I hit it all too. I had the exacta, daily double, trifecta, pick 3, superfecta, high five, the pick six, pick 20 and the exactor. Damn what a day for us all.😜😝😝bahahahaha. Muhahahaha. Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
For all those of you complaining about the call, how about you try calling it. He misspoke, so what? He meant to say Cupid, but accidentally said Creator because his attention had turned to the move Creator was making. If you think it's so easy, then you try calling a live race knowing thousands of people are listening in. Just like the Wood last week. Stop blaming Larry for it. All he could see was a blue cap. The silks were covered in mud, and his head was being blocked by Outwork. If you had to guess which of the two blue hat horses were there? Would you really think it was the 81-1 maiden. Being a track announcer is one of the toughest jobs in racing. My hats off to Pete for a tremendous call. He's one of my favorite track announcers because he brings excitement to every race, from a Maiden Claiming to a Grade 1. Keep doing what you're doing Pete!! :)
+Horse Racing Fan 99 Yes, well said. Just like you can't blame Tom Durkin for his Derby call in 09. looking through the binoculars, focusing on the horses up front doing battle as they drift away from the rail, never noticing Mine that Bird till he probably pulled the binoculars away as they got closer to him down the stretch. Definitely not easy especially in the larger fields, trying to at least give every horse a call once. Never mind the fact they are calling 10-15 races on the card on these big days.
"Creator will not get the job done," he said. Too bad he got that wrong because, otherwise, this was one of the best race calls I have heard in my lifetime. The man, whoever he is, is superb at his craft.
+Robert Bonter -- He clearly meant the big 4-5 favorite Cupid would not get the job done today. Perhaps he had Creator in his head because he saw him gaining quickest of all.
+TC20131020 I just want to say how tremendous it was to read this. 1000% makes me feel human. Obviously I wished it would have never happened...but appreciate that someone understood HOW it happened. Take care!
I appreciate the support and kind words very much. And obviously agree with you. In fact, we tried to dub it over here at Oaklawn and I heard the call spliced together and it would have been a great call without that damn miscue. Noting that, we couldn't get it dubbed over without it obviously sounding dubbed over. Take care!
+Pete Aiello I felt u corrected yourself right away. Cupid instead of Creator. 1:50 flat the race was with a 1 second miscue. No big deal. Love how u call call the stretch run w. excitement in your voice. That is how races should be called!
This year's Kentucky Derby will be a great one because it will be hard to predict the trip the closers will endure to get to the lead horses at the stretch. Nyquist will have a wall of horses bucketing forward right behind him as they get near the finish.
This year? Unlike the last several years which had pick up the pieces types like COMMANDING CURVE boasts several strong closers with the long strides/big stretch kicks that look very dangerous the first Saturday in May
+Sally Eastman -- There are a bunch of solid late closers headed to the KD, including my fav, Mo Tom, who had lots of traffic problems in the Louisiana derby, having to check hard at least once.
+Sally Eastman that is a good point. But I think nyquist is a clear winner. With my second bet being on lani. Because he is the son of tapit.and won at a 1 3/16 mile a distance that no other derby contender has ran at.
Creator's dam is Peruvian mare Morena who was owned by famous soccer player Claudio Pizarro. All Peruvian race horse fans will be rooting for Creator on May 7th.
Well timed ride by Santana! Very Happy as SUDDENBREAKING NEWS also flying for 2nd. Both get the points. Both horses the female family has tons of stamina. The distance will not be an issue. Trip will. CREATOR getting good at the right time!
TVG needs to stop putting the Featuring ______ on their races. I missed the race and avoided all social media and everything so I could watch it without knowing what happened just to have the winner's name pasted on the video of the race. Put in it in the description of you have to, but can you please leave it off the title!?
+Horse Racing Fan 99 I totally agree. But sadly these people probably have agendas, like getting views, which will probably more numerous later on if Creator turns out to be something special in the bigger races, if they put his name in the title. Sadly the uploader probably does not give a crap about spoiling, but I do feel your pain.
Garcia was pumping at the 1/4 pole. U knew he was in trouble. I am very happy. Loved both CREATOR & SUDDENBREAKINGNEWS. But watching the race? Kudos to Ricardo Santana saving ground until the stretch? But again Luis Quinonez came 7 wide down the lane w. SUDDEN BREAKING NEWS
The track announcer apparently screwed up in the call down the stretch. He said, after 4-5 favorite Cupid began fading in the stretch, that CREATOR would not get the job done today. He probably got distracted noticing Creator rushing up from between horses (and confused their names).
+Michael Dominici At least he wasn't yelling ADVENTIST the whole stretch! Lol. Hey look, I am poking fun at it? He quickly corrected himself otherwise the call was very good. This was nothing compared to Collmus w. The Wood Memorial last saturday!
But this Tapit is Well Bred on the dam side as well as Lani. Unlike Mohaymen whose dam sire family I was less than thrilled with. Now when I look at who he beat in his career (FLEXIBILITY, GREENPOINTCRUSADER& ZULU) I definitely think he is off the board May 7th.
Give me a Ky. Derby exacta of Lani and Danzing Candy, Lani on top for twice as many tickets. Lani showed TWO bursts of speed, winning in Dubai, one to join the field he trailed by daylight, and two to put the race away. Danzing Candy set the pace in his prep race on an off track - a harbinger of top form and condition. Ordinarily I don't like off the pace winners coming up to the Derby, where they are routinely blocked in traffic, while picking up tired horses in the stretch who flashed better fractions all the way around, HOWEVER, Lani is something special, I do believe.
+Doug Trapp That time of 1:58:42 by Lani for 1 3/16 worries me. Especially since California Chrome came home at 1 1/4 in 2:01:92. I think if Lani had run 1 1/4 it would have been anywhere from 2;05-2:07. That is incredibly slow
+Ron Powell -- Same (hopefully) for Mo Tom. MT had a very rough trip last out in the Louisiana Derby where he was expected to close strongly. I think he checked hard twice.
I really don't think any of these horses have a chance in the Derby. To put it in perspective, American Pharoah would have been 2 lengths in front of the early speed in this race, and beat Creator by about 10 lengths. Although Creator and Suddenbreakingnews had very good closing fractions, their early pace was totally pathetic, and with those combined, that would put them both probably between 5th -10th place in the Derby. If either of these finish ITM, they need to have the race of their lifetimes...and frankly these horses all looked tired at the finish line. Good luck.
hindi nakapagpahinga si Gettysburg from stall 12 post to the lead in first bend a short distance to outburst the strength of the horse ... jockey applied brake but to no avail for the persistent attack of another gray horse 10 entry ... the come from behind horses chances although its a mile race enough for CREATOR pass the contenders, sinigurado ang panalo BINAKBAKAN NG PALO SA KANAN para huwag bumuka @ed
To tell u the truth? It was a very minor thing and he got it right very quickly. I guess I was still thinking of the stretch call of The Wood last Saturday with the wrong horse being called the length of the stretch
+mac hamons -- He obviously meant the big 4-5 fav Cupid would not get the jog done today. He may have just then noticed Creator rushing up through the pack and got distracted.
sorry for being to critical, its only i had a big bet on creator, and for a couple of seconds i was brokenhearted.. but i been waiting on creator since he broke his maiden, where did he come from move...Welcome to arkansas did we welcome you affectionately?
yeap that was a pretty WRONG an Crazy thing to say between 1:34 an 1:37 ,,,,,CREATOR will not get the job done ,,,But that is a lot a lot of horses to keep a eye on an the last call he made he was dead last ,,,But when you think about it Steve Asmussen is the very best Trainer ,owner , there is I kindy think he had his mind on Whitmore ,,,I really think Creator could win the Derby I had my money on him here an I will have it on Creator at the Derby ,,
Obviously, not what I wanted to say. Creator was 10-1 so a call like that would have been outrageously obnoxious if said intentionally. As mentioned in earlier posts, I was to say CUPID will not get the job done but as I was crafting that, I saw Creator coming like a train behind him. Certainly not my best work and indeed quite embarrassing but NOT for the reason that may be perceived....
+Pete Aiello Don't worry about the gaffe, Pete, you call a race from an Andy Beyer trips handicapping viewpoint, citing the horses' position on the track, forward motion, if any, distance from the rail, etc. Everything you said was pertinent and germane as to how the race was unfolding. My all-time favorite race callers are Harry Henson, Trevor Denman, and Morris Toby, who called Atlantic City races, years ago, along with Fred Caposela. I have to put you in that select class, as one of the best race callers, ever. Your attention to detail is unsurpassed!
What a race! Hit the trifecta/exacta/win bets. I was jumping up and down when the 3, 4, and 8 were storming from behind. Unreal!!

"Creator will not get the job done," he said. Too bad he got that wrong because, otherwise, this was one of the best race calls I have heard in my lifetime. The man, whoever he is, is superb at his craft.
What's up with these race callers screwing up these big races? just like Larry collmus screwed up last weeks wood memorial
+Robert Bonter -- He clearly meant the big 4-5 favorite Cupid would not get the job done today. Perhaps he had Creator in his head because he saw him gaining quickest of all.

Cupid will not run in Derby, so Mo Tom is in.
+Killer Bees was
wow awesome, just what i was hoping to see from Creator! on to Kentucky!!
That 12 had a beautiful coat color - love the dark blue/black roans
Wow what a runner!! My bet is on him for the derby!!!
At 1:35 the announcer says "Creator will not get the job done". 18 seconds later he says "Creator wins the Arkansas Derby".
I, bet this Horse in the Ark. Felt strong He was gonna be the winner in the Belmont w/ that come from behind race.Well enuff said.
After the way Creator came flying at the end of the Rebel, this was the easiest race this year to predict.
+DoubleDogDare54 -- 4-5 was insanely short odds for Cupid.
TVG needs to stop putting the Featuring ______ on their races. +nicolas montes I apologize for having a job where I don't have time to stop and watch...
+Horse Racing Fan 99 Don't quit ur day jerb.
+Horse Racing Fan 99 I purposely shrink my screen and unfocus my eyes a little when clicking the link.
Bad race for Cupid, and no excuses either. :-\ 100 Points for Creator and well deserved.

This year we have a bunch of powerful closers in this Derby unlike the last several yesrs. CREATOR, SUDDEN BREAKING NEWS, MY MAN SAM & BRODY'S CAUSE.
+John Kaufmann years! Typo. lol
+John Kaufmann You forgot Exaggerator and Lani which is a horse I think many people have over looked. I still think Nyquist will take it down though.
+Strange Days Lani was a huge closer in the UAE. I wouldn't underestimate him.
The track announcer apparently screwed up in the call down the stretch. He said, after 4-5 favorite Cupid began fading in the stretch, that CREATOR would not get the job done today. He probably got distracted noticing Creator rushing up from between horses (and confused their names).
+TC20131020 Major gaffe. Terrible call.
+TC20131020 Too many grey horses in there for him!!!
+Michael Dominici At least he wasn't yelling ADVENTIST the whole stretch! Lol. Hey look, I am poking fun at it? He quickly corrected himself otherwise the call was very good. This was nothing compared to Collmus w. The Wood Memorial last saturday!
+Michael Dominici I've explained my thought process during this period in other comments. Feel free to take a look....frustrating indeed
+DatTNgo Wasn't it at all. I didn't have the horses IDed incorrectly, I just unfortunately misspoke.
as a whitmore myself...i'm proud of whitmore...keep it up buddy
Announcer messing up on another one million dollar race in consecutive weeks.
Just proves we're all capable of doing it. Certainly not the way I wanted it to go either
+Pete Aiello You've apologized enough. Shit Happens... You're excused AND forgiven.....
Tapit Trice is the NEW Creator!!!
CREATOR REPRESENTA A LA HIPICA PERUANA, VAMOS CREATOR A GANAR LA CARRERA DE LAS ROSAS !!!!
YESSSSSSSSS!
Ricardo Santana Jr.

Oh look, another Derby starter for Tapit. In other news, the sun rose yesterday. =P

How has LANI been taking to the surface at Churchill Downs?
I really liked Mubtahiij last year in both the Derby and the Belmont.. Last time I use an overseas horse lol
+Doug Trapp Give me a CREATOR/MY MAN SAM/SUDDENBREAKINGNEWS trifecta box! Lol
Creator or aony other, average contenders for a rational derby.
with horse racing it's only looks fast at certain angles
suddenbreakingnewill see them coming back to him at Churchill
+Ron Powell -- Same (hopefully) for Mo Tom. MT had a very rough trip last out in the Louisiana Derby where he was expected to close strongly. I think he checked hard twice.
¿Cómo rayos ganó si iba de último?
El pinche 3 me chingo la trifecta
Cupid is out of Derby, so Mo Tom is in.
Gun Runner in the Derby
Commentator: "Creator will not get the job done". up the home stretch. What a plonker.
Creator can win the derby in my opinion if he isn't to far behind because if he is to far behind he will never catch up to Nyquist
+All American Chutzpah Creator did race as a two year old?!?!?! His first race as a 3 year old was on the 27th just to let you know.
creator will not get it done? lmao
+BeasTxMode2000 yeah really what the heck is he watching???
Why the hell did he say Creator will Not get the job done when he was obviously flying toward the lead? Embarrassing call of that race.
Creator won't do it lol my favorite call ever!!!!!!
not sure if hes gonna get away with that in the derby, longshot chance though, maybe third.
He's not Secretariat, but until the Belmont, that was Secretariat's running style. He was dead last in the Derby and came forward. It is possible..
I really don't think any of these horses have a chance in the Derby. everyone gets thst way....look at battaglia....
john kaufman i told u i like suddrn and creator car brojr down on way to track...smh.....
Wow suddenbreakingnews
+mmend m 4th at best in derby
Vic is MUCH better
bad call pete creator will not get it done,, and creator is flying
To tell u the truth? It was a very minor thing and he got it right very quickly. I guess I was still thinking of the stretch call of The Wood last Saturday with the wrong horse being called the length of the stretch
+mac hamons -- He obviously meant the big 4-5 fav Cupid would not get the jog done today. He may have just then noticed Creator rushing up through the pack and got distracted.
yes that makes sense that way..fav not getting it done, I guess everyone seen that but me lol
+mac hamons It was certainly not the way I wanted to end the meet! And 100% not my best work.
sorry for being to critical, its only i had a big bet on creator, and for a couple of seconds i was brokenhearted.. but i been waiting on creator since he broke his maiden, where did he come from move...Welcome to arkansas did we welcome you affectionately?

+Timmy Ritchey I thought I heard wrong at first; had to go back and listen again lol
I think the announcer meant to say "cupid" wont get the job done instead of creator because cupid was the 3/5 betting favourite
What a bad , bad call.......... that announcer totally embarassed. creator will not get there.... lmao
At least he is not Larry Collmus calling The Wood! Lol
Obviously, not what I wanted to say. Creator was 10-1 so a call like that would have been outrageously obnoxious if said intentionally.
