That's actually not true... Go live in Edinburgh, it's simply one of the best places on Earth. Just don't be a fool like me and take it for granted. I probably didn't deserve to be there.
I share your experience and now live on a scottish island.Pretty but poor shops ,high cost of living and dependent on ferry service to visit mainland.
unfortunately age and health mean i am stuck here. Yet many people love it,
guess i'm a city person.
Wow😍😍😍 Edinburgh is so beautiful and sounds so perfect.
It's nice to hear so many positive reviews about a city.
Thank you for the video.
My ancestors were Scottish and I can relate to her description of the Scottish people. There are similar behaviors in the rural southeastern United States. Many Scottish immigrants settled there and still help others like she described. I wish I had spent a year in Scotland when I was younger and healthier. I’m glad these young ladies are there and enjoying life.

Thank you for showing my city in such a great light.
For me it is also really important to live in a place where the people are nice..
Yess me too 😀

i’ve been thinking about moving to scotland from england when i’m old enough for ages and everything said in this video strengthened that it just sounds so much nicer
Looking at cities to study in for my masters and after this vid I'm lowkey sold...
same sis 😭😂..
Same
بالتوفيق لك 🌷❤️
In terms of the expenses u could always get a place just out side Edinburgh like west Lothian linlithgow in particular is gorgeous
Maryhill in Glasgow is even better.
Not only out of Edinburgh. There are a lot of places cheaper only 5 minutes from the old town.
My grandma is thinking of going back home to Scotland since her husband has passed and I think I’m going to go with her. Looks like the type of place I’ve been looking to settle and live in.
I emigrated to Edinburgh from usa in 1987 and my very first impressions of living in a magical land have not faded. Thanks for reminding me of what I love about this city. Ironically I now live mostly in Prague but cannot bear to lose my connection to Edinburgh; until COVID I would visit 4-6 times a year and I maintain my flat. (On calton hill, which I utterly agree is one of Edinburgh’s enchanting locations !)
PS to Katerina- having moved the opposite direction I totally agree with your comments! As much as I love prague and Czechs, I miss Scotland - have been victim of attempted robbery 3 times in Prague, and find the people while friendly to be more negative.
I understand exactly what you mean I have been living in Central Europe going on three years now. I moved from the US. I visited Edinburgh and the highlands and knew "this was it" my hope is to retire there if at all possible I've got one more year to go. Merry Christmas! and stay safe!
@@mariapierce2707 this is beautiful , hearing so many nice comments about the Scots And Scotland is so cool and welcome as is our welcome to you xxx
@@tedbhoy1 Happy New Year!😊
@@tedbhoy1 please don't think me forward but as the time gets closer and covid is controlled, it would relieve my mind if I had someone "on the ground" to give me guidance. If I sent you my email would this be okay? I assure you I am a kind person with no ill intention. Thank you for extending a welcome!
@@mariapierce2707 how do you manage living there with the language barrier? I wanted to move from the U.K. to Austria but the fact I don’t speak German put me off.
My 12 yo has her heart set on moving to Scotland after graduation, but we are from the US and have never been out of the country. I am trying to find valuable information from other's personal experiences to share with her. Thank you for the video
@10:21 sad but true, I moved from Glasgow to Nottingham
Randomly searching for Edinburgh got your video it's beautiful ❤️❤️
I'm an IMG studying PLAB to start my career in the UK . Scotland is the DREAM ❤
I'm moving to Edinburgh next month and I'm so excited!
😀 support have an safe trip, i heard Scot's are warm people's 😅🤗

Even in the height of Summer, I always found Edinburgh to be a very cold city. Coming from the English South coast, the difference was marked, especially in Winter. If you don't feel the cold, it might be OK...
Soft Southerers right enough.. don’t listen. Its not the Arctic.
Yes but in Southern England no matter how warm it is,,,it still feels cold to a stranger,
@@james6901 That's the thing. On the whole, Scottish people are more friendly than people from Southern England. On the other hand, the East coast of Scotland has lower temperatures than Southern England. But the South West corner of Scotland has both reasonable temperatures and friendly people. And as it happens I'm a whole lot more comfortable with the political climate in Scotland than I am with that of England. And just in case you wondered, I'm a supporter of Scottish Independence. That way I could move to Scotland and not have to endure Brexit Britain any more...

Just came to testify just how nice I found Scottish people. Several times when I asked for directions, people will actually walk me to the place I was looking for! Also, people helping me with my luggage at the airport/bus station etc. Sometimes during my early days when I opened a map to look for directions, someone will walk up to me and ask if I needed help. The nice, genuine actions are uncountable. I just loved my time there studying and I pray to visit beautiful Scotland again.
Nicely done. Well done.
I’ve been to Edinburgh and Leith .wayback in 1985 . Although I stayed only for very short period , about a week, and I agree both were beautiful places to stay based on my experience . People were very kind, polite and approachable. The weather is so cold though.
Wonderful blog..you captured very well.
I don't know what kind of camera you are using but the video is beautiful, everything is very clear and bright.
Really good video. I was born and raised in Edinburgh but now live in Surrey. Very nostalgic to see the sights again. Good to hear you and your friends take on living there 🙋♂️🏴
some fantastic footage... very nice video...thanks for sharing.
Nice vlog...........Edinburgh is an incredible city but yes expensive from a commercial and tourist perspective.
@@VASIGTravelingLifeinLondon what a load of fckn guff.
@@VASIGTravelingLifeinLondon You're talking some pish there, it's not cheaper than London at all, it is far more expensive for a tourist foreigner, the only place it's not as expensive for is Scots from the rest of Scotland.
@@AJ-PFbat Yes, it is not expensive, I live here. There are a lot of free things. All the meals in all the schools, all sanitary products for women, activities for children (my son goes to a weekly activity playing in the wood, he receives free water clothes), workers from the council that plays with children in the public parks and there is always a free meal and hot chocolate, the university, the bus is free for all children till 21 one years and the old people, you travel free too if you a looking for a job. The l life is pretty easier here. And the education is a Finish system in public schools, they went to the woods, all day playing, there are free swimming courses.
Breathtaking. Absolutely beautiful...that beach is to die for.
I love Stirling.
I have heard it was just as beautiful yes? I have one more year to work and then I hope to retire. Merry Christmas! stay safe!
Its an amazing little treasure
Moved to Edinburgh in July. Love the city and where I live, it can be very expensive to live here though. Nearby Dunfermline is far cheaper if you are counting the pennies.
What's the rent like in Edinburgh?
@@Nashlash Really steep to be honest. I stay in a small one bedroom flat and that's £650 a month rent. Across the Forth Road Bridge I had a three bedroom flat with private parking and garden for £550. Love Edinburgh but you need deep pockets.
Very good video with city analysis
This is the most helpful video I've found! Desperate to move here!
nice vlog and you approached it ,especially with people who live there asking great questions. thanks so much for making the effort, stay safe
Great video! 👍 very informative and Edinburgh and all of Scotland is just breathtaking 😍
Thank for video....20 years in Edinburgh and is still great:)
I loved this video! Your editing is beautiful. I’m from near Glasgow but my sister is a student in Edinburgh❤️🏴
Just got back from Edinburg and it is the most enchanting city I’ve ever visited.
Just come back from visiting Edinburgh. Went to see where our late dad came from. It's a beautiful city. Went to portobello beach and the sun was out. Which was great as the day before at the castle, it threw it down. Looks like the same hotel we stayed in. The cairn Hotel. Can't wait to go back another time
I lived in Edinburgh from 1978 to 1982 and really enjoyed the experience. I have lived in a few places since then and eventually ended up 30 or so miles from Edinburgh so I can still dip into its amenities. Great place especially when you are younger.
My favorite city in the world to spend summers. Haven’t gone since COVID came along, so eager to get back soon. People are friendly, it’s safe, and filled with conveniences. Not my favorite place when the festivals are on bc it’s harder to get around. So, for long-term living, I would choose to live just outside of the city.
Thanks for sharing.I first landed in Edinburgh ,1985.
What a lovely city❤️
I was in Еdinburg in spring and autumn. I liked the city and people. People were very friendly. I want again to go there ! Was in Glasgow and St.Adrews - gorgeous places !!!
Wow what a great vídeo with a useful information about scotland particularly Edinburgh and you have a shining smile!
Thank you so much for this video. I absolutely adore the way it was edited
Edinburgh is the best. I'm so blessed to live here, and just a 10 minute walk to Porty beach.
Beautiful place! I’d love to travel with you virtually! So, yes, Solo Anne, I liked, subscribed and will expect more videos like this in the future. Thank you.
وانا ايضا أحب أن اسافر معكم افتراضياً 🌷💖
This video was so relaxing and informative! I’m dreaming to visit Edinburgh next year, such a beautiful place!
Edinburgh is beautiful city I have lots of videos of the city
Just subscribed to your channel too, ah hail fae the toon 😜😂🏴💙
The castle is where i want to visit, the town is probably boring, full of drunkards
Would 100% recommend , perfect place for a student although probably more expensive than places like Glasgow and etc
I lived in Edinburgh before moving down to England and I loved it there...its very nice place to live alot of beautiful places to explore... and Edinburgh and Scotland In general will always be my home well definitely go back to Edinburgh even just for a break
It’s cold asf
Studied in Edinburgh for 4 years back in the 90s. Love it so much and now hoping to relocate and live there😍
Thank you for making this video!! I live in the U.S. and will one day move overseas!
Great Video Anica! I lived in Edinburgh for 1 year before to return to London, and you have shown the city very well, bravissima!
the thing i like most about Scotland is, the people, they realise the weather is so shite they challenge the people they meet to smile and be nice , out of spite , there could be blowing a hoolie but wee Mary will argue with big mag's it's the best storm we'v had fur a wee while .
I would LOVE to live in Edinburgh. I’m American though and I just know the process of moving across the ocean would be so expensive and painstaking 😩 but this is such a dream!
Fantastic city. FYI, you do pay for water, it's factored in to the monthly council tax.
But no one pays council tax get a grip mate it’s not charged through a meter in Scotland like it is in England you can use as much as u want and wee have the best water in the world
And FYI I have a 12 “ pen is
If you own a home, you pay council tax. And if you want a water meter you can have one installed and get a more accurate billing otherwise it's an estimated cost factored in to the council tax.
@@Csdrumworks18
The Scottish government kept Scottish Water as a public owned water supplier. Westminster privertised the water industry in England. The water rates are lower in Scotland.
@@martindornan1667 they may be lower indeed. I was only highlighting that it wasn't free. While it's something most people probably don't realise they pay for, but it is estimated and factored alongside council tax.
Sound quality? Lovely video, so things can only get better!
For me, Edinburgh was 'just' growing on me when I saw this - I've not done the 'fringe'; Scots are definitely good natured and Edinburgh IS walk friendly, for me, that's great!
I miss Edinburgh....I love the city😍😍
This was an amazing video btw, well done. I'm considering moving there from London to build a better life for myself.
You wont be profiled like you are in London mate..take a visit check it out,,good luck,
Every video I see regarding this topic is from the pov of a foreigner. I appreciate their viewpoint, but it makes me wonder why there aren't more videos on this topic from native inhabitants.
same with when the festival is on not even street musicians are scottish yet we have to deal with the city centre closed off or impossible to get to work.
I love your video Solo Ann! My ancestors used to live in Edinburgh, and I am a USA citizen, so its nice to learn about my ancestors country & city.
Born and bread in Nottingham. Have to say I'm fed up living here and have been contemplating heading north to not to look back
I love Edinburg but remember you can’t go close to the sea it is windy and cold even in summer except few days a yearv
I visiting Scotland been 6 parts of Scotland, some have accommodation within walking distance of there job, its high class food and drink and helps if your outgoing and have celtic connection or celtic relatives as its a different world
My little sister and I plan on moving there ,because we have ansetrial roots there
I love Scotland too
I was born and raised in Edinburgh and still live here in the Old Town. I like your story about the Taxi driver returning your phone. We like to make a fuss of people coming here and help them settle here. We are a city and a country of immigrants. People from all over the world are part of Scotland's story and of course our intention is to set a good example to our neighbours in the South :-) I hope you will try living here and experience the different 'parts' of the City. Remember that just a 30 minute bus journey will take you out of the city into rural countryside, which is beautiful for walks, castles, beaches and hills. Smashin'!
Less than 30 min. I love close to Cramond beach and the bus takes 15 min. to arrive at Princess Street.
Nice explanation, keep it up. Great job, keep doing it.
Took me by surprise when you said `no` to Edinburgh.
She didddd?😢
She's being realistic. Not as many job prospects to maintain the high rents.
I’ve seen Edinburgh on TikTok and now I’m obsessed
Wow, a very good ways of traveling & storytelling 👍🏼
Thank you for the video, I visited Edinburgh on my vacation and fell in love with it, I tried to pursue my masters in the University of Edinburgh, but unfortunately it is very expensive, other universities in the UK are much cheaper 😢
