Xbox One X Teardown - What's Inside???

  • The Xbox One X is here and I tore it down! Today I received my Xbox One X Project Scorpio edition. I unbox it on camera, then get to the teardown.
    The case halves slide apart and reveal a metal case enclosing the innards of the console. After removing the metal shields we get to the main components, the disc drive, power supply and fan assembly. After removing all of those I find the hard drive tucked under them.
    I remove that then take off the x-clamp to reveal a lot of thermal pads under the heat sink. The heat sink itself is huge. An interesting find is the thermal paste. It was already dried out and crusty.
    Hope you enjoyed the teardown and let me know if you have any questions in the comments section.

    Thanks again for another great tutorial. After doing a teardown, clean and thermal replacement for the PS4 Pro, I figured it was time for the Xbox One X to get the same treatment, plus an SSD upgrade. Even though I've had them both for roughly the same length of time, I feel like the X had a lot more dust in there.

    Dumb question, would replacing the thermal pads on the RAM chips with thermal paste also be a good idea or would the motherboard wiggle too much spreading the paste too thin when reassembling?
    Thanks again for making this video!

    • @DFX4509B
      @DFX4509B ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bad idea due to the larger gaps than between the heatsink and APU die, which is what thermal putty is made for: bridging gaps that are too big for thermal paste or pads to be viable.

    From the looks of it I believe that the disc is gonna the one with most of the problems because the heat from the fan is going to hit on the disc drive by much. Also i didnt really like the way the RAM chips have been placed, I mean that not all of them will be cooled enough from the fan. Its dissapointing, people better be careful.
    Well at least I enjoyed that teardown man. You are really good and explain all the staff really great to amateurs. I have a question though, how do you '' feel the console'', I mean that you hold it and looked at it , does it feel solid enough in your eyes?

      It's very solid! It's heavy and seems to be built well.

    I'm confused, that hard drive appears to be 5400rpm. I thought Microsoft said loading times would be quicker due on the X due to a 7200rpm hard drive?

    What i was asking is would it be easier put a 2tb ssd and flash it while pulled apart. You don't get much with 1tb 7200 rpm. I do understand that you may lose up to 400mb on the current hd and op system. Would be good to c this. Love ur channel nd that's y i am asking. I honestly think this is where you will shine with ur channel. Again thank you for your knowledge and wisdom.

      Heat test have already been done and it shows that the Xbox One consumes less power and is actually cooler then a normal PS4.
      As for the PS4 Pro vs Xbox One X, I donno. I'd imagine the Xbox One X would still be relatively cooler then the PS4 Pro simply due to the way they are designed.

    10:36 Is that an unpopulated M.2 PCIe slot? If so, maybe Microsoft is looking to release versions of this console equipped with an SSD. That would be awesome if it comes to fruition... a PCIe SSD on top of 4K gaming and 4K Blu-Ray sounds so good!

    Kind of wish you could do a teardown of the regular 1X. As all the teardown I see are project Scorpio editions. I heard there are some Scorpio 1X shutting down and couldn't help but wonder if the dry thermal paste could be a Scorpio problem.

    Great channel.liked and subbed. Im looking for a teardown of the elite controller for Xbox. I am having a few issues with rb and lb broke because it's 1 piece. Also down on dpad quit working...possible spill...issues wit plastic clamps that hold sticks in place. The circle around the joy stick on face popped out and lost it....why that even comes out I have no idea. So I'm bummed.

    Thermal paste will be sticky and more liquid when you run the machine. It needs to be warm. For example stock fan of intel cpu's are coming pre-applied dry paste too.

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No it doesn't need to be warm. I've disassembled literally thousands of consoles. If it's dry its going to be dry. It doesn't get more wet when you run the machine.

    • @creepyuncle542
      @creepyuncle542 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7
