This is a great pattern for a scaly cap. Very easy to follow and it worked up so fast. It came out soooo nice. Thanks for taking the time to put this out.
I have been trying to find a good pattern for this type of hat for years!! This randomly popped up on my feed today and I am so stoked! Thank you for sharing this wonderful pattern!
Yes, the spike stitch is what made me switch to another tutorial. I got the same effect, but I'm not a quitter, so I will be trying to conquer this spike stitch when I'm not on a time crunch. 😅
I made a different pattern and when I finally figured it out it could maybe fit my cat’s head lol. I don’t know how to fix guage except I need a bigger hook. This pattern is more advanced and i dont want to keep wasting my time- help! This looks so cool but im sure I’ll mess it up even following the directions.
I enjoy your videos. Would you do a baseball cap free pattern instructional video? I’ve been wanting to do a baseball cap for myself . Thank you, take care
While everyone else is raving about it, I'm over here trying to find the hole for the spike st. Some ppl it takes only one showing of how to do something, others it takes maybe a few showings. I'm the latter apparently. This was very frustrating to watch as it's so fast, and even though I went and watched how to do the alternating spike st, I'm still having difficulty trying to find the space where the spike st goes. JMHO here, but a little slower when showing where it goes, and maybe show it a few times until a body gets the hang of it, not just show it once and then skip to the end of the row.
I found this tutorial on Pinterest, and on the page there there was a tutorial on the spike stich, I understood it from that video:) maybe you could look that up
I had the hardest time also with that. I kept replaying it over and over. I understood where to put the first spike in row three, but after that I couldn’t get it down. I even tried reading the directions.
Can someone tell me what im doing wrong? I checked my gauge, and its right, and everything was going well and was going to be the right size, until I went to aew the top onto the brim... Now the hat is too small. Where did I go wrong?
I have been trying to look at the video over and over to figure it out cause it is not a real tutorial to me,from one end to the other. I even went to the spike stitch video to look at? Different to me. So if you are new to crocheting I can see how it can be difficult, I been crocheting since I was 11 off and on and I am 64yr old now.
After finally figuring out (by another tutorial) the spike stitch, I finally finished this cap. It turn out really large. 🙄😩. I used a size H-5.0 hook. I will attempt to try this again with a size F-3.75 hook. Hopefully I’ll get it right or close enough. I’ll try it on before attacking the bib, so I can frog it. Wish me blessings. 🙏🏾
I used a 5.5 hook and the hat is way to small and I did gauge test 3 times to make sure .. idk what to do instead of starting over mabye I can add a few rows to it to make sure the back part of the hat truly covers atleast enough of the back of my head to stay on my head. and I have a big head
Hello. Can someone help me? There is no way I can get 28 sc on the side working from the marked 47th row. I always get 24. No matter how many times I watch the video and start from the beginning, it ends up being the same again. Maybe it's logical because every 2nd loop in 47 will give 24ish 🙃. Even in slow motion I can't see where to add the remaining 4 sc to 28. There is also no explanation in the written pattern. I reached the 61st row easily, following the instructions. Now I'm stuck. 🤷🏽♀️
@hearthookhome could you please give some explanation as to how we can achieve the 28 stitches? I am making this hat as a gift and do not want to go further without the correct amount of stitches.... Thank you!
I would recount your rows or cheat a little and just put a few extra stitches in? 😅 I’m struggling with how to tie the knot to start that 28 sc on the side. I’m pretty new to this and I feel like it should be more secure! I wish she didn’t cut out how to add on the new row
I can't get the first rows right. Not from the written pattern not from the video. From 5 to 8 goes well then from 8 to 11 I need to add 2 stiches but from the video it doenst add any in row 2 and in the written patern it says chain 1, one turn sc in 1st then ssc Over the 1st sc..and then sc* aka making both sc and ssc in the 1st i imagine but I don't end with a spike I end with a ssc on the 2nd to last and one side looks tapering off to the side while the other side looks like a straight corner..I re did this 8 times yesterday (chain 8 ..2dc in 1stich 5sc athen 2 sc in last stich and then 2 rown and 3 2and each times might be able to make 5 9 11 to 13 stiches looking bit it doenst look anything it supposed to be amd it doenst get the right sc and ssc alternating like her instruction video about the assc.. soci had to put it away. And breath who can help me figure out what I am doing wrong
Omg, I'm having the same problem!! Row 1 has 9 stitches & row 2 is supposed to have 11 stitches but I can't understand where the increase is.. I've been crocheting for only a few years so I'm not a n00b.. I'm confused as hell right now
I asked chat GPT cuz, same. You SC into the first stitch then spike stitch into the same one ( that's your first increase), after that it's one SC in one loop and spike stitch in the next, at the end you finish with a spike stitch then a sc in the same loop again... That gets you to 11.
Good golly you've got great lungs! How you can put out so much info without needing take a breath is a skill we haven't quite mastered yet. We're trying to follow along and you talk rather fast. Just means more views as we continue to go back and rewatch haha
My husband and father in law both wear these hats!! I will be making this for sure!! ❤😊

You can do it!
Wonderful pattern, your video is perfect!! Im going to enjoy making this!!
Great pattern! Thank you for sharing! 💝

This is a gorgeous pattern it’s different,I love it thank you for sharing ❤
Glad you like it!
💜 I just love this hat. I’m going to try making this. Beautiful job.

My brother would like to wear it 😊 so I definitely have to make it 😂❤ Thank you!

I actually figured it out!
Maybe slowing the video down might help? In the setting you can choose the speed the video is played.
The spike stitch goes in the row below
Awesome tutorial. Thank you ❤❤❤
Love these! Thank you for sharing the pattern and technique. ❤🎉
Love it!
Can anyone tell me which rows i need to increase to make this hat 23.25 inches? Pattern is 22" thanks
I would try going up a hook size or two and see how that works for you. I did the same thing but a smaller hook size to make the hat smaller
Can someone tell me what im doing wrong? I checked my gauge, and its right, and everything was going well and was going to be the right size, until I went to aew the top onto the brim... Now the hat is too small. Where did I go wrong?
How to adjust it for a one year old baby?
I have been trying to look at the video over and over to figure it out cause it is not a real tutorial to me,from one end to the other. I even went to the spike stitch video to look at? Perfec❤

Oh no! Did your gauge match?
Yes. I think if I leave off the last two increases it will work better. It’s worth trying. So many loves the Kango hats. 👍🏾
Mine was too big too. My fault I didn't use gauge. But using a 5.25 hook and #4 yarn. Way too big and my husband has a large head lol
I used a 5.5 hook and the hat is way to small and I did gauge test 3 times to make sure .. idk what to do instead of starting over mabye I can add a few rows to it to make sure the back part of the hat truly covers atleast enough of the back of my head to stay on my head. and I have a big head
@hearthookhome I dint use the gauge. But I am in the same situation. Almost 30" of circunference. I dont know how to adjust.
I'm still at the beginning,,I'm striking
i really want to make this hat but im a beginner so is it possible to make this using just sc or hdc and not the spike stitches?
As long as your gauge matches, that should be fine!
Can I ask what yarn is this? 4 ply or 8 ply?
Hi! It is a worsted weight yarn, which I believe is a 10-12 ply yarn

Can I ask what type of cardboard that is. Obviously can't be paper
I used paper plates, but you can use regular cardboard, some sheets of heavy cardstock, or a milk jug.
I think it would be better to use something that is washable. No-one wants a stinky hat!
15:21 Holy jump-cut Batman! SC SC Spike SC and WOW back where we started? Confusing presentation.
☺☺☺☺
Where is the pattern ??
The pattern is linked in the details 😊
