  • The new SCORCH lead rig has arrived after a long search. Did we get a Jeep Wrangler, a Ford Bronco, or a Toyota 4Runner? Find out as Jonathan Z, Lead SCORCH Scout, heads to the dealership to pick it up, then come along as he takes it out for first on-road and off-road impressions.

    It wasn’t the best choice, but it was the best choice for you. Everybody who knows… knows 4Runner. 😉

      Getting a 4Runner would’ve been a little too close to getting another Xterra. It was time for a change but it was not an easy decision.

    Good choice. Can’t go wrong with either a Wrangler or a Bronco. Well done video. Thanks.

    Congratulations Jonathan !
    Great choice, I’m sure you’ll love it.
    For what you do - this is the right choice. The Bronco is better on the road, the Wrangler is better for off road, while the Toyota isn’t as good as the Bronco on road and defiantly not as good as the Wrangler off road. Again, great choice for someone like you.
    Wishing you many years of great adventures with your new rig.

    Loved the plot twist as I was sure you were going with the 4Runner! Rig looks great! I got my bronco 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it. I had a tj wrangler as second car and loved that. I was cross shopping the same vehicles as you and I was lucky enough to land 2 broncos 7 months after ordering (ended up selling one). I’m no rock crawler but love the outdoors and love vehicles that allow greater access. The truth is each of them have their pros and cons. If i had to wait another few months I would’ve gotten a wrangler and have been happy. I’ve wanted a 4Runner for awhile but the stars never aligned. Truth is you really cant go wrong!

    Super glad that you came from an Xterra P4X! Im an Xterra OR 6MT owner and love it, but am biased as I'm an ex Nissan master technician. Im curious what ended up happening to your X?
    Also, congrats on the Jeep. Im a Nissan fan boy but plan on eventually getting a JT Gladiator.

    Well if you want a rock crawler and overland buy a jeep or bronco and if you want get there and get back every single time for the next 40 years get a Toyota plus you don’t have to deal with a noisy cabin.🤙🏾

    Nice. I think a wise choice on not going Bronco. 1st gen in anything should be a hard pass. Just my opinion backed up by the news of the engine failures in the Bronco. I want a rubi bad but I can’t do it. Reliability is just not there for me. But I am envious of it all the same. For me it was the tried and true well tested 4 runner ORP. Threw on some rock sliders, a 3 inch lift, and a roof rack. I think when the 265 duratracs wear out I am going 33 pizza cutters and need to do the armor upgrade. Enjoy that sweet Rubi.

    Enjoy your new Jeep as they are the ultimate off-roader. But I have a new 4Runner TRD Pro coming in next week at MSRP why Toyota Reliability & Reliability. I have never owned a Toyota, I have owned Jeep Wagoner, Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra all 4x4 trucks.
    Why not Jeep tow rating as I pull a small boat, Why not Bronco I am not going to pay over MSRP and none available.

    I don't know you. So there was no way to make an educated guess on what you would pick. Many months later the reveal is not what I would have chosen because we have 2 different philosophies/budgets for vehicles. However, when I felt I was in need of an upgrade and wanted modern tech. I left the 1995 Nissan Pathfinder SEV6. Ironic we both left the Nissan world. Fantastic choices for the era. I know the Rubicon JLU is a very capable machine. And I am sure as a play thing it will be fun. When I was looking at the same 3 choices, Bronco had not been released, nor had a time table even been given to when the release/launch was going to happen. And I did not feel like continuing to wait another eternity for it. Had already waited 5 years from the hint it was coming. So that left the JLU or the TRD OR. And I needed something that I knew was going to outlive me. Buck for buck I know I made the right choice. I don't need to swap vehicles every 5 years, nor do I want to. :) Enjoy your rig.

    • @SCORCH4x4
      @SCORCH4x4  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for sharing. The 4Runner is a logical choice for a former Nissan owner. The 4Runner is in many ways carrying the same flame as the X-Terra (and the Pathfinder). For me, I was ready for a change and was definitely looking for a capabilities upgrade, so I am in a better to scout the harder trails and to get into a better position for recovery when SCORCH members need some help getting back on the trail. Honestly, I would have loved either of the three choices, so there was no wrong or right decision to make.

      My friend bought a Tacoma a year after I bought my JLU. He only used it to commute to work and the transmission actually _melted_ while going down a normal paved 35 mph road. My Jeep has seen more miles and a ton more abuse off the road with a lift and 35s and it's never been in for anything but maintenance.
