‘We Are Asking Disclosure Of Data’: Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s Scathing Attack On Election Commission

In a press conference, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticized the Election Commission of India on two main points. First, he addressed the Commission's observation that BJP's 'Star Campaigners' had violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Although the Election Commission did not explicitly name Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it determined that his election speech in Bhanswara, Rajasthan on April 21, as a 'star campaigner' for the BJP, breached the MCC. Additionally, the Commission noted that all of the party's 'star campaigners' continued to disregard the MCC even after the electoral body had issued a show cause notice to BJP president J.P. Nadda.
The second issue Dr. Singhvi highlighted was the Election Commission's statement in the Supreme Court that the general public does not have a legal right to access Form 17C records.
