I’m trying to do the opposite and save/invest 75% while spending 25%. I set a very aggressive plan for the year because last year I pulled a lot of my money to pay the bulk of my wife’s student loan debt. It certainly would have been nice to have my current mindset a decade ago.

This guy is wrong to say that how much money someone saves for retirement; is determined only by what they do with their money. What matters is how much money someone makes and what their base salary is; plus it matters what they do with their money. A person with a low base income will never save much regardless of how frugal and dsciplined they are. So to be wealthy and be able to retire young requires a good base salary and a good savings plan. This guy lays out great ideas as to how to save for retirement

Most people are happy if they manage to pay their rent and utilities and doesnt have any extra money to spent on investment at all.
I wouldn’t say most people are “happy” with that. Most people may accept that reality ,but most people aren’t happy with their financial situation in general. So instead of posting something negative like that , explain how we can be more financially efficient and educated.
I know you’re Punjab brother but I would love to see you add giving to your 75-15-10 method. Currently my take looks something like 65-15-10-10 spending, investing, giving, saving. I give 10% or more a month to my local church

The fund with the lowest expense ratio with my 401k is a vanguard total us stock index with .79% expense ratio. More than 26 times as much as if I owned the ETF with the exact same asset mix through vanguard. That's on top of a .1% of AUM monthly asset management fee and a flat quarterly administration fee. My 401k company is ripping us off with fees but I'm pretty much trapped unless I'm willing to leave my company.
How can you switch, if your 401k is funded via your paycheck, And has an employee match feature?
