  • When PÜR's newest foundation was teased on Twitter, the beauty community was collectively excited & frustrated; they had 100 shades available but they all looked extremely similar. Will it even matter though if it's a bad formula?? Let's put it to the test on my oily skin (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

    To everyone commenting on Cassie's shade range comments, she did say at the end that they do have a lot of shades, I think what she was getting at was that there was a great variety for light to mid tones, but not too much when compared to dark to deep skin tones. I could be wrong, just the way I interpreted it! I don't think there's a need to get up in arms over someone literally trying to be sensitive to others feelings, especially on a topic that is quite delicate like inclusion and skin tone. I think the beauty community has had enough drama for literally a lifetime, and a comment like this doesn't need to be blown out of proportion or talked about in such detail. I love the new format by the way, where we get the side by sides, you can really see the wear (I'm terrible for thinking foundations look exactly the same at the end of the day, and then rewind someone's video and realise how wrong I was!), plus its nice to see without the primer as I must admit, I sometimes think it's redundant, but evidently not! With the Guerlain primer it looks so airbrushed and beautiful! Same it didn't wear too well though. Anyway, everyone have a great day okay? x

      thank you so much, I'm glad to hear that you understood what I was trying to say.... I clearly wasn't clear enough for everyone but, like you said, I was trying to get at the fact that there were so many variations for lighter skinned people but not so much people with dark and/or deep skin; 100 shades is great! Any company that puts out more than 20-30 shades is going in the right direction when it comes to colors, but it would have been greater if the RANGE was more inclusive rather than being mainly a range of light/slightly medium colors with a handful of dark ones thrown in.
      I'm also happy to hear that you're enjoying this new format for my foundation reviews!! It's been a lot of fun for me to put these together and I feel like they're heaps more helpful for you all to see if the foundation is something that will or won't work for you... feels much more complete and well-rounded this way ^_^

    I think the thing everyone needs to remember too is that undertones are super important. So even if something looks the same online, the undertones can looks INSANELY different in person. Undertones can especially vary In medium skin tones. I am very light but I have very olive undertones, so even if a shade range really caters to light skins tones, I still have a really hard time finding something that actually matches me cause most pale people have pink or yellow undertones....

    • @thriftthick
      @thriftthick  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree that undertones make a huge difference!! I think PUR just did themselves a disservice in that their color 'swatches' aren't really distinguishable from one undertone to the next.

    • @decimalowen9206
      @decimalowen9206 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Agreed. I am extremely fair, but have neutral undertones. Warm undertones look yellow or orange on me, and cool undertones look really pink on me. Neither looks good. Almost no companies make their lightest shade with a neutral undertone (almost all make them cool, on the assumption that most very fair people have cool undertones). The only one I’ve found so far is the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Longwear in 090. I was pretty excited when this pur foundation launched and picked up LN1. It’s a bit darker than the Lancôme 090 but still looks like a decent shade match for me. It definitely moves more/wears faster than the Lancôme. I think it also emphasizes texture more. So I’m not entirely sure about it, but I really have very few shade matches.

    • @tessabean4085
      @tessabean4085 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My sister and I were talking about this as well. She is Hatian and is a melanin queen, she was saying that she would rather have better undertones in her foundation, she is neutral and it's really hard for her to find foundations that aren't too ashy but also not too red. So even if a foundation is a little too light if the undertones are right it looks better. We still should make sure foundations are deep enough but undertones need to be taken into account way more than they are.

    • @StellaMariaGiulia
      @StellaMariaGiulia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm neutral and extremely pale too. My most exact match is Kat vonD L1, but even without considering the drama surrounding the brand, I really don't like the super thick consistency. I'm using the ordinary serum foundation in 1.0 P (it's medium coverage) it's slightly darker but it's not as pink as others and I manage to make it work.

    I'm a bit perplexed. If a company comes out with a hundred shades how different do you honestly expect them to be? people's skin tone has very slight variations between colors so it would make sense that the shades have a very minut difference between colors while still incorporating the lightest of the light and the darkest of the dark

    • @annika4967
      @annika4967 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I agree, this whole "not enough shades jadda jadda" is just boring. I wish someone would come up with a foundation with just two shades, black and white, just mix it to get your shade goddamn

    • @xoxosmilesxoxo5
      @xoxosmilesxoxo5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      There were way more light shades than dark and deep. So for deeper people it’s a bit insulting that a company can make 100 shades and still leave them as an afterthought

    • @Mini_Min_
      @Mini_Min_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I know, right? It's become so annoying how now every foundation review begins with the usual outrage at every company that hasn't dropped at least 40 shades of a new launch. Including drugstore brands - where on earth is all of that supposed to fit in a store? Perfect foundation shade - I have hardly ever found any and have still managed to survive all those years by mixing with other foundations or by using powder.

    • @amyfoster5093
      @amyfoster5093 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Mini_Min_ I'm sick of seeing the complaints. Everyone will find something to complain about. Don't like the brand, don't buy it, don't like the person behind the brand, don't buy it, don't like the shade range, don't buy it. Pretty simple really. 100 shades and people still complain, morphe did numerous undertones, still complain, juvias is about to drop theirs, now people are complaining the shades aren't light enough. You can't win. If these complainers know so much better, then release your own damn makeup line with 1000 god damn shades. You are never going to cater to every single person or match their shade 100%

      So you’re obviously not a woman of color or you wouldn’t be complaining about someone saying the shade range is very obviously skewing light/medium. It’s very irritating when women who can easily find a color in almost any brand whine about people showing displeasure at the fact that dark-skinned people don’t have nearly as many options as lighter-skinned people. No, I’m not a woman of color, but I completely understand why that would be extremely frustrating and insulting because I don’t feel entitled to having my skin tone catered to and other skin tones being forgotten.

      Yes, and a lot of POC have medium-toned or lighter skin. That's why a good selection of undertones is extremely important, especially for people with olive, yellow, or golden undertones.

      I think the point she was trying to make is this: the number of deep shades as compared to the number of just being shades. There are about 75 beige shades. The light and next to light shades are very similar. The dark shades are not dark and there are about 16-20 deep shades. And while yes of course 20 deep shades is a great start. What she was saying is that the deep shades weren't nearly enough compared to all the shades of beige that are almost the same. They could have done 25 light/fair 25 med 25 dark (but actually dark) and 25 deep shades and that would have made the ratio of deep and dark shades better.

Recently, I started using the Ordinary's Nicinamide and Zinc formula and found it really helps balance my sebum production. Been using for about 6 months now and I've found that my skin is much less oily and less prone to breakouts. Would you consider doing a long term trial (if you haven't tried it already) and giving us feedback and results? Doesn't have to be the Ordinary either, I've heard of a couple different brands with similar formulations, just can't remember the others right now. Thanks for all the testing you do! 🏅💗

    I’m oily as well but I absolutely love this foundation! I prime with the elf poreless primer or the urban decay optical illusion primer, set with powder and finish with either urban decay all nighter or the too faced hangover primer/setting spray. It leaves my skin looking stunning and doesn’t budge! Super happy with it! Also thrilled at the shade range and undertone variety. I have a lighter end medium completion but it’s hard for me to find a foundation that matches my undertone that hits the nail right on the head shade wise. I usually have to go up or down one shade to get the right undertone but MG2 works amazing for me!
    I absolutely agree that if you do get oily (like I did when I forgot to set and spray my face) it does transfer a lot just as Cassie clearly demonstrated. Any who loved the video Cassie! ❤️

    i’m not mad at the amount of shades. with 100 shades some should be similar. even if you are in the same range and undertone you aren’t the same shade each women is different actual shade. it is impossible for me to find an actual undertone and shade that is a perfect match, i never have so i am excited to try to find a shade for me. i can tell each range what the undertone is from looking st it. my time and like light hispanic skin tone are hard to find. i am black and white.

It's amazing. I reccomend to any oily folks out there. I've been using the Lorral Pro sweep and lock powder which I like a lot. For real? There are over 20 deep shades, which is a heck of a lot. It's over a spectrum, Cassie, so of course there is a lot in the middle of the road "tan" sections. They aren't "the same thing". Undertones make a huge difference and don't translate well to digital "shades" on screen. This is the first time I, a very pale but not pink and slightly olive-y person, have found a really good match.

    When you make a ton of shades within one skintone category (i.e. fair, light, medium...), it's inevitable that they are going to look extreeeeemely similar, but that's kinda the point of more shades isn't it? To avoid big gaps in color match and let people match their skin tone down to the slightest variations in undertone. Obviously though, if they were gonna do that with the lighter shades they should have done it with the deeper shades as well.

    I wonder overall if it looks like theres more 'lighter' shades because its being build up from fair, light, medium..but more dark and deeper shades would make it even better. Its still good they have many options and overall perhaps more in the dark/deeper category than other brands? Not close to or perfect shade range but still pretty good .. Thanks for the review Cassie!

    I think they did skew too light in the shade balance, but when you think about it, there's still 40 dark (if they are actually dark and not tan) and deep shades which is way more than most brands. I don't think they need to be dragged, because they tried, they just need to try harder. Surprised these things still happen with big brands because this has been a topic on the internet for a loooong time now.
    Maybe it's money/sales related, since a higher percentage of the population in the US has presumably light to medium skin (i.e. 61.3% white non-hispanic/latino and 76.9% white hispanic/latino). Not an excuse but businesses gonna business.

    • @thriftthick
      @thriftthick  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely understand everything you said, yes! I don't think they needed to be dragged either (100 shades is better than some companies who do less than 10) it was just super exciting to hear how many shades there would be but then to actually see what was available... it was a little disappointing.

    Shout out to pur for this range. Differences in undertone just cannot be captured in photos and I am interested in seeing the range in real life. I took the foundation match test on their site and did two rounds using two different foundations that work for me (Fenty and luminous silk) and both searches yielded a slightly different result, which shows me that differences in depth and undertone are very subtle, which makes sense for 100 shades. Also, lots of people of color fall into the medium and tan range and their undertones are just not catered to, similarly to those with very deep skin tones, so I think this line looks promising for all kinds of folks!
