Mayu is just incredible. I prefer listening to her singing rather than screaming just because her voice is that damn good. As you mentioned, Saki and Hazuki work so well together.

This song is a big swing at the western markets. I know we would all love an extended US tour, but Tamu's children are both around 0-1.5 year olds. That makes for some very special logistic issues. That puts a twist on Baby Metal.

In only a little over 2 years, this band has accomplished so much, with the duel guitar attack, a ruthless rhythm section that rival's much older band's, and of course the complete uniqueness of Mayu's vocals have propelled this band into the forefront of heavy music today, we won't be waiting 10 years before we see them in larger venues, it will come quickly for these gal's, maybe even by 2023.

Nemophila is projected to achieve its true potential, topping most of other Japanese bands in a very short time. In addition to their skills in playing instrument and compose brilliant songs, each of the member also has such a beautiful and humble personality. Combination of all those will bring the band to the new height internationally. Nemophila really remind me how much I love heavy metal and trash metal music in the 80s-mid90s, as if I just met my 'old flame' that I left in the 90s without a proper closure.

Thank you for reacting to Nemophila's new song immediately. Great songs and playing techniques as usual! But something is missing ⁉︎ What is it?🤔 hook? (Is it because I listened to Band-Maid too much?😅) Still i like this song!🤘

Nemophila is second to Band-Maid for me. I was worried(?) that this song wouldn't be as good as their album, but wow! I was pleasantly surprised. Great riff, Mayu's vocals are so strong, great solos. It is your (a)typical banging rock song. These ladies are awesome and on my list to see them live one day. I agree with you on the Revive Disc of Nemophila - I like that a lot. I'm not a big 'Cookie Monster' scream fan. {A term my son's teacher used to describe that type of music my son liked. Morning Gary! It’s a simplistic comparison to be sure, obviously both can play anything they want. It’s just that I’ve noticed a trend where , in NEMOPHILA, Hazuki usually solos first with something bendy, hammered and tapped versus Saki’s straight up shred fest. In the end, they always blaze away in unison. With those 2, it’s always a Masterclass in Guitar Artistry.😄💪🏻🤘🏻

Its a very Nemophila style song which I've heard Mayu say is important to them when she described REVIVE. I guess she wants the band to stamp their own identity early on with new Japanese metal and a variety of styles all mixed together with positive lyrics.

But I call it "Tell Me Why", which is a predominate lyric in the song. The music has a 70's jazzy, Steely Dan vibe. I swear it has become an earworm that has stuck with me for a week.

Oh wow, not that I haven't seen this video before, as I saw it when it first came out on their channel, but as I was listening to this with you and drinking a hot tea, I got chills when the Hasuki/Saki solo(s) came up. I didn't think I'd like this song as much as I do. Maybe a bit too much scream on the initial listen, but after a couple times it doesn't even register over what the rest of the band is doing and the clean vocals shining through.
Her accent is quite thick though. With a good 90% of this song in English, unless you've got the lyrics in front of you, you might not catch it all. I think she does great with the language switching, especially being a native Japanese speaker. English is really a mess of a language. lol The Japanese language isn't all roses either though. There are Four writing systems/alphabets they use... WTF

The song is slowly growing on me but will never be my Nemophila favorite. I'm afraid they start to use a "formula" , and so soon in their career it worries me a bit. But I enjoy the song anyway, and Saki's use of the kill switch in the beginning of her solo is one of the best use of this trick I've heard in a long time!

    • @nanakakitano9724
      @nanakakitano9724 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, I find this very "core" style fairly uninteresting. Chuggy main riff, screamed verse, clean chorus, repeat * 2, bit of a breakdown, trade 4 or 8 bar solos with a little unison section at the end, low dynamic version of chorus, high dynamic version of chorus, riff to end. It's all great don't get me wrong but I like a bit of song-writing variety. It's good for sure but not something that's going to get me coming back over and over. It's a bit too much like what I consider to be by far their least interesting song which is Dissension. I LOVE Raitei though and I thought Revive was good as well even if following "the formula" quite closely.

@@RyanMear , they play well all the time. That is never an issue for me, but there was something off and I don't know why.
To be real about it, just because you like a band that doesn't mean you have to like all of their material.

Just can't get into the screaming. I like a lot of their rock covers but the screaming thrash doesn't do it for me.

I dunno, sounds kind of bland, like they were following the formula for Dissension and came up with Dissension Lite. Mayu's voice is still the outstanding element, as it is for all their songs. The guitar pieces for their songs are starting to sound the same, they repeat too many runs across multiple songs. Not nearly as dynamic as their other songs. It will anger the True Believers, but this song is just kind of bland. It's not bad, and if it was some other group it would be a big deal, but this group has too many songs that are better in their catalog for this song to be significant in any way. I'm getting the feeling that they are starting to feel some "creativity fatigue." All they've done, practically since their formation, is studio sessions, write, and record for two years, outside of a handful of one off live performances. If their was ever a band that NEEDED to go on the road to stir up the creative juices it's this one.

I oviedo don't agree with your critique of the song, but I agree with them needing to play. Maybe they need to be able to write their OWN music completely?

@@RyanMear What percentage of their music is being written by songwriters, not the band? It's strange that THIS group, who have probably 20 years of experience between them, would rely on songwriters at all. This isn't BandMaid, who didn't have much group experience, let alone hard rock experience, between them when they started, and were all pretty green. Nemophila members were all rock musicians before they were in Nemophila; Saki alone has a decade of playing hard rock/metal.
But maybe this is related to something I've surmised for a while--that following the international break out of BabyMetal that there has been a deliberate effort by these Japanese acts to appeal to a western audience specifically. BandMaid, Lovebites, Nemophila, they all have made deliberate efforts to adopt a more "western" sound. And maybe that's why they have outside songwriters, to steer them into a more "western" sound.

@@FuglyStick I believe all of Nemophila's songs are written by a songwriting team. They come up with their own solos and they do work with the songwriters on tweaking and adjusting things, but the core of all the songs is provided to them. I remember reading an article where they talked about it a while ago but maybe they've changed up how they're doing things since?

@@nanakakitano9724 I was not aware that that was their standard practice, thanks for the info. I still think it's strange that a group with so much cumulative experience would rely on songwriters for their material - unless, as I speculated, they NEED those songwriters to write the material that is crafted to reach the demographic that they are trying to reach, ie, western audiences.
I wonder if it matters to the fans that fawn over the band as "Saviors of Music" that they are actually just being "focus grouped," like they are being sold a toaster or a pair of socks? I don't care, personally, that they use a songwriting team, but I'm also not one of the people claiming that the group is "revolutionary."
