How about you figure out that the oil is Alberta's before it is "Canada's oil". Alberta will work with the US for Alberta's benefit. For years they have been paying equalization payments to the rest of the country. Now it is their turn to benefit from their natural resources. Trump only asked that Canada not be a haven for people that want to harm both countries. To stop being a puppet nation for china. But we have a clown for a leader who loves china right down to his socks. Our country has fallen out of good standing with other allies such as 5 EYES. Canada should say that we're no longer in business with the US (long run). We can sell our potash, uranium, steel, aluminum, wood, water, electricity, oil, gas to other markets, and even enemies of the US, because...we have to earn. And they don't need anything we have right?
We can grow most of our own food, import certain crops (fruits we can't grow, and out of season veg etc) from Mexico. Consumable goods from the east and up and coming markets in Africa. We can align with Europe on geopolitics. We don't need the US at all. They don't need us. Good riddance.

For those blaming Trump you should be blaming Trudeau. He's ultimately the one that needs to be held accountable, his taxes have stifled businesses from hiring and being able to pay their employees more. Instead he has flooded the country with unqualified cheap labour that block young Canadians from filling these low skill jobs, many of those being US anyway. What he could have done instead is lowered taxes on Canadian owned businesses. Given incentives to those in the O&G, mining and production plus the tech sector, all of which would attract higher skilled talent into the country not only growing our economy and making Canada a place where people can thrive and want to live but also so we could actually produce our own goods and services and thus survive economic hurdles like this. Liberals don't understand this but it's something called accountability. We're trading partners yes, but countries have borders and their own legislation for a reason, if we want to play by our own set of rules we have to be prepared and accountable for whatever happens.
