I really like the switchaxe because it reminds me so much of a chainsaw. You could say Charge Blade is more of a chainsaw, but the smoke coming out while you stick a 1000 degree blade into a monsters skull revving up is better.
Wow i love your videos! For anyone scrolling through looking for some advanced tips: Always cancel ZSD early by stopping the input prematurely, you can train to get as many little explosions as possible without getting the recovery animation. If you end ZSD in Sword Mode, you've done it correctly. This allows you to get out more ZSD's, and you won't leave yourself open for hits during the lengthy animation after full ZSD.
Ending early is not always good. It gives the final explosion a x0.7 nerf. Especially when you want to break parts you dont want to end it early because ~80% of part damage of a zsd comes only from the final explosion. Damage wise its also not always worth it. Fox invictus here on yt has a vid on it. You wont get significantly more zsds and on raw switchaxes you overal damage will be lower. This is because the ticks profit more from element while the finisher is mainly just raw based. So only end early if recovery is an issue. But most people do zsd with temporal or rocksteady and have full health after a zsd (due to health augument) so monsters wont be able to cart easily
Great display of skill, but ironically enough I found the ZSD part a bit lacking in depth xD As you showed, you can detonate the final explosion earlier, but you can use that for more than just avoiding an incoming attack. If you let go before the last tick you will deal almost the same damage but with a major benefit that will increase the overall dps, since you will fall in place instead of getting sent flying (and with an animation that leaves you vulnerable for a few seconds). This way you can insta morph to recover gauge (mandatory if the bar is purple, since otherwise you will enter the slow switching to axe animation) and start doing any follow ups you want with the axe, the sword or even subsequent ZSDs, which would quickly make up for the small damage loss (*or start dodging if necessary). This becomes even more important when detonating without the long recovery animation means that you can actually punish flinched monsters (in the video you flinch a lot of monsters with the ZSD and you could have done some very fun follow ups from there if you detonated earlier). A (claw) flinched monster means you get a free subsequent ZSD or other combos like those you perform by the end of the video, so it feels bad not to punish those (I hate using mantles because they are unfashionable and temporal-rocksteady provide unfair advantages if the monster can't counter them, so those openings are quite relevant for the legit hunters that dont use cheesy methods). Of course the normal detonation isnt useless, you can actually utilize the recoil to dodge some attacks, especially AoE's that would otherwise get you good if you fell straight down. Also if you know you ain't gonna get anything else, you should also commit to it since it deals slightly more damage (scenarios like a monster running or flying away, or projected shot knockdown punish that ended in ZSD and the monster is going to roar from getting enraged right as you finish it). PD: Recently I got an aerial ZSD on arch-tempered Namielle's tail right as a teammate was wall slamming, which made a very funny interaction where the final explosion got forced and it happened even before the actual ZSD animation started... and it also severed the tail, I'm glad I saved a clip.
So instead of using rocksteady you just grapple on to monster parts like namielles tail that the ai pretty much never uses to attack? And then you call mantles cheese? lol Another pro for not ending early is that the majority ~80% of part breaking dmg of a zsd comes from the final explosion. And with a early ended zsd this is nerfed by x 0.7. Had a friend that had trouble breaking fatalis head fast enough because he always ended early.
Fortunately, their is 1 level missing which is ZSD alatreon head without getting any damage while he have thunder on his head . Nice video fellow hunter..,👍🏼

Interesting, after not really getting into Monster Hunter World I gave Monster Hunter another chance with Rise and beat Monster Hunter Rise with the Switch Axe. Being back to World cleaning up Optional Quests and stuff but there is one thing I never understood: Why you can sometimes Clutch Claw to a Monster and do Zero Sum Discharge and other times not... that is because I didn't really take the Power Level of the Switch Axe into consideration. You have to switch to Sword-mode and attack to fill it, to empower the Switch Axe... and then the window is open to allot fun and strong stuff.
As a swaxe main... I fucking love this! ✨ Since Fatalis came out, my friends finally learn to accept the all mighty Swaxe! 🥰 Even in Rise, swaxe is so broken because of the silkbind that auto recharge the meter lol
