I hope so ..... but I will predict THAT won't happen. Our politicians have sold us all out a long time ago.
If they cared about Canadians they would start by REINSTATION the Bank of Canada to its pre 1973 status.
Then end PRIVATE Banks and bring our banking back under control of Canada for the benefit of Canadians.
      Just my humble opinion. 🤪

One of the less-circulated parts of Trudeau’s speech was actually my favourite, where he said that the federal and provincial governments will also be working to make trade within the country easier and cheaper.
Often the Canadian option isn’t as accessible as buying from the states, and that needs to change! There should be fewer trade barriers WITHIN Canada’s borders than between us and states, period.

What Canada needs to do, add an additional 25% export fee on our exports of oil and electricity. They want to tax themselves, fine, but lets help them by adding even more costs to their woes. The revenue gained from that 25% export fee should be used to make oil pipeline to our east and west coast and shipping ports so we can easily trade with other countries around the world. We also need to build more of our own refineries. It makes no sense to ship our oil to the U.S, have them refine it and charge us 10x more than what they paid. It is time for Canada to become a major economic world player. We rely too much on exports to the U.S. They have proven to be unreliable trading partners for too long now. We don't need the U.S. Enough is enough, let the U.S rot for all I care.

@@mudkickerfiftyone3430 What, you think you can just build a bunch of new plants that produce all the parts shipped from Canada? FYI, Canada didnt take any jobs from the U.S. Our economies have been interconnected for many decades now, since WW2. You would need to build the chemical plants to supply that plastic plants that supply the parts to the plants that build the parts that goes into the cars. It's not like there is a switch you can turn on or off. If the U.S had those plants, you would be making your own parts. Contracts come and go in manufacturing. Companies adapt and find other business trading partners. Those companies that build auto parts in Canada and shipped to the U.S can still make other parts for other companies. For decades now, Canada and the U.S have had protectionist policies against foreign cars. We dont build cars from China, and we put very high tariffs on their cars. People in Canada and the U.S dont own cars from China, because we have been protecting the Canadian/American car industry. If push comes to shove, Canada can welcome China to build and sell cars and truck in Canada, without tariffs. Just think what would happen to your cities if Canada stopped buy cars and trucks made in the U.S? The door swings both ways and Canada has way more options.

@zzzubmno2755 Yes, it works both ways for the US and Canada. Canada is free to cut ties with America and embrace China. I'm sure it will be an excellent partnership. I'm not a fan of the tariffs, I'm not rich, but why does the Canadian government feel so entitled as to not pay the recommended 2% for defense? Obviously, the northern border is almost impossible to protect, but maybe if the Canadian government would at least show some effort and not just plan and promise border protection for the future, send some troops or something to the border, Trump likes a show and some form of action, not just words. In the end, we all suffer except for the politicians and the rich. If avocados are 5k, a piece rich people have 5k guacamole, and we have none.

I think all of the countries including the US has depended too much on other countries for very important things. This is a good time to make it happen. Manitoba should make their own liquor. That’s not something you need from another country. The US will find away to make that 80 million somewhere else. We don’t refine our crude here in Canada or manufacture much - too costly . We opened our doors to American corps and Cheap goods from China . Hard to change on a whim unless we have investors and at this low gdp . High taxes, tariffs and carbon tax. Why invest here at all ! The big corps will leave . Careful what you wish for. All we needed is secure our borders and have a plan to contribute to Army not WEF and UN .
The US needs energy like hydro, gas and nuclear for AI! They may not need lumber but they need steel , nickel and lithium we have it up North . We could have worked together to solve this with those sane minded experts skilled in negotiating trade deals .

@@Mary-d7h7qcommonsense yup the easy road is the road to American slavery. I do agree with much that you say. The Japanese and Germans came begging for our energy. They will fund LNG plants and refineries with the promise of long-term contracts of discounted reliable energy. Twenty year contracts guaranteeing certain volumes will go a long way and we will have the infrastructure to sell to them, the USA and others. Building Candu reactors and supplementing the grid is something else we can do.
