  • Laura Boswell Printmaker designing, cutting and printing one of her reduction linocut prints. This one is entitled 'Divided Cliffs, St Abbs Head', a view of the cliffs to the east of Edinburgh. The film documents the various techniques which Laura has developed into her unmistakable style. This video is not intended as a guide to reduction linocut, it is an expression of the process, of time passing, of the repetition and of the skills that go into a work like this.

    WOW!! The amount of work and effort going into this print is amazing. The final results prove my point. Well done Laura and great camera work by your husband Ben. Well done to you Sir!

    Laura.... I haven’t even finished watching this but need to say a massive thank you for posting such a well made, calming and inspirational video. I have had a smile on my face since it started.

    I enjoy to watch you at your inspiering work. some parts of the video, the plured ones, I don´t like bc the video is just longer without a story - for me.
    thanks for showing your work, it is so much to learn of. as an absolut beginner I see how far you can go with linocut, which is said it is for children to play around with printing. you show how great art can be done.
    maybe you can do a thanks button.I am sure there are more people outside they can´t avoid your art, but would spend some money for your work and your funding.

    Wonderful video Laura, it was so interesting watching the whole process, l loved watching you use your different tools and l also picked up a lot of tips regarding mixing colours, rolling them onto the lino and so many more. This video was a joy to watch, l loved seeing your cat popping in to see you every now and again, he has beautiful colouring.
    I'm following all your videos they are a great help!
    Thank you so much.

    Великолепно! Благодарю, что поделились частью вашего творчества и образа жизни. На днях тоже попробую себя в линогравюре. Ваш способ очень честный - нет возможности допечатать оттиски, мне нравится это. Нельзя войти в одну воду дважды.

    Inspirational! You must have gone back to original drawing and carbon paper to get the lines for subsequent “layers”?

    Laura, I enjoyed your video and learned a lot from it. I have not done a reduction lino print but will certainly try it. I love the softness you get using the layers of transparent colors. The extender, is it a print making type product or an acrylic one? Thank you.

    You have immense patience and insight. Please tell us what is the semi-opaque compound on the inking table at 10:05 or thereabouts? Does it make the ink thinner or more transparent/translucent? What is it called?

      That would be extender - I’ve made a couple of films about using extender and other additives on here if you want to know more

  • @colleenvarlowmusic1463
    @colleenvarlowmusic1463 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow a lot of thought and hard work went into that. Can i ask with the ink, why do you test it on the paper?

    • @Nick-B78
      @Nick-B78 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anything like paint or ink will always ‘appear’ differently on the final medium than it looks in/on whatever you’re using to mix it so here she’s mixing it on glass and then testing it on what I assume is the same type of paper she’s printing onto to see what the colour will finally look like. Just my assumption anyway

    I’ve never used linoleum for printmaking
    I do wood cuts using shino or plywood and natural materials,--also do wood carving.
    It seems your Lino has a backing -but is not on a heavy wood block like I’ve seen. I have an etching press and understand needing furniture if the block is heavy. I think that why I’ve avoided Lino on those thick blocks.
    Would you share what kind of Lino fabric you’re using?

      Traditional artist lino - there are several helpful films about it on here

    You should have shown an image of each color run. Then explained that you do twenty of each. We never see the image 'grow' between runs.

      I highly recommend a wireless microphone. I use one for my martial arts instructional videos. Solves all the voice and ambient noise issues.
