These were advanced in their day. I caught one in 2013 after many years not riding any and was surprised to find it was quieter and smoother than the Waratahs I had become accustomed to.
Although they were very outdated by the time they were retired, you’re absolutely right about how noisy it was. The Waratahs have very loud motors whereas the S sets barely had audible motors.
Thanks for the diversion to Lavender Bay siding. One thing about S set and possibly K set you can video through end carriage windows which can't be cone from Tangara onwards, boo hoo.
On k sets you can’t for the most of them I believe there is a few that you can though not quite sure But I’m 90% sure on k sets you can’t open and close the windows

Oh never mind you can I thought you were talking about the windows on the bottom decks the normal decks and the top decks
