Excellent demo and a lovely print!
Essdee also has rollers with black handles. It's a pro version. Softer roller. Haven't tried it out yet but it has a nice feel to it.

Thanks Laura for an excellent video for information and also the way it’s shot. I’m a full time artist and have had Lino prints tools and materials in my studio for a few years without ever using them. I’m now absorbing as much instruction as I can to finally get around to producing something. You definitely have me enthused!

Wonderful video to watch, thank you so much for your patient and thorough presentation. My background is in found object sculpture and I'm new to lino printmaking but must comment (very positively) on the process you demonstrated here. Although you understandably stressed not working wet-on-wet, please know that to a viewer this demo beautifully highlights your intuitive approach to both design and color mixing in a very fluid manner. I may be slightly biased as my practice is also mainly an intuitive one, but bravo anyway!

Thank you for your super nice video. Lukas water-soluble colors are known to me. Unfortunately, I only know extenders for oil-based colors. Which extender do you use?

A fabulous video. Since you’re not inking within carefully defined areas, is each print in an edition going to be very different? Obviously, you’re working quickly here for the video.
Thank you for your very informative and interesting videos! I'm new to lino and they're very helpful. Though seeing your work is quite daunting too. =) is it due to the extender or the brand of inks that they don't dry while you're working? I can only do a couple prints before I have to wash my palette and roller because the ink has dried up and left both with an orange peel surface soI can't just put more ink on top. Do you have any tips?
Dominique Sigg Cranfield inks make a drying retarder you can add to water based ink that works well - try it at about 4% to the ink

Lovely presentation Laura thank you. The title underneath your screen is A Reduction Linocut Using Economy Inks and Tools. Am I misunderstanding the jargon? Is it a reduction linocut. I thought those were continually cut away? Thanks.

Thanks for your very informative videos, so helpful for a new printer. You say that ideally the ink would be allowed to dry between layers, but you also like to incorporate the ink from previous layers into the ink you are using for the current layer. How long do you usually give the layers to dry? Do you do anything special to stop the old ink drying too much on the slab while you are waiting?
Hi drying times do vary quite a lot depending on the inks you use and the weather, how many layers you have printed etc. With the inks on this video I would ideally only print a couple of layers a day. If I am mixing left over ink from one layer into ink I'm using for another layer then I tip the old ink into a pot and cover it with plastic film. It'll keep several days this way.
You can also add driers to oil based inks to speed things up. Have a look at my resources section on my website at www.lauraboswell.co.uk for some hints and tips. You might also like to listen to the podcast I co-host with artist Peter Keegan. We have interviewed Michael Crane of Cranfield Colours and he is very helpful on teh subject
@@LauraBoswellPrintmaker Thank you for such a prompt and VERY helpful response. I have some of the Nerchau/Lukas colours left over from a previous attempt to start lino printing (life and family illness intervened), so knowing any left over ink from a session can be stored in that way is useful. Unfortunately, I don't have any extender yet. Would the Cranfield water-based relief ink extender (NOT the SafeWash) be likely to work with them, as I have only found the Graphic Chemicals relief ink extender online in 485g tins?
jenny k Cranfield an extender will work fine. I’m a fan of Graphic Chemical but they’re hard to find. Cranfield also do a good drying retarder, used at about 5% it’s good for keeping wb ink open when it’s hot/dry conditions

This lady doesn't know enough about printing only being a secondary school art teacher she isn't really an artist as every colour has a name which she should know even blacks have a name and yellows have thousands have names now she has created that one image she needs another 100,000 all the same and the customer wants them now could she do 2 the same? Probably not that's where commercial printers need to be involved she is only making one illustration she may as well have used a paintbrush oils and an eazil.
Wow, what a mean spirited unnecessary comment. Obviously, her videos are appreciated by many.
Thank you - but it did make me laugh - secondary school teacher is way above my qualifications to teach 😀
