scary movies are The Village and The Mothman Prophecies. Neither one of them is very gory or graphic, but they are both creepy and just fantastic!
Loved this podcast ! I was waiting for your take on LMNT and you didn’t disappoint! I love LMNT and will continue to buy it but I respect your take on them not owning up to what is in their product. That disappoints me and shame on them. To end this on a humorous note “Where’s the Beef??!!” And my name is Wendy❤
I too love LMNT and will continue to buy but I understand that it’s not for everyone. I also agree that they should be transparent about their product.
Interesting about LMNT. I bought it and was very excited to try it. When it arrived, I made one of the pouches up and started to drink it. I just sipped on it while busy in the kitchen. Half way through, I started feeling nauseous and dizzy. I didn’t finish it but I also didn’t think it had anything to do with how I was feeling. A few days later, I tried it again and the same thing happened….only worse. I contacted the company and I got my money back. Until now, I didn’t know there was an issue with this product. I have ZERO allergies or health issues so I couldn’t figure out why I had an issue with LMNT. But. It must be the maltodextrin. Tks for the information. I feel they are being deceptive, however, had it been on the label I still wouldn’t have known before I tried it that I would have a problem. What reactions have others had, I wonder?
Thank you for your discussion about LMNT. I had not heard about this issue until seeing a video last week from Dr. Boz. I am an LMNT customer and have no reaction to the unreported chemical in LMNT. However, I am very disturbed at their lack of integrity in not listing it in their ingredients. I will not be purchasing LMNT again.
Thank you for covering the recent LMNT issue fairly. First one I've seen that addressed the real issues. Several other channels have defended LMNT and seem to miss, minimize, or ignore the real issues entirely. Sadly, one even mocked viewers for their concerns in the comment section. Granted, all were current LMNT affiliates, so I'm not sure how much that may have inadvertently affected their ability to be impartial. Even if one assumes LMNT didn't know there was maltodextrin in their product until this year, why not? What due diligence did they do before they brought LMNT to market and promised all of us "no dodgy ingredients?" Keto Chow made a video six months ago re Saltt and stated there are currently only two choices if you want to avoid clumping issues with flavored electrolyte powders. One is maltodextrin and the other is acacia gum. Keto Chow chose acacia gum. Some may prefer to avoid acacia gum, as well. But the point is findng out and knowing what is in the products you sell...is knowable information. Waiting 5+ years to find out, if that is what happened, is inexcusable.
Great video, Steve. I had a problem with LMNT, but it was related to citric acid, so I switched to unflavored. Trader Joe's and Sprouts have clean ingredient HWC, no additives of any kind. I like your reviews of kitchen gadgets, which help me decide what to buy. Again, great video!
Lots to unpack in this episode; I agree on the LMNT placement ads, always felt forced and kinda odd, I tried it, it was fine, but for the price I rather go with a competitor or two. Hate how they are adding junk to products these days, we have a local sausage company that I have bought for years, but felt lately something was "off" recheck the ingredient list and sure enough they started adding sugar...was very annoyed by that. Gotten half a cow twice now; really love that option from the quality, to the quantity, it is just a good way to go if you can do it. Thanks for posting.
I stopped using LMNT electrolytes about a year ago. I was trying desperately to get my always high blood sugar down and every time I would drink the LMNT it would shoot up so even though everyone else said how wonderful it was it just wasn’t working for me so thank you for taking the time to figure this out. It’s very sad that those saying they want help are really hurting you.😢
I saw Dr. Boz's video first about LMNT...and also do not have any issues while using LMNT. One point I want to make is that anything with "natural flavors" in the ingredient list is an unknown. I know this before choosing as I look at labels. If it is something that makes me feel off, I will never use it again. If it doesn't then I don't worry about it. LMNT was something I heard about in both my cycling and hot yoga groups....so I used it prior to my ketogenic lifestyle. I use it more because of my activity and believe I am metabolizing it better than someone using it just for fasting and not exercising. Just my take. I have tried many others that I don't like.
That's a very pragmatic approach. I get that often times companies will use the term "natural flavors" because it's a trade secret and they don't want their competitors to know which flavor compound(s) they used. Still, I think there would be fewer people concerned about "natural flavors" if there was complete transparency about what they are.
It's called being unethical. I knew there was something up when EVERYONE was seemingly addicted to it. Thank you for having a backbone. I'll give some of the influencers a little time to get on board before I lose respect for them. If LMNT had put it on their label, no problem, but they didn't. It's also called lying. I don't believe for a second that the company didn't know. That would be a lot of incompetence.
I enjoy whatever you put out whether it be keto or not. It's always nice to see new things and get an honest review. The LMNT thing has gone nuts. I don't use the product so I just move on. After seeing the HWC piece, I ran to check mine (it was clean). 😁 That is a product I never even gave a second thought too. Do what you want to do, we will be here for it.
Heavens to mergatroid -- the LMNT ads are SO annoying and honestly I would never buy it because it was advertised so stink'in much. I always skip right through them. BTW I can't believe some folks are complaining about what you talk about. I think I speak for most when I say the information you have given us over time is invaluable and so greatly appreciated and I never ever mind anything you decide to discuss. Plus I always come to see the funny shirt too lol.
I'm one of the lucky ones that have no issue with maltodextrin (no allergies, doesn't seem to affect my blood sugar) but I look at ANY prepared products geared to keto as suspect and probably containing things I'd rather not consume. I never tried LMNT because it was too expensive for my budget (tempted, since I find most electrolyte preparations unpalatable and people seemed to like this one, but I didn't bother because I knew it would be unsustainable) so I wont be missing out on anything. I stopped assuming ANY company has my best interests at heart YEARS ago lol, nothing surprises me anymore!
What a brilliant first half to this video. No major attack on LMNT, the company or the product, just a reciting of relevant facts. The second half, also interesting, particularly for me who has drifted ever closer to carnivore. Currently I eat mostly steak (no vegetables and or fruit), fried mince beef (fried for my dog, raw for the local birds and fried with garlic for me) if I run out of steaks. Occasionally I'll pressure cook a lamb curry that has half an onion in it, enough for 2 people. So vegetable input not zero but limited to curry powder, onion, garlic, coffee, cocoa, sweet white wine and tea. One good thing about mince meat (I think that is called ground beef in the US), the cheaper the grade the more fat it has and these days I run on fat. Best regards.
Thank you for the kind words. Increasingly, I'm also finding myself moving in the direction of carnivore. I'll likely never go fully carnivore because I enjoy herbs and spices and sauces - very similar to your list. 🙂👍
I never saw the reason to use LMNT or electrolytes. I first was on Atkins 30 years ago when it wasn’t a thing. I think my body loves low carb because I have never had keto flu, and rarely have any issue if I go off and splurge for a meal. So maybe that’s just me and they help others. I have watched you for a long time. I trust your reviews and your integrety. I am not a big horror watcher, but one that sticks in my mind is Hitchcock’s The Birds.
When I did Atkins (around the same time as you), I was so weak and achy. There wasn't a lot of info about electrolytes then. I find that on keto, if I don't get my electrolytes, energy is down and I'm prone to a lot of muscle cramps. So, I guess I'm saying I'm envious of you. 😉
@@SeriousKetohaha… don’t be! I often wonder how much better my health and weight would be if doctors had not kept telling me not to do low carb. Now I know it works best for me, combined with low histamine. Doc saw me improve. I know it was hard for her to admit I improved, bloodwork etc by following low carb. Thanks for all the videos! I have learned a lot!
I rarely feel the need to supplement electrolytes when I'm on low carb. However, I do intermittent long-term fasting of 7 to 10 days... Working up to a 30-day fast. I feel absolutely fantastic when I fast but it's critical to get your electrolytes so I make sure to put together on my own electrolyte mixture. The blends are so much more expensive than simply putting together your own.
Couple comments here: 1) Thanks for covering the LMNT scandal. I had no idea until now that individuals could be allergic to maltodextrin. 2) There is a new Wolfman trailer out that looks... interesting. 3) Fwiw, a guy I graduated high school with is in the process of creating his own outdoors / survival knife, and it's been a total nightmare to produce with his exact specifications.
I just can't see putting my name/brand on a product that I didn't specifically create. ChocZero had approached me about partnering on a Serious Keto product and I told them "no", given that ChocZero causes glucose spikes for what I'd estimate is around 10-20% of people.
Another great video Steve, I appreciated your review of the knives. As I have shifted from keto to more carnivore, one thing I did not have was a good set of knives, so you taught me some things to look for. We definitely need better knives to be able to cut the different types of meat.
Your channel, do as you please. There is no way to please everyone watching. If you don’t enjoy what you do it will show. Thanks for your content no matter what it is.
Thank you for your reasonable take on the LMNT "scandal". I am waiting to see how it all plays out since i have a huge stash of it and i dont really want to waste it😢
Thank you for the information on lmnt. I like all your reviews because they are honest. Carrageenan makes me feel horrible. Why can’t cream just be cream? You are so right about reading labels. Thank you
I’m a broken record, the less processed food. Takes tons of time to make your own, but when does what a person eats really becomes a priority. I use protein powder, that is processed too even though it’s healthy. My ingredients for these are one or two ingredients, usually sunflower lethicin as a flow agent. Sometimes us ingredient police have a point😊 For your cow use suggestion: canning! I have a presto canner in my Amazon cart and have been watching ‘keto, canning prepper-ish ‘vids. Having a closet full of canned meat stews, sauces, ready to go for both emergencies and convenience sounds like warm contentment to me!
Looking forward to the beef recipes. I actually feel much better when I make beef my main food source. I've wanted to get a share of a cow for years but haven't been able to financially. I hope to get a share from a local farmer next year. Thanks for your honest opinions on different subjects!
There’s nothing wrong with you reviewing non-keto products. It’s your channel, so do what you want. I personally enjoy them. Everyone has a choice to either watch it or not. Besides, you also do recipe videos and I think that products such as knives are a perfect thing to review.
The great thing about getting half or more of a cow you can request the cuts you want. Old School Soul Food gets 90% meat 10% fat which make it so he doesn't have to drain the oil off of it. Cookware items are part of life and great for people new to cooking or experienced cooks that might need upgrades to what they have. Most food has to be processed and cooked before it can be eaten.
Interesting info on the LMNT issues! I happen to have a (now grown) child who had life threatening food allergies. If you've ever seen your baby go anaphylactic you are no doubt as angry as I am. I did try their electrolyte packets early on in my keto journey and did not like the way I felt so I found another that worked for me. This week I ran out (I've had an upper respiratory infection and been drinking a ton but not eating much so I was doubling up - a recommendation from my PCP). In looking at a replacement I found myself studying not only the amount of sodium, potassium, and magnesium but also the form they come in (citrate, glycinate, etc) and particularly the other ingredients. It's amazing how much extra "stuff" is in them which makes a product look good initially but not work for me! Thanks for the reminder to do your own homework Steve!! ♥️
I totally agree with you on LMNT! Its not the maltodextrin, its the principle and what the heck else is not labeled yet in there. I find it to be much too expensive for me.
Seems like most electrolyte powder mixes are too expensive or contain some sketchy ingredients. I have a DIY version I make that works well for me and I can control the ingredients. The recipe can be found on Neah’s Way podcast.
I really like LMNT and tried the sample pack a while back based on Keto Twins recommendation. But the cost is just too much! I found on their website, ironically, what the ingredients you can buy bulk to make my own mix and never looked back. Good to know about the maltodextrin as I have an issue of that "filler" ingredient and is why I won't touch Doritos. I so look forward to your podcasts Steve! Keto on...
I enjoy your reviews of non-keto equipment. You have enlightened me about "new" (to me) products, such as sous vide, which is now one of my favs. Please continue to share! I am REALLY looking forward to you exploring the steer in your freezer!! I used to buy a steer at the local 4-H auction, usually one raised by a neighbor's child. I'd take the larger cuts to a smokehouse, have them cooked, then throw a big party. (Any excuse for a party!) It was a blast, and the fresh meat was super tasty! Last night I saw a local production of the musical, "Young Frankenstein." (I was unaware it had been turned into a musical!) Mel Brooks' film is one of my favorites, and this version was equally entertaining. That's my "holiday immersion" for this season.
I'm not allergic to maltodextrin, but I do have an extreme glycemic response to it. Glad I never got on that train. Looking forward to your experimentations for all the beef.
LMNT gave my mom and I instant heart palpitations. It was so awful. I’ve never had that reaction to maltodextrin or electrolytes so idk what to make of that.
Note that any electrolyte product will need a anti-caking filler to prevent the product from forming a hard cake. Mostly because most people cannot be bothered to either break up the hard cake in the packet before opening it or shaking a bottle until it dissolves... like I did for decades with drink mixes that hardened.
I use half and half due to all the I additives I’m HWC. About a year and a half ago that started I noticed that the heavy whipping cream did not flow the same as it did before. It was too smooth. It didn’t have the cream curds that showed it was pure cream and then it started causing constipation ! even the powdered heavy whipping cream does that to me so now I go with a half-and-half and the labor only states HWC and milk and I get no side effects
I suspect that the reason manufacturers add all the "bonus material" to HWC is to extend the "best by..." date. I'd prefer just having clean, straight HWC as most cartons are consumed well before that date in my house.
@@SeriousKetojust found cream in a glass bottle that's old school sweet cream. It even clots like it used to when I was a kid! 7 bucks a pint though , ouch
I like all your reviews and recipes and cooking videos. No one is being forced to watch everything. Bride of Frankenstein is the best movie out of those. Dracula is a great play to see live.
Scared me for a minute, I checked and my Costco HWC is cream and carrageenan. I have used LMNT for a long time, and haven't even heard about any controversy. I like your reviews, I think they're very useful. Interesting about the old movies. I won't (can't) watch horror movies, can't deal with blood and violence. I'd be ok with the old ones!
There is one disturbing scene in Frankenstein. I'll skip the spoilers, but when the movie was made, Karloff wanted it to be a more gentle scene, but he was overruled by the movie's director.
I've been drinking LMNT for a couple years ago now and have never heard about it containing maltodextrin and if it does it hasn't affected my blood sugar and I'm type 2 diabetic and wear a CGM. Of course everyone is different so I'm glad it doesn't bother me because i love the raspberry salt one. Thanks for this video.
I would love to see more meat recipes and techniques. There are so many fat bombs, keto breads, cakes, and cookie recipe videos out there already. I eat mostly meat, eggs, and vegetables with a few occasional treats. I want to learn how to prepare meat in more interesting and flavorful ways. I love meatloaf but have never been happy with how mine turn out when I ketofy my recipe.
Hi Steve. I really enjoy your reviews on all things whether Keto related or not. I bought that strop from your link after watching your podcast. I never even heard of it before! I thought it was sharpen and hone whether by an electric sharpener or the Whetstones and then the honing rod. I have never seen anyone use one so I’m grateful. I say keep up those reviews! As an aside my husband and I always loved watching Forged in Fire. Maybe they used one there and I missed it. Who knows. Point is I learned something new so thank you. It will be interesting to see what happens with LMNT. I made 1 purchase and only used one packet. Way too salty for me. I never seem to have a problem with my electrolytes on Keto. Looking forward to see what you make with those cuts of meat. 😊
I watched a couple of videos on the stropping process when I got mine. It's fairly straight forward. It think you'll be pretty amazed at how sharp a blade you can get with it. I mean, that's essentially what barbers used to use to sharpen their straight razors.
Just watched a video by Dr. Boz. She brought up the same issue with LMNT. Definitely not using it any more and going back to being more strict with reading labels. Apparently, the manufacturers can hide all kinds of dodgy stuff in “natural flavors.”
I watched her video too (I'm a fan). I kinda thought, given he husband's allergic reaction, she would have talked more about it as an allergen that the USDA ought to make disclosure of a requirement. Still, a great video and that's why I link to in my video description.
I tend to have blood glucose spikes with “natural” ingredients, so I don’t use LMNT….but that’s a very good point about allergies. ALL ingredients should be listed, for that reason. (My opinion.) 300 lbs. of cow?! 🥳 I would be in heaven trying out so many cuts I’ve never had before. Enjoy! Pretty surprised about those particular ingredients in that brand of whipping cream! 😳😬 Great reminder to read those labels. 😊
I enjoy all of your videos no matter what the content is. I always appreciate your honest reviews and all of the research you do. I do love the LMNT product and will continue to use it but I do not like the deceptive marketing. This could really be harmful to those with the maltodextrin allergy or sensitivity.
Hey Steve...I think I have seen them all...just an update, 30 days with no nail biting...the emery board tip is working. I catch my self occasionally starting but it is easy to stop as long as they are smoothish. I wonder how long before they actually look somewhat normal. Thanks again for filming...I will keep watching.
The one problem I have is my thumbnails. I have Raynaud's Syndrome and that manifests itself in "creases" in my thumbnails. As they reach the point of becoming the "white part", they are generally very brittle. Consequently, I need to file them down pretty aggressively.
I had the same problem with MSG I'm allergic to and it's under spices and I don't understand why they say the knife is non-keto cuz you got to have something to cut with right?
Ive never had LMNT but i react terribly to Splenda stevia. My glucose jumped to over 400 and its got to be in their "flavors" I do not have reactions to stevia
it is probably said by others in the comments but I did not scroll down. So LMNT found out that the supplier of the flavor powders they use had not listed the correct maltodextrin amounts in each flavor. They are working on the flavors currently, according to Indigo Nili.
Time will tell, but it’s pretty clear that LMNT knew about the maltodextrin (at least in the small amount they originally admitted to) but they still did not disclose it on their ingredients list.
Well you made me go check my Aldi HWC, and thank goodness it only has gellan gum. I wish I could find some without any gums, as I want to make clotted cream, and it works better with plain cream. I enjoy all your content, I learn a lot and your recipes are inspiring!
I don't know that I've every found HWC that doesn't have some sort of stabilizer. I suspect the only way to get "pure" cream would be to befriend a dairy farmer. Note to self: make friends with a dairy farmer. 🙂
Lol. I grew up watching all those classic horror movies on late night television. Even back then, they were considered B-movies. A lot of the actors in those films started their careers with silent movies and had to figure out the transition to movies that could now talk. It was not an easy transition for some. In some cases, being able to act wasn't even a prerequisite to getting an acting job. I loved the old Dracula movies with Bela Lugosi. At two in the morning with all the lights out, some of those classic movies scared me silly in a good way. Add in a local horror movie host like Elvira, Sir Graves Ghastly, or Svengoolie making jokes about all the bad acting, and it's was the highlight of my weekends as a teenager. The switch to late night infomercials was a very sad day indeed! Yes to more meat videos! I need some inspiration. I highly suggest getting a thermometer with an alarm for when the temp dips down. They even have some with apps now that let you check the temperature remotely! I've seen a lot of people, lately, lose a freezer's full of expensive food stock when deep freezers fail and they didn't know it in time. They don't make stuff like they used to.
Until such time as the USDA either expands their allergen list or tightens the rules on what can be snuck into the category of “natural flavors”, we just need to determine which companies and products we can trust.
You do what you want - it’s YOUR CHANNEL. No one forces anyone to watch anything they are not interested in. You really don’t have to justify yourself Steve. Whiners will whine. I would still be watching your channel if you decided to give more editorials about corporate integrity.
I am highly allergic to onions. A lot of people do not know that there are people allergic to it. I have a bad reaction depending upon if it is powdered, minced, or fresh, and fresh and being cooked in my general area. I count on it being on the labels and being disclosed. To me, this is a big deal.
Content related to the partial cow in your freezer: how was the meat packaged when you received it? Was it already frozen? How did you organize it in your freezer? Any tips on defrosting the various cuts of meat? My kids got 1/3 of a cow and I’d love to learn about how we can improve on how we do this
It was frozen. I organized by "meat complexity". Steaks and roasts on one shelf, ground beef on another shelf, cuts that are new to me on another shelf (oxtail, beef cheeks, picahna, shanks, etc.).
@@SeriousKeto I’d be interested in how long you allow different cuts to defrost and how you use the non-roast/steak/hamburger ones (especially recipes a picky10 year old would try). Thanks!!
@@bigjohnd1973 lmnt have recipes on their website for homemade electrolytes.
I was going to comment to drive the YT math bot, but this comment covers it. GJ, and great video Steve.
So easy to roll your own electrolyte supplements. Pricing on electrolyte blends is just ridiculous
@@desmit6 I’ve seen that on mayo as well.
I'm extremely sensitive to maltodextrine. For LMNT to sidestep, this is a big deal for me. It's a product that is no longer on the shelf in my home. Thank you for addressing this problem.
Halloween movies
For this old Nana from Montana and Pony 🐈⬛ ZOMBIELAND 1,2
~If you're sensitive to it, did you have any reactions to LMNT then?
Thanks.
I think you'll like tomorrow's video then.🙂
Respect your take on LMNT.
DISGUSTING
I only started my 2nd pkg of LMNT. I will not purchase another. Thanks
dr Boz called it out and I hear
As far as heavy whipping cream goes…I only use organic heavy whipping cream. It doesn’t have carrageenan in it which upsets my stomach. I don’t even buy dog food that contains it because it upsets their stomachs also. It also doesn’t have anything else in it but another kind of stabilizer. But the LMNT thing alarmed me. I’ve been using a long time. I have a lot of food allergies and sometimes I get a reaction and I don’t know what I ate that caused it. I’m going to stop drinking it for a while to see if is a possibility.
Carageenan is a known carcinogen in animals, so good for you for avoiding it in your pet food.
Good to know that organic HWC is cleaner
Enjoy all your reviews! And your voice of reason on LMNT
I enjoy all the reviews you do, keto or other products. I like how fair you are with the reviews and I trust your opinion. Keep up the good work.
Well said! Thank you for sharing your comment.
Steve, I enjoy all of your reviews whether they are Keto related or not. Also I am very excited to see what kind of meat recipes you come up with! 😋
Thanks Steve! Def looking forward to the “1/2 cow experiment recipes” in the coming months!
Getting reminders on ingredients is much appreciated, I often times do forget as carefully I try to be. Love your content
Thank you for sharing. You a a shining light in the Keto world. ❤
It’s very sad that those saying they want help are really hurting you.😢
thanks for sharing your results
I enjoy your reviews and your honesty and I love your non product reviews 😊
I have never missed a podcast. I like to think I have interest in more things than just keto, so keep it coming!
I really enjoyed your review of the knives last week. Very honest and thorough. Keep the good vibe going.
Thank you for covering the LMNT issue/non-issue
Time will tell which it is. 😉
Thank you for your balanced perspectives.
Couple comments here:
1) Thanks for covering the LMNT scandal.
I am waiting to see how it all plays out since i have a huge stash of it and i dont really want to waste it😢
I think that ultimately it’s going to come down to what they knew and when they knew it.
Sometimes us ingredient police have a point😊
For your cow use suggestion: canning! I have a presto canner in my Amazon cart and have been watching ‘keto, canning prepper-ish ‘vids. Having a closet full of canned meat stews, sauces, ready to go for both emergencies and convenience sounds like warm contentment to me!
I definitely foresee me doing some meat canning in the future 😉
Looking forward to the beef recipes. I actually feel much better when I make beef my main food source. I've wanted to get a share of a cow for years but haven't been able to financially. I hope to get a share from a local farmer next year. Thanks for your honest opinions on different subjects!
Great video. It was a pleasure to meet you last week at the meet up. Excellent presentation and giving us time for Q & A.
I really enjoyed it as well. I felt we had some great discussions.
Thanks Steve, great podcast. I enjoy all of your content, keto or otherwise. Keep it up!
There’s nothing wrong with you reviewing non-keto products. It’s your channel, so do what you want. I personally enjoy them. Everyone has a choice to either watch it or not. Besides, you also do recipe videos and I think that products such as knives are a perfect thing to review.
Thanks for your honesty.❤️🇨🇦🐕
I am glad you said something Steve. Every video I hae seen with keto there is LMNT. I have to shake my head.
Holy cow! I'll look forward to your up coming beef videos. I will eventually get more freezer space.
A lot of channels have shown how to make your own (including me). 🙂
Good job on the LMNT issue. Thanks.
Keto on...
I have learned from experience, that I need to read ALL nutritional labels. BTW, Walmart store brand 18% cream has added sugar. 😡
Wow (and not in a good way)
Great video. I wonder how many other supposedly sugar free products contain maltodextrin under the guise of "natural flavor?"
Always appreciate your perspective on issues, Keto & non-Keto. Thanks, Steve. Happy Halloween to Colton!🎃
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with your awesome recipes! Love&Light from California 🤍🤍
I’ve heard that from a few people.
Note that any electrolyte product will need a anti-caking filler to prevent the product from forming a hard cake. Mostly because most people cannot be bothered to either break up the hard cake in the packet before opening it or shaking a bottle until it dissolves... like I did for decades with drink mixes that hardened.
That’s often how maltodextrin is used. I think the real issue here is the failure to disclose it as an ingredient.
I just got a 1/4 cow, so I am definitely looking forward to your cooking videos!
I agree Steve, its an integrity issue with LMNT. Own the mistake, then make it right.
Good podcast.
Thanks for sharing your information on Elements. I love old black and white movies espically the McCult on Netflix.
Yay on the upcoming beef videos. I've got a side of beef in the freezer too.
Great to have met you last week at the Meet and Greet, Steve. Thanks for your time!
Likewise. It was a great meeting you as well. 🙂
Are you drinking flavored or unflavored?
@@SeriousKeto The Raspberry Salt flavored one; I've tried others but this is the best one I've liked.
@@SeriousKetoThanks. I sure hope so. I plan on giving it a go this weekend.
Yea to the meat! That's a lotta beef and I'm looking forward to seeing what you cook up!.
As always, really enjoyed your podcast! I like your nonketo topics, always informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really looking forward to how you cook that cow!
I wish there were a requirement for a complete disclosure of ALL ingredients in products....
it is probably said by others in the comments but I did not scroll down.
BALONEY!
The problem with natural ingredients, is it can contain anything. Including gluten, which is a major issue with me.
Until such time as the USDA either expands their allergen list or tightens the rules on what can be snuck into the category of “natural flavors”, we just need to determine which companies and products we can trust.
The Francis Ford Cappola version of Dracula is my favorite. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors.
@@methanial73 it also adheres to Bram Stoker’s book far better than any other version I’ve seen.
I suspect that for anyone with allergies, it's going to be a big deal.
I also have a sensitivity to onions and try to avoid them. I’m grateful that it is just a sensitivity and not any worse, because they do hide them.
Thanks!!
