MD, so the “fluffy algae” on your wood in the tank with the brown algae is a bacterial growth that i had in my tank. You cant really get rid of it without snail, i just put some rams horn snails in there and then it was gone in less than a week. Its caused because when you start a tank the wood leaks nutrients into the water and the bacteria wants it but if the beneficial bacteria doesn’t get there first then the bad bacteria will start to feed on the nutrients and cause a huge build up and thats what the “algae” is on the wood.

I actually loved getting to see some of the maintenance and cleaning of some of the tanks! I'd love to see more videos like this in the future. It inspires me for my tanks, and shows it's not AS overwhelming as it may seem.

That "really weird fluffy algae" actually looks like fungus. I've had it once, got 2 spike-topped apple snails and in less than a day they had cleaned everything. So, if it comes back, maybe it could be the same thing I had. Hope this helps anyone out there with a similar issue, too. Cheers!
I think the nodules in the roots of the Salvinia may be the sori of the fern. Pretty cool. Mine has never had any.

Well, now you’ve done it! I’ve just gone and bought my first tank (actually a very large cylinder vase) and after watching what must be all of your vids I think I have the courage and can achieve something really nice - I intend only to have shrimp to start with (and some snails) and lovely greenery. Thanks for all your inspiration. Hope I can do you proud!😊❤
After watching your videos I have learned a lot. In the last 2 years I've upgraded from my 2, 5 gallon tanks to a 20, 25, and a new 40G hex. I currently have tiger barbs, rainbow shark, high finned spotted pleco, lyre tail and short finned Dalmatian mollies, Neon, orange and black tetras and a few long skirted black tetras and cherry shrimp. My dream tank would have Geophagus Tapajos with electric blue acara. But we'll get there one day.

Shrimps are so fun to keep. I have a cherry shrimp only tank and have large amanos in the others as cleanup crew. Definitely one of my favourite critters!
Superglue Really does make for the best bandaid. Ive used this method before and avoided getting stitches. Cant wait to see this new shrimp shack

My 20 tall had diatoms for months b/c of my sand substrate and im assuming bc it was also a new tank. I brought my bristlenose plecos in for the winter from my pond and they ate it all. I didn't even know they would eat it but i watched as they cleaned all of the plant leaves, tank walls and sand clear of it.
You should make a tank with a rainbow shark.
Or maybe you could bring back the discus twnk

A good way to prevent your shrimp from having shedding issues is to put a mineral block in with them- it's basically a rock of calcium and you can get them at most shops that sell fish. Another easy way is to toss in old snail shells you can find in your garden-(make sure you wash them first). You'll find that over time the shrimp break them down as they consume them for the calcium.
I crush ramshorns shell in mine, got loads of them haha population control and the same time free calcium and food for my shrimpys
@@johnkarlogallardo9158 I don't even crush them. I found some really pretty snail shells in my apartment complex and tossed them in(after a good cleaning, obviously) as decoration. It was cool to watch them get consumed over time by the shrimp.

@@johnkarlogallardo9158I get that- I'm just saying the process of the shrimp breaking down the garden snail shells was neat...the shells' inner structures eventually get exposed and it starts to look like either a weird art piece or a skeleton lol
Mineral Blocks are terrible for Shrimp Tanks, they ruin parameters fast.
I'm so looking forward to the shrimp rack, i'm just about to start keeping shrimp myself. I will watch closely for ideas and tips.

Super glue is the same as a chainsaw. Both developed for the medical field but have found more uses outside the medical field.
But yeah using super glue on a cut is using it for intended purpose

Buy some nerite snails they eat up all that brown algae in a few days!

I have to ask- I love my fish we have about 10 tanks marine- cichlid to tropical and some days I wake up and I just think- ( sell them all as I realy can’t be bothered with them) I have stages of this all the time.
Then other days I love them and want to spend all my time on them, do you ever feel the same where your just sick of them all?

Sigh... those are still mostly growing young females. Yes. It works with young ones but getting into the 1-2 year territory, it wont go smoothly. Been there. Done that. It does not work longterm. There will be fallouts.

Bloody Mary shrimp aren't a grade. They come from a different line of genetics. You can't make a bloody mary with cherry shrimp. They're an offshoot of the shoko line and have characteristic red flesh unlike normal cherry's which only have the coloration on their shells.
